With the introduction of the our new subscriptions (thank you to everyone who has subscribed already!!) and custom wearable vouchers we're looking to shake up the custom wearable market. BUT we want to share the decision making for the market that so many of you have poured so much creative energy, time and money into.
The concept and rules for custom wearables come from a long time ago, when we were worried about them overrunning the site completely with hundreds of items. 😆 Well, we're now at tens of thousand items on the site and I believe we've crossed that bridge. Thousands of times. So, the new focus and guiding light for the CW market is to make it as easy and efficient as possible to submit an item and get it on the site, and just as easy to find the perfect CW to complete your outfit, for as few CSC as possible to continue to support the site.
We're starting to find where our creative focus is best spent (plots! events! features!) and it's not on pumping out new wearables (y'all have that COVERED), so, we're putting together a small group of users to work with us on three specific, near term goals:
These goals push us to make the market sustainable so that we have the resources to continue to build and improve the wardrobe and the other areas of the site and focus our staff creative energy building those long term goals. We're starting to reach out to users that we would like to be involved in this council this week, but if you would like to put your name in the ring please send me a smail with what you think you'll be able to bring to the above discussions. We're looking for people passionate about the CW market, from someone who just has an interest in custom wearables to someone who has submitted hundreds of items to the site.

This post is going to be the theme of posts to come. I've got some great ideas for ways to change the game to inject a little bit of excitement into it, and I want to make them together.
Some of them are going to feel like breaking the game, but hopefully we make it more fresh and different. I've got a list of things that when asked why they work the way they do it's "well, Neopets did it that way". We've now gone through a generation of sites who said that the features worked that way because Subeta did it. Time to change!
Coming in the next week is our plan to address unique pet names, with a timeline for rapid implementation.

I love the idea of Pricing and the submitter getting multiple copies and it being a reduced price to get to "shop" as sometimes with say the 2500 category its a bit high and then of course recolors sit on folks hard drives forever. I am a bit concerned about making CW's "too" cheap only because those of us who have submitted many copies of items (that are still in our shops) we did have to pay the "maximum" price to get those items on site, which means say an average CW is now 200 or 300 to "buy" no one will want to buy your wig or whatever for 700 csc because maybe the new price drops wigs down to 250 csc?
Also what about profit margins? For the longest time CW releasers say sell something for 700 csc and they get 100-200 csc in 'profit" and the other portion goes to you guys....How will that work for these new and lower prices for CW's? I would love an option where I get at least 2-3 copies (for myself and the artist and maybe a giveaway/contest one) and I get all of the profit for my release...so if my CW is 250 I get 250 when the item sells.
Also for I'd be concerned about users being part of the process to approve CW's....For example I release stuff myself but I am NOT an artist and what if something I said stops an item from being approved on site or an artist having to do more work that they wouldn't have had to do otherwise if it had been approved by staff?
overall though I am excited to have things cheaper because $16-25 real life dollars to get "each" item plus recolors has been ridiculous with only one copy given because most artists require a copy so having to fill TWO batches just to get my copy/artist copy has been a pain....so I'm really looking forward to seeing where this all goes!
Join my ping group to get notified of new wears. Buying mage amulets for 5 csc each, comment me to sell.
I am just a single item creator and occasional CW wearer (though I seriously love the ones I got!) but this seems really exciting!
Golly gosh, there is so much to improve over Neopets, and we users and staff of Subeta are awesome in the ways that we have. BREAK THE THINGS.
This really sounds exciting and I can't wait for more info to come of this from the CW pricing stand point and what have you. Good luck with everything!
Can we still use PayPal cause mine did not want to go through?
I really love all of the new ideas!! I just wish my wardrobe hadn't suddenly stopped loading...
This is a nice idea!
Personally I'd start by lowering the prices for submitting CWs that cover a very small part of the avatar image. Main examples are rings and body tattoos. I remember seeing the prices for submissions and thought it was strange to pay 500+ CSC for such a item since its hard to notice them at first glance, especially when other items will catch your eye first.

I know I'm just going to get told to make a separate board again, but this 100% applies to this RIGHT HERE.
You have to remove the mandatory 'site currency' payment for creators (AND NOT JUST CW ARTISTS). If you want to incentivize people into this market, you need to let people decide how they want to be paid otherwise there are going to be a limited supply of artists and more releasers than we could possibly provide for.

Also please clarify because I feel like I've read this wrong or I am misunderstanding, but... does point 2 mean that users are basically running the CW queue instead of a staff member? Or is this alongside? Because that sounds a lot like 'free labor'? and I remember a lot of talk about how 'internships' were shady from you before? I think I'm misunderstanding though?
Thank you so much for your post. You brought up extremely relevant and important questions! I'm really looking forward to see what they say about your post :) This sweeping change could be thrilling or terrifying based on those answers!
<3!!! Yes! Absolutely! If all of these overhauls are what keeps this site alive, I’m all for it. So happy to see genuine, open communication through the changes too, especially giving creators more of a voice. Without both staff and users, Subeta wouldn’t exist!
Neopets is a faceless organization. No one should want to be like Neopets, lol
Maybe I missed it, but what role is this council intended to play? Helping develop the new rules and pricing? Will they be involved in the queue?
I fully support this!
Keith, after all these years its amazing to see you still have so much passion for Subeta. I had an old account wayyyy back in the day and then just a few years ago came back with this new account. May Subeta live forever!
To help develop new rules, recommend new policies for the queue, and pricing.
They will not be involved in accepting or denying items from the queue.

Honestly the changes to the CSC, subscriptions and CW is looking to be really good. I love CWs and would love to support more creators but obviously, they can be very expensive. (not saying they should be dirt cheap, the artists worked very hard on them and deserve credit!) I'm excited to see where this goes! I do hope there is something to make up to artists who already have CWs on site if you intend to lower it so they can at least recover from it and not lose more then anything.
If we relax the rules I am so very intrigued by this. Also very worried by what it might mean.
Exactly this. I never slot much on rings because it was always ridiculous to pay the price the user wanted. I'm really excited over the change and I'm interested in finding out more as this roles out!
What's going to happen to all the items that's currently overrunning the site now? o-o
Sounds like some interesting changes, but as a person who primarily uses sP and not CSC, I'm concerned about this "staff no longer making as many wearables". I hope we'll continue to get unique staff-made wearables and that they're not reduced too much.

I look forward to the changes you and the team of user come up with for CWs. Lower prices are probably what I look forward to most. Prices for small items could definitely go lower but I think it would also be nice to break down the pricing maybe a little more. This also seems like a good time to work out how private items might be handled going forward. I know some are for and others are against but if we are going to continue to have private items now seems to be the perfect time to decide how it will work and possibly add new features. While I don't like seeing awesome items I can never have because they are private or VERY limited in numbers, with prices where they are now I never expected to have any CWs.
had a very good point though about the price changes and how they will effect the current item prices and the current CW artists/vendors. As much as I am greatly looking forward to lower prices I hope that it becomes more of a benefit instead of a detriment to our current creators.
