I’m Jexxi.

I remember hearing about Subeta in the past, but never really dig into it because it seemed like there was so much to learn vs., well, the mumblemumble years of osmosis-absorbed knowledge I had about a certain other site. But then the thing with the stuff, and here I am(!), and everywhere I look, there’s something new to fall in love with!

I signed up for an account at about 10:30 last night, give or take, and at 6 this morning, I made myself go to bed. I already have four pets, one of whom got yanked into a Rift misadventure already (that would be Jay, and she’s back now, thank goodness, and I can’t decide whether her new look or more or less spooky than the Harvester she used to be).

Everywhere I look there’s something to fall in love with…and everything seems so much easier—not in a “I’m gonna accomplish my goals right away” sense, but in a “this specific thing I’m trying to do right now has so much less friction involved” way.” My shop shows me the current prices of items in it so I don’t have to spend an infinity pricing things! The quests give me links to search for that specific item so they’re not at all tedious! And yeah, let’s talk about all the amazing ways to actually customize things, and—and—and!

(I haven’t done much forum lurking yet, but art commissions for in-game currency seem to be a thing? Anyone have any good places for me to start looking into that? I love having custom pictures of pets, but my visual-art ability is strictly limited to tracing ^.^)

IRL, I’m a fiction writer (so, speaking of the above, I’d be happy to swap pet stories for art too, if that’s a thing!). I’m currently caught up in some prep work for my next novel—which I totally should have been working on instead of getting lost in all the new wonderfulness here, and which I totally have to go work on as soon as I’m done with this post; can you tell I’m procrastinating?!?! xD One of my pets may or may not be inspired by the main character. (She totally is. It’s Maleesa. She’s a dreamwalker!)

My writing time is overseen by a fish named Aeon who has, more than once, been caught (maybe a little gross? definitely funny though!)

When I’m not working, I’m playing Pokémon GO/Switch games/NeopetsSubeta, going on adventures to the museums/parks/graveyards around town (I live in one of the oldest cities in the US—there are lots of cool headstones to read!), or getting lost down internet rabbit holes I never meant to stumble into.

Anyway, that’s probably enough of that ^.^ If anyone has any tips/secrets/wisdom to share, I’d love to hear it! I’m super stoked to (finally) be here :D

Welcome! I'm a Neo convert as well. I think you'll find a lot of what you're looking for here! I can't think of much from Neopets that I didn't find here, except I did enjoy pet trading on Neo. I honestly like that it's not a thing here, because it makes the pets less of status symbols. Also, from what I recall, it was stressful!!!

Welcome to Subeta!! :) If buying art is something that interests you, I think you should definitely take a peek at the Art Market, there are lots of very talented artists on Subeta! There's even a freebies subforum as I know newer users may not have the most funds :)

What type of fish is Aeon? Is he a betta? :D I love bettas! XD

As for general tips, definitely try to do quests if you have time, they're a really easy way of making sP when you start out. Additionally, there's a link on the news page to a bunch of useful dailies, a lot of which give you free things. The Donation Corner is also accessible via Riverside, and a user quit semi recently so theres still 15k free items in there to pick through.

Finally, Morostide (our halloween event) should be starting soon, so you'll be able to trick or treat and go hunt in the pumpkin patch when that comes.

I'm currently on a third playthrough of Breath of the Wild, personally, and looking forward to the Animal Crossing direct coming on Friday, hoping it'll give me the inspiration to return to my island.

Welcome! I too came from Neo many years ago, thanks to a friend who showed me art of the Celinox on Neocolours. It was just shortly after conversion. xD I've heard a lot more people are leaving Neo in search of other pet sites since the whole NFT thing. Don't blame any of ya's.

He is a betta! He's red and his scales have a blue shimmer when the light hits them a certain way, and I luff him! He's feisty. He likes flaring at me when I feed him, like he thinks he has to fight for his food. Silly fish.

Yeah, quests seem super lucrative. That's how I've made most of my sP so far. Alas, I've also discovered that I can give my pets treasures so they have a little gallery of their own, and I'm no where near what I need to get all the items I want for [I]the first one[/I] :o I'll check out the Donation Center too, thanks for that!

Almost exclusively RPGs. My husband and I have been playing The Witcher 3 together lately (where together means we curl up on the sofa and trade off who's making decisions and who's got the controller; Breath of the Wild was our last together game!), and I'm catching up on Pokemon Sword/Shield.

Thats awesome! That actually sounds somewhat similar to a betta I used to have, I actually have a pet on subeta inspired by him haha.

Working on pet treasures is a lot of fun, some people here have huge treasure chests!

I'm hoping maybe the project is going to be doomed to fail and it will not impact the main site, but...it's hard to say still. The latest NT editorial gives me a shred of hope still.

I left Neo and became a Subetan almost a decade ago. I was locked out of my main account on Neo for 5+ years. When I finally got access again, I took one look at the site layout and said nope...Subetan for life!

To say nothing of being able to name our pets without numbers/underscores and having them all on one account. (I'm currently at 116. The downside to being a writer...TOO MANY character ideas, lol.)

Do you have a favorite writing genre? I mainly write fantasy/sci-fi. Pet stories I've done run the range from a mock interview with a rock star to mythological historical fiction. (I've had a writing shop since 2014...I can confirm that trading writing for art/graphics is definitely possible.) Outside of Subeta, I'm working on multiple novels and my third self-published book.

One of my favorite features is Pet Spotlight because you get to show off your hard work by having your pet featured on the front page.

I also write sci-fi/fantasy! I'm world-building for my NaNo project this month (I always line up new books with NaNo for the extra boost of motivation and community spirit ^.^). The struggle right now is not trying to like...write pet profile instead of, you know, actual character profiles for the novel. It scratches the productivity itch in all the wrong ways.

My problem I think is that it's too easy to come up with TC items and too hard to afford all of them :D I've been here for three days, give or take, and my wish list for [I]one pet's[/I] TC priced out at, oh, 300m or so.

Edit: Ha! I just learned I can accidentally ping myself!

Totally unrelated. Does anyone know if there's a quick way to read a bunch of books to a pet?

Unfortunately there's no real easy way to read pets fast like quickstock. I heard there is some custom CSS floating around that you can have to have the toggle for pets by default, but I'm afraid I don't use it (When you have a lot of pets, the list gets too long, especially for items with multiple uses eg. an edible wearable)

I'll help out in pretty much whatever if I'm around! :P It pings my phone so I don't have to necessarily be online to jump on and help out!

Bummer! I figured it was something like that—and making sure I read things to the right pet, and so on. Had to do it the hard way instead, but now my battle pet has read a whole bunch of books, yay!

(I thought her reactions to the love/pink ones was especially appropriate: “This has angered me!” I’m also not sure where she’s finding time to battle with all the books she swore she was going to be reading every day from now on….)

Cool! I use PokeGenie for a lot of raiding, but when I’m hosting stuff, I’ll shoot some invites your way! (I’ve been too busy Subeta-ing for the last few days to play much GO. Whoops!)
