A couple of days ago someone created a whole bunch of pets and then dumped them in the adoption center.
I'm of the opinion that this is not a good idea for the site. These pets were all basic with no training and common coloured (a user then took it on themselves to colour them all bloodred which was nice).
I know a lot of people won't see the harm in it but it ties up all those names stopping anyone renaming their pets and people joining the site, who don't know about the adoption center yet, from making pets with those names themselves.
I don't think anyone who has been on the site for more than a week needs this kind of "help" making pets.
If they had been trained, zapped or coloured then it would be different.
My suggestion is... When mass creation dumps happen these pets should be deleted.
Steeling myself for the backlash but happy to get other opinions
[edit]
I agree a dumping limit per day would be a good idea.
I agree. It feels like such a troll-y thing to do since it does tie a bunch of names up for seemingly no reason whatsoever. And we all know that you shouldn't feed the trolls so deleting them when something like this is done feels like a good counter-action to me. Those were my 2 cents about this anyway ^_^
I dunno, it's nice to go to the pound and have a reason to stay on the page for longer than five seconds.
The names aren't terrible and it's not even over 100. Let them be don't murder them gosh
I'm of the agreement to just let them be. Some people adopt for names and not colors. I'm out of slots since I filled up my most recent slot, but I usually adopt for names and not colors so a pet being basic isn't a big deal to me.
The names aren't half-bad and chances are they'll probably get adopted at some point anyway.
That user is probably blocked from pouding any pet ever again, so there is no harm really Unless this becomes a frequent thing, I don't think the pets should be put to rest
I don't think this is a big enough deal to delete those poor pets.
I like stumbling across nice names in the adoption centre - I generally don't see it as a troll thing to do but more like giving people opportunity to consider things they may not have thought to look up on their own.
Although I'm less a fan of names that are random strings of numbers and letters, but I haven't seen that in awhile. And even then, I don't think they should be deleted.

It's really not a big deal...
I was surprised when I saw all those names in there... but I did see a few that caught my eye. Some people might like the fact there's a bunch of names that might also grab their attention. I'm sure there's still plenty of names not taken or still on inactive accounts. If it becomes a regular thing though then yeah something should be looked into... but for now it seems fine as is. It may give newbies and olbies an excuse to look in the pound every once in a while.
Nobody is harmed by this. Nobody.
No support. What counts as "mass creation", anyway? Five pets a day? Ten? Fifteen?
i thought it was a nice surprise, actually. sometimes you might see a completely random name you never would have thought up and suddenly be inspired - that's how i've ended up with the majority of my pets, at least. deleting the pets seems unnecessarily mean, it's not like their names are offensive or spammy or anything. also, deleting them would be deleting perfectly viable pet IDs, and what if one of them just so happened to be the perfect ID for someone who is interested in that sort of thing? now that ID is gone forever and it will never exist again. just because they aren't pets YOU want doesn't mean they shouldn't be allowed to exist or be seen by anyone else.
(also, 70-80 pets is hardly a lot. or am i the only one who remembers when the pound averaged 200-400 pets?)
I wouldn't mind them being deleted, especially if it frees up those ids/names for pets people actually want. Or someone mentioned users being banned from pounding pets after mass dumping, not sure if that's for real or not, but that's a good idea. I mean maybe the person thought they were being helpful? They probably didn't realize they are actually taking away those names from active users who might want them now or in the future. (as opposed to a pet being impulse adopted during a mass add and then left to rot. The ID for at least a year if they go inactive. The pet itself, much longer.) If you did want a name that was used up for no reason during a mass add but don't have a slot, that would suck too. It just seems silly to create these pets for no purpose. If people want name inspiration we have quite a few threads for just that thing. I highly doubt that deleting mass added pets will become a thing, there'd probably be too many problems with it. It's not the end of the world that they're in the pound really. I like when there's more to browse in there but like, 70+ for no reason is just.. a lot.. haha. ;) I know it's not that big a deal... And I'm fine with them not being deleted too. But I still wouldn't hate it if something were done to discourage users who do it. Or if it opened up a discussion on putting a cap on the number of pets you can pound in a certain time limit.
Tbh I find this suggestion bizarre and I don’t understand what the problem is in doing this either.

I don't think they should be deleted, but perhaps a time limit on creating/pounding pets?
if the pets would have random numbers/letters, I'd agree to just delete them. but IMO the names are pretty nice so I'd say: let them be.
I’m for a limit on creating & dumping, but, I’ve been cruising the adoption center for a few days now and adopted a couple with cute names and zapped them to give them new lives! (I haven’t zapped anything I wanted to keep, but, they were too cute to zap again! LOL!)

I don't see the necessity of this. Deleting them won't make their ID available, well/ok named pets will eventually be adopted and badly named ones won't, but what's the harm of making 123_ilovexuxa_456 unavailable for others to create? It's nice to be considerate of newbies but that's part of being one, every single pet in active accounts right now is less one that could be created by said newbie, what can be done? But I really like 's idea, make a daily limit or a timer for pounding, even if it's only 1 hour this can discourage users to mass dump. Also making the pet's "owner" the Pound with a link to it might be nice too.
That aside, I don't see why the pets would need to be deleted, they're all pretty decent names! A lot of them found homes already. If the pound was loaded with names like 234_assbasket_1241, then yeah, I'd definitely agree with deleting them.
I've just had a look and seen some very nice names there. I don't see why the pets should be deleted. I've adopted eight pets from the pound and 6 of them still have their original names because I liked them.
I can understand the concern of the OP, but I don't think it's that big of a deal in this case. I don't think these particular pets need to be deleted. If pound spamming is against the rules then that user has likely been taken care of. However, since there's hardly ever ANYTHING in the adoption center, I saw several people who were actually really happy to see all these new pets in there, myself included. I took the time to look through to see if anything struck my fancy - none did, but still. I thought they seemed like great fantasy names regardless.
