If I have the kumos instructions andwant to change my pet into that. does my active pet have to be a kumos or can it be any type of pet?

Can be any type of pet; just make sure your active pet is the one you really want to change before letting Vanya transform the pet. ^^

Hate to threadjack, but for the nostalgic pets, they HAVE to be transformed, not like the steamworks pets that can be transformed OR created, right?

Correct. It works more like Galactic or Hydrus pets, except for these it can change the species as well as the color. :)
