Since it was updated, main shops restocking feels....awful.
I've been here a while, and I buy a fairly large amount from the shops. I've spent time learning what's worth buying, and I used to be able to snag something worth selling every time I scrolled through the shops.
Now the shops feel empty and going through them feels worthless. I know a point of the change was to make the shops feel more dynamic and reward people for checking the shops often, but I've found myself checking significantly less often. If they're effectively empty nine out of ten times, then I won't get excited on time number ten when I find a rare... I'll just find something off-site to do instead.
I don't want to seem like I'm just complaining about change; I know balancing these type of things is hard, which is why I'm voicing my concern about one of the ways I (used to) spend significant time here. I'm not sure what the specific solution to this is, but I'll be very disappointed if having the shops be effectively empty of anything worth buying is where we land in the long run.
any opinions?

I miss them restocking normally.
There's nothing of value in shops, items are in limited numbers and this makes people hoard and they drive up the prices. I was an avid restocker in a few shops (mostly food) and I checked back often. Now, I've given up checking because it's pointless. Now I restock my shops from vending and with quest items as items are more diverse.
I do not like the new changes.
I agree. There are too many changes being pushed through that really affect the overall experience. Some games have been changed. Restocking has changed. Quests have changed (Kumos.) The appearance has changed. When battling is changed, we'll probably see a lot of pushback. Basically, the entirety of Subeta is being changed and that's going to have some consequences. I don't think the main shops should be touched in a significant way. The restocking changes on another major pet site are the main reason I came to Subeta in the first place. I understand updating the coding, but it really feels like Subeta is changing entirely and I might not like what it becomes. I've already suspended my gold account subscription.

yeah. I won't say I'm angry about the changes. Just sad. I hate to see the site making changes I think are poor, but I'm hoping voicing those issues at least puts them on the radar of folks who can affect change.
I know that no one is trying to ruin the site or make the experience worse, but perhaps large changes need ample feedback from people who are being impacted by those changes. I restock a lot and these changes feel bad. They make me interact with the site less. They make me want to renew my GA less. I'm also just not quite sure why the changes were implemented. Was there feedback that the shops weren't serving their purpose appropriately?
I tried the kumos site for a bit. It was buggy, slow, and the quests were unbalanced. It also just....didn't feel like Subeta. I know that's probably not the most useful feedback in general, but it just sort of feels...childish? Cartoony? I'm not sure. I instantly forgive the bugs and lags. We're beta testing the thing, so that will be fixed. There's a ton of feedback being given about quest balance, so I assume that will be fixed as well. I don't really see much feedback about the feel of the place, though. I certainly don't want to come across as just kvetching about change in general or attacking the talented artists and programmers who have worked on these projects. That type of complaint is counter-productive; I know the people who work on this site love it at least as much as I do. I also absolutely understand that upgrades are needed from a coding/tech standpoint. I'd just like it not to feel like I'm on neop*ts.
Battle changes would/will be tough. I'm okay with changes there in theory, but with my tier 12 pet and billions sunk in battle gear I doubt the changes will benefit me lol. I assume they'll be to make things more accessible to casual folks. I'm...willing to give them the benefit of the doubt and wait to see what changes happen if/when they make them.

i was just about to find a thread to ask if shops restocking in such longer infervals and with almost no rare items is a bug or a new change. just procentually, the number of items i can get through shops versus user shops when doing quests is....sad. i guess there's a balance to be found to avoid people hoarding and selling items in insane amounts but...idk, i feel like there could be a different way to deal with this (if this was a problem) that doesnt negativly affect the experience of your regular user :/ idk, im just losing most of the joy i got from this site with these changes, its sad, its been such a constant of my life
I really hope the shop restocking is just a bug. Prices of everything not in the shops might eventually hugely inflate if it's an actual change. Pete/Carl quests are already a lot less enjoyable for me.
Since the shops are not reatocking nornally, I've been noticing that users will buy all the cheaper items, hostd 100+ of these items and drive up the prices. There's hardly any items left when they do that. I wish that trend could be stopped.
Have you noticed the same, or is it just me?
Hey folks! Making some changes here today. To be clear - this was mostly broken and not a rewrite or any decisions about how restocking should work. It's a combination of the clearing not being correct and the code that looks up item prices before stocking them being broken (and has been since the move, it's a piece of cache infrastructure I haven't been able to fix yet)
So: I'm gonna make some improvements from here (and the other threads) so please be specific about not how it's broken but what you would like to see happening, it really helps me a lot more.

before it broke, there used to be all kinds of item rarities. we had rare, super rare and when it broke, it just stocked all the common, really common and some mundane items. a lot of things I haven't seen restocked in 2 weeks
Thank you! That really does help a lot - like I said I think it's just broken so being able to find the places that it's broken, like knowing if it's stocking too many common items or too many rare items so they're becoming valueless really helps.
I'm going to see if I can get in a temporary fix for those more rare items - is this happening in all of the shops, or any one above the others in particular?

It's happening on both sites. Legacy hasn't had any rare or super rare items at all and Kumos will get rare or super rare, but will stock 50 of them. so if Kumos has a rare plushie, there's 50 in stock. I see users hoarding items by 100s. I liked when there was a rare and super rare cap on Kumos. Rare items was 5 and super rare was 1 per day
Hey everyone! Thank you for all the feedback in this thread, it was really helpful in tracking down what was going on and figuring out what to fix. A few updates:
What was broken
As I mentioned earlier, the restocking system had a couple of things wrong with it. the clearing logic was too aggressive (wiping items that should've stayed), and the price lookup cache was broken since the infrastructure move. This meant shops were restocking with mostly common items and feeling empty most of the time. That's been fixed.
What's changed — Legacy Site
What's changed — Kumos
Going forward
The restocking config is now editable from the admin panel, so we can tune these numbers without pushing code changes. If shops still feel too empty or too full, or the rarity balance isn't quite right, let us know and we can adjust quickly. And not just me, since it's not a code change!
I appreciate the patience while I sorted this out. Restocking has been one of those things that "mostly worked" for a long time but had some real problems under the hood and during the recent move that became a lot worse. It should feel a lot better now, please let me know if you're still seeing issues or any feedback you've got.

Thank you very much! It's working and I got some items that I haven't seen in a long time! I can now hang around the shops and RS lol
Spells Galore on Legacy still says it last restock over 20 minutes ago but I think it has restocked since it looks more filled. I'm also still getting the 5 second cool down despite the fact that I haven't bought much today, or the last few days.
Removed that cooldown, and that number should be more accurate going forward.

I'll keep an eye on the time but I can confirm that the cooldown works now!
so you can see those updates as well 🗒️

For a really long time, all the shops were clearing at the same time once a day. Maybe at 2am? I can't remember exactly though what time. Is that still going to happen to keep shops from getting overloaded with stuff?
I like all of these so far :) Would like to see the items the Kumos quest givers ask for every day (looking at you, Alexander) restock a heap more often but maybe it would be better just to switch up his asks instead of flooding the market with what should be cheap and common things. What is he doing with all those lamps and bookmarks anyway?
I don't like the progressive cooldown; I prefer a fixed cooldown. I have a system of counting between restocks, and now it increases and not at easily predictable times outside of 200 purchases without tracking purchase count. It can even exceed 5 seconds now, which is off-putting.
