Quite similar to this post, but wider. Could you add a line in items' description, with: • for collection items, month and year of collection (ad es.: Peach Botanical Illustration - April 2022 Collection) • for seasonal items, years of release (ad es.: Acai Gummy Flowers - Morostide 2021: Trick or Treat Item) • for challenger loots, the challenger (ad es.: Panzer Crew Rations - (Three-Head) Panzer Hydra) • from quest shop items and festive shops' items, the shop and the year (ad es.: Lipstick and Lace - Masquerade 2014 - Libertine Lounge)

All these informations are on subetalodge, of course, but I think it will be useful to gather them in the item description :)

i just worry that would get so messy & unwieldy. it might make more sense to have that info in the item directory, just for the sake of having it officially accessible on subeta itself. (and in that case the rarity listed in the item directory should also include the name of the rarity... if you tell me something is r170 i don't automatically remember what that means.)

I agree that a lot of this info would really be useful on site, but I think rather than it being in the item hovers (which can already be quite lengthy if the item has a long description), 's suggestion of it being in the item directory would be easier to follow.

However, for items like Masqerade items that are still available to purchase from the lounge / menagerie, if the shop search link could take you direct to the actual year page rather than just the most recent year, that might lessen the need for the year of release to actually be listed :)

Agreed that this info would be helpful to have onsite. But, yeah, I think the extra info would get "lost."

Adding it to the item directory is an excellent idea, as is better options for shop search.

So I'm looking into this right now, because while I agreed on another thread about adding a bit at the end (like challenger unlocks: NAME or holiday year: YEAR), it can get crazy, especially on those already long descriptions.

My questions/thoughts right now ⭐ How often do you use the item directory? ⭐ Would the field be "Where to find" and in that space be the information ("New year shop: 2023" "January Monthly Collection 2017" etc)? If you have better suggestions for the field title, let me know. ⭐ Obviously making this new field in the item table would mean A LOT of items wouldn't have anything for the moment. Should that field not show if it was empty? Should it default to N/A and show? ⭐ Items store what shop they restock in (like they have itemID, use, etc in) so I can show that. That doesn't solve the year issue or if an item is from a collection or other year-based thing.

I want to ping the people who posted on the other thread for their opinions, too.

I use the item directory every time I see new items are released. My pets get read to, and not everything that looks like a book is, and not everything that is looks like it.

A where to find field would be great, especially for tracking down older items and when Quentin asks for them in quests. Being able to search by use, shop and year would be pretty amazing too. Books and food are repeatable collections, and books is one that players who battle will do in bulk. Being able to quickly wishlist every book in, say, Esther's shop for year 2019 saves a lot of guessing or having to double check for missed items through SubetaLodge.

Or.. just let me connect the database and run my own queries, I promise not to destroy it, swear to god, this is totally not a bad idea at all.

I use the item directory every holiday, and sometimes when new items are released.

I think showing where to find an item is a good idea, but it'd be a lot of work to add that to the item table. I use subetalodge when I'm not sure of the location of an item, or the year it's from.

You might just call it "Location", instead of "where to find". Simple, clean, to the point!

The way some people spell makes me wonder about their pronunciation. My CW shop, and my ping group

I use the item directory whenever there is a Subeta holiday event going on to see what new books, beanbags, and plushies are released that I need for achievement purposes.

I use the Item Directory quite a lot when I want to search via rarity or a new event / challenger that drops loot.

Second having it just be "Location" or "Located" instead of "Where to Find"

⭐ Items store what shop they restock in (like they have itemID, use, etc in) so I can show that.

So the issue I see repeated is often "What holiday year shop is it in", I never considered what regular shop something might be in because I don't restock for a living. I guess that would also go in a theoretical "Where to Find"/ "Location" section?

Should it default to N/A and show?

Maybe defaulting to TBA/TBD

I use the directory during holidays and to double check item type sometimes

I think where to find would work, but "stocks at" could be good as well, would it be possible to have the data of main shop stock location in the same field? That way you would only need to add one field to show both

If it doesn't stock anywhere, i think its better if the field just doesnt show up, would lessen any confusion of people wondering if the info is just missing

Yeah, with shops we have some on the backend that are holiday shops (New Years, Libertine Lounge, etc) along with restocking but it wouldn't solve the year issue for the holiday items. I'm pretty sure I can easily hide the shop field if an item doesn't have a shop (example floating treasure map pieces) because if an item doesn't have a shop it has a default of 0 (shops have IDs too!!).

I use Subetalodge, I don’t know if the directory has filters like the lodge does, so can’t really answer much tbh

I think if you can condition something to be printed based on item number range, that would solve the "year" feature. All you'd need to do is record what the first item created each year is, then if it's less than that, put the year number.

so like:

switch ITEMID: case less than 5417: 2010 case less than 11555: 2011 case less than 28030: 2012

(if it's SQL it'd be CASE when itemid < 5417 then "2010" when itemid < 11555 then "2011" when itemid < 28030 then "2012" //etc end as yeartext )

etc. (numbers made up, but should be findable for you using database queries probably? maybe for new years event items for each year?)

We track date, , so I can pull out the year. It's more a matter of outside of year shops (new years 2018 for example) when we're getting into the weeds for collections and other not holiday related things. :) We want to work smarter, not harder in a sense!

I wasn't in those threads but my responses would be:

a) I never use the Item Directory. I do sometimes use Subetalodge. b) I think that's a good source for where to find it. I also don't know if it needs to be in the hover, because when you shop search for something it shows up as "Libertine Lounge" or something, I just want to know which year so I can it. But if that's too hard to implement the hover is fine. c) Depends on if you want to add something eventually or not. I guess it could have new categories like "Game prize - Fishing game" or "TBA" with a link to what TBA means.

(edit: sorry for the extra ping!)

The reason we decided against adding it to the hovers is we don't want another query bogging the hover down. That's how the suggestion on the other thread came to be for just adding a line at the end of descriptions, which again. With some of the descriptions on items it'd be adding even more to a small box/area.

Sorry I didn't read the other posts too clearly. I just wanted to add my support to this being visible somewhere that's not the Item Directory.

Totally understand about the hover. Would adding it to the description be a manual task for you? I would rather it appear as like it's own subheading and not tacked onto the end of the description, just visually. Unsure if that's what it would look like.

or how about remove the "Official Price" query and replacing it with this one?

I use the directory to see when new items are being added. It's usually Holiday items, but I also look to see which other items are added as well (if done at the right time, I can see an incoming TS restock, but I often forget to look at certain times and keep getting caught off guard anyway).

I don't really use it to search for items, though, or to click on items to see their uses unless they're new items. I might as well just use Subetalodge for that, I think they also list the item's use. If the directory listed the item's release from clicking an item as well, again, that's another thing Subetalodge has covered.

I think most people have been asking for the shop search to list the specific tab as well as the shops items are found in, but I don't know how easy or hard that is to code. Listing the year in the item description could work a bit, what I do is that I find out the year on Subetalodge, then go to the tab and ctrl+f in the item's name to find it. Having it in the shop search or hover would mean I don't have to leave the site or browser tab for it.

As for collections, I'm not sure, since there's often items that have "TRANSFORMS BETWEEN" at the end so adding the month and year would make it even messier. But it would still be nice to find a way to not have to use Subetalodge to find out which collection an item came from as well.
