Considering the normal person would need 250 Black Candy Bars for the achievement, and the only way to get them is via random... You would need at least (on minimum) 37M sP! Doesn't seem like much when you consider that the price is subject to inflation, because the supply is not enough to keep the demand! The average price for most game rewards (including Oofa fruits, which are needed for a similar, but less taxing achievement) is usually 25k sP or less.
Please, consider awarding Black Candy Bar from more site features. Maybe as an EXTRA reward on random? Or extra reward in features like Decanter of Indestructibility. Or even making it available in a random event could work! There are many options to reintroduce stable incomes of Black Candy Bars.
Edit: Could it maybe be that the item "Oddtu" and all of its derivatives are taking probabilities to get Black Candy Bars? The chocolate is ID 13, while the Oddtu items were added much much later in the game's life-span.
If you look at the price history on SubetaLodge (LINK), it looks like Black Candy Bars are usually 25k or less, or at least have been for most months in the past year. It seems likely the price will go back down.
To me it seems like the price goes up and down whenever someone tries to get the achievement. It is one of the rarer ones, and precisely for this reason.
I still think there should be more way to get Black Candy Bars, considering how much their price fluctuates. The achievement has the idea that you can get them easily like Oofa fruits, but that's certainly not the case.
37M is less than one would make from a month of quests, without a GA.
That's more than fair to me. You kinda need to achieve something if you want an achievement. Where is the fun if everything is click-to-get?
Having some harder achievements is fine, and this is one of the harder achievements to get indeed. Why should everything be cheap and easy to get?
Probably because this is reliant on economy. I play actively and only got like 8 candy bars from random, even with GA. Furthermore, if I were to buy the candy bars, they would inflate even more which, in turn, will make others have a harder time.
Why not award this item from more features? I don't see why so many people argue with "it has to be hard", when said difficulty is reliant on scarcity.
Yeah literally everything on the site is reliant on the economy - that's how an economy works.
"Why not award this item from more features? I don't see why so many people argue with "it has to be hard", when said difficulty is reliant on scarcity."
Because there are plenty of easier achievements, they don't all have to be take half a day of effort. There are numerous achievements that just require to be lended.
There need to be some long-term goals on Subeta, and achievements, as well as item collections (plushies, beanbags, stickers...) are that. They're the endgame goals, especially the harder ones.
Removing long-term achievements for no good reasons is bad for the site's health.
I really fail to see how Black Candy Bars should be compared to the same realm of competition as the collections.
At this point I think we cannot agree. We will have to wait and see what more people think. But I think that Candy Bars should be in the same level as Oofa fruit. I stand by it.
It's not like this game tries to be hard. The devs know we are all humans, and give us help to bypass challenges such as reintroducing retired items. I think Black Candy Bars could be made more common too.
There are different realms of difficulty. Collections are top tier, and harder achievements are just below it.
I personally do not relate to people who believe that the journey isn't a reward, that only the endgame matters. I love actually working on something, it makes me feel alive. There are so few things that are actually challenging, removing some of it would make it...less interesting. Less of a challenge, less of a story to tell.
I let my account speak for myself to show in what slice of the pie I fall on that. Specially seeing my main pet and the amount of sP I have invested on it. I do not want things to "be easier". I just believe that, for what Black Candy Bar represents, they are way too rare. I am hoping for some staff member to see my message and tell me their stance on it.
I’m not being sarcastic when I say this, but your observation here is 100% correct. Seems in this case someone decided to buy all the ones up to 150k to work on their achievement. But the price will go back down as people add more Black Candy Bars to their shops, back to the average price of a freebie. Then you can stalk the item, shop search it every couple of days, and you can buy any underpriced ones :D I love stalking user shops for cheap stuff, it’s more fun than restocking haha
If we check this here, however, that doesn't seem to be the case at all: https://www.subetalodge.us/phpgraphlib/examples/pricehistory.php?itemid=34 The price for this item is always so susceptible. Considering you need 250 of them!
I have the item shop search link in my bookmarks on PC, but nothing ever changes here for months.
(Excuse the formatting, lol. Don't know how to put links x_x )
Yeah that's a harder achievement to get, and takes some time. You have to hunt for awhile over a long period of time, that's just the way it is. Some achievements are easier than others, the system is designed that way for a reason. Good luck!
[edit]
You mentioned Oofa Fruits, do you have any idea how many you have to feed your pets to get those achievements? I've fed literally hundreds, maybe more, and I've only found 6 bugs. Just because the fruit is cheaper doesn't mean the achievement is XD
You can get Oofa fruits reliably via slots, though. Black Candy Bars are time-gated via random, and that's the only way to get them. Also, you will probably get all of the Oofra fruits you need while going for the "3 times jackpot winner" on Slots, or doing the Mayor quests.
I think that maybe letting Candy Bars be a random event as well would be so much more nice. They could probably finally go to 25K ea like most items from minigames do.
I have seen many people disagreeing with me, though. So we can only wait for a developer to address this.
if you play random regularly, you'll get candy bars. That and stalking the shop search, you'll eventually get all the ones you need. That particular achievement takes a long time, it's not meant to be instantaneous. You were right before when you said that the price goes up when someone works on the achievement, that's a given. Over time, it will deflate. Catch the ones you can and slowly you'll get where you need to be. I remember the frustration of it, that took me a long time too. But damn it felt good when I was done XD Sometimes the challenge is rewarding too!
I still think this one is a bit too extreme, considering I could play Slots as much as I wanted. But random, like I said, is time gated. I can play as often as possible (and I do), but it still takes forever. Like, seriously. It's ridiculous how much black candy bar takes to get.
I am halfway there already, but this is simply way too much. I honestly believe this isn't well designed in the slightest. It's just an oversight or devs thinking that black candy bars were more common thatn they initially are (after all, they are item ID 13, and I think the "Oddtu" items are taking slots from getting black candy bars instead)
This is not me crying for them to make it easy. It's just me saying that the difficulty seems to steep. After all, I have to say again that I am not asking for something like the item "Ether" being lowered in price.
I absolutely do not think it needs to be given out by another part of the site, but if you look at the Random thread it does seem like there really aren't that many of them going out. I play pretty religiously, and I think it's been a month since I've gotten one at all. I don't think it would be out of line to bump the rate up a little bit, but I also don't think it needs to be anything drastic.
That's probably a better way to put it. Look at how common the 'Oddtu' items are from random. They always stick to 3K, even when they are constantly asked for by the Recycle Beast!
I would support a bump in their appearance rate. It doesn't have to a big one.
The reason the tiers were added to the 'feed black candy bar' Achievement were exactly to make this item be more expensive. It did succeed in its purpose.
If they become more common, then more tiers will need to be added.
You still have to agree that the item is fairly rare, even if you play random every available time (with a GA). Others are starting to agree with that, too. Could it maybe be that the Oddtu items take chances of Black Candy Bars being awarded?
