It starts tomorrow! OMG, this year, where has it gone? I'm so not prepared.
For those who don't know, NaNoWriMo is short for National novel Writing Month, a writing spree where you aim to write a story of 50,000 words all in the 30 days of november. Its crazy, but also a lot of fun!
I'm thinking this year of doing a modified goal of 30k words, but with added challenge of also doing art of one of my characters every day of the month! How is everyone else doing? Big plans? Totally calm and prepared? Freaking out?
Last year, I lost all my writing buddies when they changed to the new website, and I never got a chance to add them back, so please post your Nano UNs here, I can make a list so we can all find each other again!
hmm I don't feel like doing a novel for this year's NaNo - do you know if we can write a collection of short stories? Or does it have to be a traditional novel?
I'm planning on continuing the story I'm working on. May also try to start working on the drawings and sketches I'll need for it as well.
- Depends on if you want to be a strict rule follower or not. Personally, I have never really written a novel, I've written parts of a novel (50k is only about a 100 page book, I tend to read/write fantasy which is typically 300 pages and usually not contained to one book) Last year I wrote an outline for a story, and also did some short stories. For me it's more about the act of writing than what I write, but the 'rules' for nano call for a novel (it's in the name!) There's also camp nano and other nanowrimo adjacent events where they encourage more of the short stories/scripts etc, but it's not like they enforce the rules at all really. If you wanted to write a bunch of short stories, go for it!
- Similar to what I'm doing then! woot!
ah I see what you mean. Maybe I should just stick to the rules. I need to have a think if I want to redraft my novel.... What is your story about this year?
Not ready at all... not sure if I'll do it, but I worked on a semi plot if I do, oof lol
Good luck everyone!
- Good Luck! Team Unprepared a gogo!
I acutally am technically taking this NanoWrimo off in a sense. Instead of actually writing a new work, I am working on turning a published novel from last year into an audiobook version. Its been a fun experience so far this year and look forward to the results at the end of the month.
:D

Somehow I have 2024 words for the day :) Hope everyone is motivated to do whatever!
Hehe, I was just going to see if there were others doing NaNo here. I wing it every year, and also rebel every year in that I haven't written a New Novel since like 2014 or so. Short stories/drabbles and rewriting things that turned out horribly at other times.
I'm just about to par for the day despite having only realized last night at ~11:30 that NaNo was upon us, haha.
- That sounds really neat!
Day 1 word count so far is 746! mostly recapping where I finished off last year. I stopped last year cus I got stuck probably should have put more of an effort in to figure out this plot hole before november hit! I'm the worst.
I wish I could participate this year, but I just started grad school and my program is throwing a lot of projects at me this month. ;n;
if I have free time, I may work on revamping my plot and everything from last year but i doubt that'll happen LMAO

Well this has been rather challenging endeavor, trying to find an adequate recording space has been difficult to say the least. I set up a small office in a closet and tried to dampen the acoustics but theres still some echoing going on.
Let alone, my microphone isnt suited for this type of activity, so I may have to bite to bullet and buy a condenser microphone and with a nice preamp.
WHy those two are the biggest issues at the moment, trying to come up with the necessary skill in vocal inclination and other various aspects have been a little difficult but I think I'm getting into ther swing of things. In that aspect.
Before I do bit ethe bullet though, I'm going to tyr one last set up and see how that plays/pans out,

I have been struggling to write the last few days. It feels like there just aren't words in my head. It is. Very frustrating. Hopefully I'm able to get something going here in the next few days, but up until now, NaNo has felt like a bit of a bust for me. I don't usually struggle this much at the beginning of the month. =/
- welcome to team behind! I'm frustrated by lack of words right now too (I'm behind even for my modified 1k a day word goal!)! I'm pulling out one of my 'de-stress' colouring books and hoping that some mindful relaxation will get me back into the right headspace.
- Oof, thought I responded to you already :( Recording can be tough, if you're having trouble with echo though, probably better to be in a bigger space rather than a smaller one. simple white noise that you pick up in a larger space can pretty easily be edited out with most editing software. I use audacity, and my microphone is a Blue Yeti (just the base model, I don't know what it's specs are but a friend recommended it, and it was relatively cheap). I don't record much, but usually get pretty decent results when I do. Not studio quality by any means, but if that's what your aiming for, you really need an actual studio, and you're probably going to need to bite that bullet. Good luck! Sounds really interesting what you're doing. I'd love to get into some sort of voice acting myself, but I'm not ambitious enough. lol.
I broke 15k last night! Ahead of par, but man, only barely. My goal is to attempt to reach 2,000 words a day instead of the expected 1667, and I've somehow floundered my way there each day. But let me tell you that when I say it's garbage, I mean it, haha.
But they are words! And I wrote them! So a success!
How's everyone else doing?
- Still behind over here! lol. Didn't write anything yesterday cus I was playing DnD instead. Supposed to catch up today, but instead walked to the grocery store to get milk, and it was so cold and windy, it took longer than planned. Also, trying to not write garbage this year! lol. So the words are coming slower.
Coming in late this year. Wasn't even sure I was going to bother because my life's been an extra huge mess with moving house and all of my health issues and I've just had writer's block for months now but last night it hit me and I'm gonna go with it, I guess. Don't expect to hit 50k but just busting out of the black is good enough for me.
- Great to have you along! Sounds like me last year, I moved in October last year, then I went on a last minute vacation cus my sister found a good deal, and then I just found myself so far behind it was demoralizing, but I still got 30k words, which I think was worth it in the end!
D&D!! I just finished playing, myself. I ended up kind of writing out the session in story format tonight, and I'm counting it as part of my words, tbh. It's a bit cheaty, but it was neat writing it out so the other players can read it. Creative words are creative words as far as I'm concerned.
Honestly, NaNo isn't about 100% hitting 50k. It's about telling your story and having the community around you doing the same thing. It's an encouragement thing, an allyship. It's breaking through that inertia and Getting Going. Even if you don't hit 50k, whatever you do write will be more than you had before, and that's amazing. :D
