Hello everyone!
I'm an anime lover and I'm stuck at what anime I would like to start next haha. So my question is, what are your favorite animes?
-Some of my favorites are Higurashi no Nako Koro Ni Kai, Natsume Yuujinchou, Shiki, Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood, and Anohana-The Flower we Saw that Day. (My HA is actually dressed as Rika Furude from Higurashi at the moment haha)
Let me know some of your favorites in the comments! And if you'd like to leave a description and why you love it I would appreciate it since I'm looking for a new anime to start. :D Thanks!
i watched Higurashi too. Sailor moon [the original, but the new one was ok too], inuyasha, nana, vampire knight, riki-oh [it's old anime movie? or this is what i watched], demon city shinjuku [another OLD anime movie], ayashi no ceres [old anime series]
I really have to update my blog ObscureJourney and my review site BeingObscure. French speakers can read my reviews here.
Currently my favs are Yuri on Ice and Gintama.
YoI: What I love most about it are the characters and music. The characters are complex and they feel real to me. The op and ed songs, the bgm, and the skating programs songs are all amazing too. I hope you will give it a try!
Gintama: It's an anime that has a lot of episodes but it just gets better and better. The majority of it is a comedy series with a few serious arcs here and there and then deep down there is a plot that moves slowly throughout the series.
At first I couldn't really get into it yet because I haven't gotten used to the comedy and the story/arcs felt very random because they are mostly episodic but once I got used to the comedy and know the characters better I became hooked and couldn't stop watching.
Funny that I'm actually rewatching FMAB right now haha! I've seen all the ones you mentioned and we seem to have similar taste in anime, feel free to check out my anime list in one of my links below if you want. :)
My favourite anime: "Yu Yu Hakusho". It's an older anime, but I love it for the characters, the dialogues and the story. I mean, what other anime kills its hero in the very first episode? :D
Second place goes to "Magi" (both seasons: Labyrinth of Magic / Kingdom of Magic). Maybe you now the "One Thousand and One Nights" tales? Or "Disney's Aladdin"? Then you may recognize a few names, but there's quite a different story going on in "Magi" ^.^
Runner-ups are "Hunter x Hunter" (both 1999 and 2011) and "Ushio and Tora". There are two versions of "Hunter x Hunter", mostly referred to by their date of appearance. The 2011 version sticks closer to the original manga than the one from 1999, but I like them both. "Ushio and Tora" is an older anime as well that I just found myself and started watching. So I'm not sure how to describe it, yet. For the time being, I'll just go with one word: hilarious :)
YYH was awesome! One of my fav oldies for sure. The dub was surprisingly good too. Who's your fav character? Is it Kurama? points to your signature xD Mine's Hiei, he's just so cool LOL
Magi was another good one too. I liked Judar the most, guess I have a thing for "bad boys"... hahaha
Yep, Kurama =^.^= And yes, they did a great job with the English dub. I've watched YYH with the English dub, because YYH never made it to Germany. Well, they dubbed the second movie of YYH with a horrid German dub that made me cringe throughout the whole movie x.x
Every time I'm watching Magi, there's one question I'm asking myself about Judar: How in the world does he get away with everything? Well, same goes for Sinbad :D
Kurama's demon(?) self (I forget xD) is beautiful heh. I didn't know it had movies! Based on the ratings it doesn't seem like they were as good as the series though. :( Are your ears still okay? I hope the German dub didn't destroy them LOL
Hahaha that's so true. I love the art in the Magi manga, especially their costumes they're gorgeous.
Yes, my ears survived. Unfortunately, most animes got a poor German dub. One of the few animes with a good dub is Magi :D
I like Kurama both in his human and his fox demon appearance. Although his fox demon self should have gotten some more screen time xD The movies were both okay. The first movie (The Golden Seal) got recycled by Bleach (The Diamond Dust Rebellion). My favourite aspects of the second YYH movie are that we get to know a bit more about Kurama's past and Hiei who attempts to give comfort to Kurama ^.^
And then, there's "Eizou Hakusho", meaning the OVAs for YYH. They're rather short episodes that, to my understanding, try to give a "proper" ending to YYH :)
i loooved sailor moon when I was a kid, maybe I'll watch some episodes! And I also loved Vampire Knight!
thank you! I will definitely look through your list lol I'm always looking for something new to watch! And I've been wanting to try Gintama thanks for the suggestions:)
yu yu hakusho has been on my to watch it for a while now.. I've been watching some older anime lately and I really enjoy them.
Thank you everyone! :)
My big faves are Inuyasha, Haibane Renmei, Free!, Cyborg 009, Heat Guy J, One-Punch Man and Tiger & Bunny! (I'm bad at explaining/descriptions, but if I were to recommend at least one of these, it'd be Haibane Renmei! It's really unique and nostalgic for me personally. ;v; Here's a summary!)
It's incredibly hard for me to decide which animes are my favourite. However! I'll base myself on what I'd rewatch anytime (and still enjoy it)
Here it goes haha ... Natsume Yuujinchou (all seasons, everything) Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood Yuri on ice Sailor Moon / Cardcaptor Sakura Akagami no Shirayuki-hime Barakamon Boku no Hero Academia (especially 2nd season) Haikyuu!! (all seasons) Kono Subarashii Sekai ni Shukufuku wo! (all seasons) Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica Movie 3: Hangyaku no Monogatari One Punch Man
There are more but ngl, it's too hard to decide haha :P
How the heck can you have like ... 2? LMAO
more like unfortunately most animes have poor dubs in any language u__u haha! i agree, more demon kurama would have been nice. oh i didn't know there were ovas too. there's gonna be a new yyh ova that will be coming out in october, i'm pretty excited for it. :)
i hope you'll find quite a few that you'll end up liking! gintama is even more enjoyable if you've seen/watched most of the shounen jump series (bleach, naruto, one piece, dragonball, etc) cause they do parodies on them xD
i said currently!! c; fmab is on your list, VERY GOOD. it's on mine too ofc. didn't know you liked shirayuki that much "Boku no Hero Academia (especially 2nd season)" ....SHOTO <3 <3 Devilman should be on your list too 😏
Shirayuki was a great anime too. I like it both for the fact that it's rather "fast-paced" story-wise and that you don't know who Zen really is for most of the first episode :) Another good "Shoujo": Akatsuki no Yona.
And Cardcaptor Sakura was the first manga I owned (followed closely by Inu Yasha) ^.^
Yes, that's true... and it's why I'm watching animes in Japanese or English most of the time... Another poorly dubbed anime is Chaika, although it's not as bad as the YYH movie xD
What? A new YYH OVA? I need to check that out at once. And hope I can get my hands on it someday :D
Puella Magi Madoka Magica is my favorite! My username probably gives it away, but I especially loved Rebellion Story. :'^) I think Homura, Sayaka, and Kyouko are my favorite characters. I'm equal parts excited and nervous about the fourth PMMM movie (I think it's a movie?) in the works, haha...
I also had a lot of fun watching Kill la Kill, and I've been meaning to rewatch it someday.
I've watched more shows than those two, but they're probably the ones I enjoyed most. I'm interested in checking out the Monogatari series since the animation looks so nice, but... I'm lazy about watching things lol. :'0
rise from the dead A MOVIE ???
- Yeah! :0 idk if we're allowed to post offsite links (I haven't been active on the forums in ages), but you should be able to find the concept trailer if you look up "Madoka concept movie". I have no idea when it's coming out or what it's about, other than that it takes place after Rebellion Story, though. ;u; I think the trailer was first shown in December 2015, so I hope more info comes out soon...!
THE PART WITH MADOHOMU. I SCREAMED MY ENTIRE LUNGS OUT. When Madoka said 'You ... have ... me'. I'm just going to gently sob and rest for a week. I need to recover. I'm in the hype train with you. My soul is thirsty.
oh man...I'm just wandering over here. I'm one of those old people who use to watch a lot of anime but hasn't picked up any in years. I'm stuck with the old stuff that are probably "classics now", I barely recognizing half the titles you guys are mentioning.
Some of my favorites (series, OVAs, films): - Vampire Hunter D (the movies and the novels, and there's suppose to be a series coming out "Resurrection"...) Gundam Wing G Gundam Outlaw Star Cowboy Bebop Argento Soma Appleseed (film) The Big O Trinity Blood Chrono Crusade Samurai Champoo Hellsing Witch Hunter Robin Blue Submarine No. 6 (OVA) Last Exile Metropolis (film) Yu Yu Hakusho
Yaaasssss, Yu Yu Hakusho <3 Definitely in my top...idk, 5? 10? I like far too many anime. Demon Kurama, hnnnnnggg
So many good ones I love in your list! Vampire Hunter D! OMG YAS. <3 And Trinity Blood is an absolute obsession for me, every time I go back and rewatch it, I am so sad that there is no more. It's one of the few anime/manga that I've actually gone and read fanfic for because I couldn't stand it just being over. Chrono Chrusade, Samurai Champloo <3
I'll list a few more I adore that no one's brought up yet.
Rurouni Kenshin - my absolute favorite of all time, BATTOUSAIIIII <3 -fangirls so hard- The OVAs are also exceptionally amazing as well Trigun The Wallflower Fruits Basket Ghost in the Shell: SAC Blood + Black Lagoon Witchblade Seirei no Moribito Gokusen Spice and Wolf S.A: Special A
I could probably go on for a while, but I looooove all of these series. xD
Oh, someone else who watched Demon City Shinjuku! It's rare to find someone mention it. :)
Some among my favorites on MAL are:
Also, it's great to see someone else appreciating Higurashi no Naku Koro ni (that show creeped me the hell out when I first watched but I still loved every minute of it) and FMA: Brotherhood (I liked both, to be honest).
Having watched over 500 anime so far, I'll just throw a few more titles that got a 10 from me:
Ghost in the Shell series (SF/action/thriller/political), Akira (kinda SF-ish/action), Ah! My Goddess movie (fantasy/romance), Appleseed! (SF/action/mecha), Full Metal Panic! (mecha/comedy/action), Macross Zero (SF, space, mechaish), Golden Boy (romance/slice of life comedy), PlanetES (drama/slice of life about space trash collectors... yes, I know how that sounds, but it's really amazing, trust me). Karas (SF/fantasy, flashy action, probably not a good pick for someone with epilepsy 'cause it's colorful and flashy), Nightwalker: The Midnight Detective (action/fantasy/vampires), Vampire Hunter D (both movies, dark fantasy/vampires), Tokyo Godfathers (SOL, drama, comedy, heartwarming story, good pick to watch with someone who doesn't watch anime usually, best to watch around Christmas), Utawarerumono (drama, action, fantasy, mecha; lots of women with animal ears (and men) and war strategy, feudal Japan-like setting), Tokyo Marble Chocolate (romance/comedy, only 2 episodes, good pick to watch with SO, especially on Valentines), and last but not least: Jyu-Oh-Sei ("Planet of the Beast King", sf, drama, shoujo even!). If you want something older and drama-action filled, try Iria: Zeiram the Animation.
Sorry for the long post. ^^"
