This is intended as a compilation of items that count as rare for the Fishing Expert achievements. To my knowledge, such a list does not exist anywhere else, and I thought it would be helpful to have one so you don't have to check the achievement page every time you fish.

If you know of fishing prizes that count as rare that I haven't included here, please comment and let me know. I'm only listing ones that I have seen people say made the count on the achievement page go up! Alternatively, if I've listed something in error, let me know that as well.

I've also been trying to track the rare fish. These are all reported from a group I belong to. Sad to say I haven't fished up a rare fish yet.

What a great idea. When I was trying to get the achievement, I noticed that all rare items are attached to the same phrase "You were so close!". If you want to double-check your list, there are boards in the forum where people post what they got, often including the phrase. I already got the achievement and checked a while ago, so I don't remember all of them, but if anyone's curious and has lots of time, this would be an option. Edit: this does not seem to be true according to 's experience...

Do you think it would be possible to add Subetalodge notes on the rare fish, something along the lines of Counts as a "rare fish" towards Fishing Expert achievement? Might be helpful :)

- yep, that's why I've been tracking them. Wanted a bit more confirmation before I added the notes though :). I'll probably start adding them right after Morostide is finished.

[edit] Tentatively, nix the pink koi . Just got another and am still at 3/5. Could be that the counter isn't refreshing, but seems likelier I was just mistaken the first time around.

just gave me "You were so close!" but did not increase the achievement so I'm not sure it's tied to the phrase

Yes, some of the "You were so close!" fish that do not qualify for the achievement: (with plans to update this list as I continue to be unluckily lucky)

also doesn't count, despite being a "You were so close!" item. The phrase could be a necessary but not sufficient condition, though.

(Man, making this list is really driving home how many of these items I've gotten in the past and how none of those catches will count towards the achievement.)
