The site has handled the Keelhauliday rush well, and we're so happy to see you all!
One of the big draws this time of year is the Ocean Depths vending machine, since its rarity cap is different and it gives out items from Freyalise as part of its pool while the shop is open. (Something to keep in mind if you have those stockpiled wizard tokens. ^_~ )
But when you go to a page like the vending machine where it's modifying your inventory, it counts all of the items in your inventory to check against inventory limit. Which it does by looking at ALL inventory items in all accounts, figuring out which ones belong to you, and creating a count of that. If you add/remove any items, that cached token is removed, and it does the query again. It's intensive even during normal site traffic, but works overtime during holidays. As just mentioned Subeta's coding does has a caching system to manage the queries, but the more people online the faster the cache expires and the 504s start creeping in.
One of the ways we can reduce this load is by managing items in the inventories of people who haven't logged on for a while; their inventory items still get counted and it's a constant bottleneck we're going to keep running into especially during busier times of the year. So starting soon, if you have not logged on in six months, items in your inventory will be automatically moved to your vault.
Keith is going to add a message to the inventory page that will show up for anyone whose items got moved, but we also wanted to get the word out to people otherwise and have this in Announcements for future reference.
Thank you for reading! May the Omen Islands waters be warm for you (or cool, depending on your preferences) and don't forget to put ideas you really want to see for upcoming festivities in the Suggestions thread!

haha wow, I don't code or anything, but there's got to be a better way to do that somehow.
So should we all move stuff regularly into our vaults, and would that solve the problem too, besides touching inactives inventories? I generally don't let my inventory get too bad, but it has had times of having 500 items in it.

Huh, no wonder the site has been crawling at points.
Spoke too soon getting loads of 500 internal errors
Same here with 500 Internal Server Error nginx
Cant do anything anywhere without getting the error message
Another one just now while trying to go to my shop Gateway time-out Error code 504
Thank you for buying from my shops
What i sell goes towards minions
so thank you very much :)
3 minions to go[/b]
That's reasonable. The people don't lose anything if they come back, they just might have to move their lizard minion trap and spray back to their inventory.
This sounds like a good idea. Also I did not know stuff like that checked every item in everyone's inventory like that o.o Gives me more of a reason to keep my inventory clear as often as possible c:
As someone who needs a super clean inventory at all times, I like this idea haha!
Yeah, there are ways to do it and Keith is working on streamlining, but Subeta has eighteen years' worth of various processes and features that in some cases need to be completely rewritten for something new, or need to maintain continuity of experience or functionality which makes changes tricky. Some automated tools like this should help in the meantime, though!
That would help, if you can get to it! We just do understand sometimes it's not practical for people to sort often or get distracted by life before they can get to it, so hope that this will be a good compromise. My personal system uses the shop filtering a lot: I put everything into one shop and then use the rarity sort at the top and options at the bottom to move to my non-rare shop, or gallery, or vault, or back to inventory as needed from there..

I do pretty much thr same thing as Galaxia! I have a shop I just call "Storage" and it's literally an inventory dump. I put everything in there and go through it later. I don't sell things from there so if there's stuff in there I know I need to go through it.
Every item in everyone's inventory?(??) That's a lot of everything! :O
Thank you for keeping us in the loop. This explains the lag and time out errors I've been getting.
Galaxia thank you for that shop sorting idea! I hope this new policy helps and I look forward to Keiths long term solution for the vending among other things.
Am I the only person who cleans out their inventory at least twice a day?
I don't want to lose something I had plans for to a random site event :) Even though I do have Lizard Minion Repellent in my inventory at all times.

Every time I try to get into my inventory I get a gateway 504 error now.
Is anyone else seeing restocked 10 minutes ago but there are items in the shop? I saw items for 3 minutes before it finally said restocked now. . i took a photo;-/
