I'm not suggesting they're retired but maybe their titles and/or descriptions could be changed. People can add their own finds if they think it's a good idea and I'll add more to this opening post as I find them.

1. Book - Running A Cult - We don't have Cults on Subeta now.

2. Book - Keith VS Cyde - Description "The epic tale of the restocking battle between two teams, led by the admins Keith and Cydewinder...based on a true story!" I don't think this fits the fictional world of Subeta any more because it's changed a lot since this restocking war.

3. Book - Artists Sketch Book - Description "Hmm, it looks like this sketch book belongs to a Subeta artist. Oh my, look, unfinished sketches of all of those pet colors you have been hinting for! Eeee!" Maybe it would suit the site better if this was Vanyas Sketch Book because he creates designs for Nostalgic pets.

4. Book - Downloading Torrents - Description "If you're interested in becoming a Torrent owner, check out this new book that's hitting the shelves. It's a simple guide on how to download your Torrent effectively. Because, seriously, adopting pets is SO yesterday." An internet pun but it's unlikely that the inhabitants of the fictional Subeta world have access to Earth internet.

5. SubetaBucks Coffee Mints - The SubetaBucks shop was changed to Get Mugged a long time ago.

1. The book can stay as is. Just because Subeta no longer has cults as the equivalent of neo's guilds doesn't mean that there are no cults in Subeta's lore. If this is going to change, the book All About Gentry Inc. should also go because that was a pretty famous pet cult way way back, iirc.

2. Agreed, that should be changed. I think there are still some Cyde items, and some other books that feature old staff members (Modified Book Of Records comes to mind).

3. It can stay. Maybe instead of referencing Subeta artists, it can just be a nod to the art of someone who just really likes drawing subeta pets. Then again... all users who are artists in Subeta's world are technically Subeta artists, if you want to go the way of lore. -thinking emoji- I feel that this one depends on how you want to deal with semantics.

4. I think it should stay as a little tongue-in-cheek reference to torrents. Going all purist is tiring and dull.

- Are Cults mentioned in the Subetapedia? If not, there will be users who have no idea what a cult was. I've been here 14 years and don't remember a cult called Gentry Inc. It was a very long time ago because the book's item ID according to SubetaLodge is 2627 while the Muck Spirit which was added to the Bathhouse yesterday is 210922.

There are a lot of magic items and books so maybe Running A Cult could be changed to Running A Coven.

It's entirely up to the staff, though.

It was a very very old cult, I think it might've been around pre-reset actually! But I can't really give you a more accurate answer because I don't know much about it myself. I was never interested in cults, groups and the likes. :'D

Running a Coven could work as a replacement, but I agree, it's up to staff ultimately. Cults aren't exactly a shining beacon of joy IRL, but knowing some of Subeta's creative minds, I wouldn't put it past people to have a pet involved in or even running a fantasy cult.

The only one I think should be changed is the SubetaBucks one, just rename it and bam. Honestly, the rest are fine.

aside from number 4 there are no need to changes this items, they should stay the same unless staff confirm that they are not compatible with subeta world lore

As I said in an earlier post it's up to the staff. Players make suggestions and the staff make the decisions.

I'm fine with the downloading torrents book. It's a joke.

The only one I support is changing the Subetabucks thing.

Personally, I like the odd strange reference to old things that few remember these days. These items don't confuse new users as far as I can tell. I hang around a lot in the help & questions forum and these things just don't come up very often.

Things I would change are stuff that scare people - like the description of the infinity berry that says it can mutate your pet (it can't) and other old jokes like that. That's the type of thing that comes up frequently.

I think rewriting/revamping items that reflect the site's history would be sad. I'd prefer that items that referred to actual countries (flags, etc.) and real life holidays be revamped into something more in keeping with the site's lore.

Subetabucks is the one I would toss. Rename the whole line to Get Mugged. c:

I agree with Lypsyl that items with misleading descriptions should also be altered.

I personally like all the books and don't think they should be changed.

Just because Cults are replaced by Forum Groups doesn't mean that the word "cult" doesn't have more than one meaning. It's far from the weirdest subject matter of any Subeta book.

There was a restocking battle not too long ago with a snowball throwing fight, so that this sort of thing happens is a Subeta thing. Just because many users never met Cyde doesn't mean nobody has. Cyde could be entirely fictional and this book could be about a fictional history like Game of Thrones is.

Humans don't eat or fight in Subeta: only pets do. There's no reason that Subeta can't have artists on it. Maybe they are all pet-artists. I'll bet NPC Connor Rainsong can draw.

Fruit Stripe Gum is an orphan gum from all the RL candy company world-monopolizations, the brand remains and you can still find it if you look. It's made in Mexico now. Therefore even though there isn't a SubetaBucks anymore doesn't mean that no NPC on Subeta owns the SubetaBucks trademark (I'm guessing it'd be NPC Jaxon, or the Battle Coliseum Challenger Cinthilocks).

There's a whole shop called Bits and Bytes run by NPC Nico that's all modern tech and another run by NPC Melman the Atebus Shop that's all futuristic. Of course Subetans use computers. Even if computers are an Earthling introduction doesn't mean the natives can't use them now. My very first pet was a Torrent and she remembers being downloaded. GIven how you can make your otherwise non-mechanical pet into Steamworks and they still stay alive with all their former stats and gender, this isn't much of a stretch to me.

The only one that I support is changing the "Keith VS Cyde" book. I know that Keith items have been having a lot of name changes, so I could fully see this being changed in the future.

The other ones have no reason to change, even the "SubetaBucks" mints. There are other SubetaBucks items still around. If they were to change those to "Get Mugged" though, that would probably be fine.

No need to change the art, just the descriptions. Make them pro- or anti-shrubbery or shaving.

The art definitely needs to be changed lol. That's just the circle tool in photoshop and Arial font.

Running a Cult: A cult is a real world thing. The book doesn't specifically reference Subeta's cult system, so anyone new to the site would absolutely still understand it in a real-world context.

Keith vs. Cyde: Maybe get rid of the "admin" reference, but otherwise I don't mind having a piece of history on the site like this. The restock war happened (as did several others), and it's a part of Subeta's canon even if most people don't remember it. I don't see a reason to retcon that out of existence. (PS: If we're going to try to preserve the idea that Subeta is a real world and not just a website, NPCs need to stop referring to us as "users". That was really jarring during the recent Morostide plot. But that's kind of a separate topic.)

Downloading Torrents: Considering we get "text messages" from NPCs during some plots and we have a whole mess of computer-related items, I don't know why you'd think NPCs wouldn't understand internet references.

I was just thinking that the inhabitants of planet Subeta wouldn't have access to planet Earth's internet. On the other hand, it would probably be possible with the aid of some magic spell. :D
