In the early days of the site the NPC shops were cleared on the hour every hour which was far too often. Now they are only cleared once every 24 hours which, I think, isn't often enough. The NPC shops end up drowning in junk items so things worth restocking don't come in very often.

Perhaps clearing the shops every 12 hours or even every 8 hours could be beneficial.

agree--that rule was implemented when we had a lot more players active at one time. until the site is revived (if), we need to clear them out a LOT more often

I've tried restocking items which are supposedly rare with some resale value to help clear the shops. My own shops now contain 19 copies of Caring for Your 0101, 13 copies of Diary of a Coconut, 20 Black Lava Lamps and more than 5 of other stuff as well.

I think it would be nice to have them cleared at least twice to four times a day for sure; so all the time zones get a nice shop clear :)

... but (and please correct me if I'm looking at this wrong - I've only recently started restocking), isn't part of the problem the fact that people are only buying the super profitable items, and leaving the rest? It seems to me that the best way to make profit with the shops like this would be to buy everything that's worth even ~10k profit between restocks, then search for the big items on the restock, and repeat. Is this way of thinking flawed somehow? Wouldn't it make the big items appear more often?

I've done this. It's how I ended up with 13 Blue Graphic Skirts, 14 Chomping Cherry Subars, 20 Golden Swampie Hand Puppets, 20 Sudden Hailstorm Maze Trading Cards, 33 Rubber Ducky toys plus more than 5 of other supposedly rare items.

if the shops are always stocked, no one is ever going to buy your 12k graphic skirt if they can get it in the NPC shop for 2k 24/7, so you will never make that profit

Hmm, that seems a bit circular to me? Nobody buys the lesser profit items because they're always in stock... which causes them to always be in stock because nobody buys them I'll have to keep a better eye on my sales, see if any items are sticking around, cheap crystals at least

Some extra clearing would be really nice of course ^^ but I think the problem would still remain after a couple of restocks Not sure how you'd change that though 😅

But yes - more clearing :)

this is exactly why stock clearing was implemented in the first place :) when it was in correct proportion to the # of users on the site, restocking was actually quite profitable. the profit you can make off of restocking now is negligible in comparison, hence an increased amount of stock clearing suggested (i believe)

I had a look at About Subeta.

Quote
In official shops, there are 9,475 items stocked

I'm guessing this means the number of different items which are stocked in NPC shops, not the total number of items in NPC shops because there certainly aren't that many after the shops have been cleared.

We get items from ordinary quests and battle quests. It's hardly surprising then, that mudance, common, normal and even some rares pile up in NPC shops over the day.

I think realistically what needs to happen is we need to retire most items.

Items were retired every so often in the early days so I'm all in favour of retiring some items now. We can get retired items from the Rift, Major Drills and Carnival games.

😰 There may be another answer here... which is very embarrassing for me.

When I rewrote the shop stocking system, I implemented a system for "time outs" for items that sat in the shop for a long time, making them no longer restock over the course of a week until their time out ended.

It seems like at some point I modified that to always be eligible for restocks, not taking those timeouts into account.

I've just re-enabled it (with a code comment as well) because I don't really remember the reason I did that in the first place. So, we'll see over the next 24 hours how that effects the shops and maybe make some tweaks from there (or realize why I turned it off in the first place and do it again 🤣)

edit Going to ping to this one, just because it is going to change how restocking works over the next 24 hours 💖

I think another reason why so many items sit in the shops is new ones being far more expensive to buy than original stock. For example, there are 11 Dark Cobalt Retro Galaxy Spacesuits sitting in the Atebus shop at the moment. They are R58 and they cost 5,591 sP. According to SubetaLodge's vending machine guide the rarity cap is 60 for all machines except Ocean Depths where the rarity cap is 80.

I've got a 30% discount card but I wouldn't buy them from the Atebus Shop even with a discount buff on top. People who vend will be getting them from the relevant vending machines and selling them for less than they can be restocked for.

Does this mean that there are still more items going into shops than normal, that this fix was never turned off again after the autopricer was fixed? It says 'Ongoing' so I'm not sure.

Shops usually restock every 5-6 minutes like clockwork, Is the recent change supposed to effect shop restocking times as well? It's been 10 minutes since last restock now.

I buy the cheap stuff and frag it. The stuff over 3K SP just sits there! So I think clearing the shop at least twice a day would be great! Retiring some old stuff would be great also.

Yes, with less overall items to stock the amount of time between restocks will go up.

Hah, that was a different little parameter I tweaked that I didn't remember ;) Just switched that back too, will update the status page (and try to be better about keeping it updated, I've got help now!)

I like the idea of things that sit in the shops not restocking for a few days to allow demand to rise from usershops!

I also agree with the suggestion to clear shops more often, and to get rid of the clockwork RSing.

Hope the changes made make RSing more interesting again, and help stimulate people to buy things from user shops. :)

Do you have an estimate as to what we should look for on the amount of time between restocks? I've never seen it reach 25 minutes between restocks before so I am just a little nervous that it won't restock as it should as that's been a problem in the past when changes have been implemented.
