What sorts of things have you accomplished recently in your writing? Have you been writing ceaselessly for the past 87 hours? Did you add a comma where there wasn't one before? Did you come up with a new character? Did you make changes to an old, beloved character? Did you finish your novel and have begun to edit? Or maybe you got a whole new idea and can't wait to get started on it!
Whatever progress you've made — big or small — is welcome here!
Okay, so, I hope this is within the rules of the forum and the group. This is a topic on another site I frequent and would love to be able to bring it here, as I appreciate this site more than the other one. Plus, I'd like to bring some life back into this forum! So, yes, hello.
After binging on old Vampire Diaries episodes on Netflix, I've given in and started writing some vampire fluff that was maybe going to be fanfiction but is turning into its own thing. I'll be doing Camp NaNoWriMo with it and just see how far it goes. It's fun.
I also joined an in-person writing group after leaving my old group when I moved house a year ago. I love silently typing near other writers. (We do chat, too, but also there's quiet time to focus.)
Ooo this is a cool idea! Unfortunately, I haven't written anything in a while. I've been working more on art and costumes.
I haven't done much writing recently. I really should get back on that, and back into role play, too.
I'm so glad someone else wants to bring life back to this forum! It's my favorite forum on here.
Unfortunately, I haven't been able to do any creative writing in months while I'm teaching this semester, but I would love to resume revising my thesis. It was a collection of short stories that I'm hoping to turn into stand-alone novels.
So, I wrote a thing...
Home
He held the fret board gently in his palm as his fingers curled over the aged wood to stroke the guitar strings. Then from the base of the neck to the lower end of the headstock, his fingertips grazed the loosely tuned strings of the old acoustic. The sound of a subtle buzz was the result of his actions and as the sound reverberated in the whitewashed walls of his cramped bedroom. It echoed in the back of his mind as well. It brought him back to a time where he was even more of an amateur than he was now. It brought him back to those long sleepless nights he stayed up strumming away on the same old guitar as his younger sister listened and hummed in harmony with the simple tune. It brought him it back home. But he wasn’t home. He was far from it. One thousand one hundred and eighty-seven miles to be exact.
With a heavy sigh, he shoved aside the nearest pile of clothes on his bed knocking off a few wadded-up socks, several crumpled tees, and a pair of well-worn jeans of questionable cleanliness onto the floor. He then sat down on the mattress and kicked off his scuffed-up sneakers, sending them halfway across the room and onto the only known clean lump of laundry. He grumbled at the sight, but did nothing to better the situation. Instead, he flopped down on his back and stared at the ceiling.
I have a day off today, so I'm thinking of working on my novel for the entirety of the afternoon. To catch everyone up on what's going on, I have written ~50k words, but decided to print it all off and re-enter it into a document as a form of editing. I know this is a huge sin! But there were a few things that happened early on that changed the direction of the story in a way I didn't care for. I wrote about 200 new words the other day, which I remind myself is 200 words I didn't have before, but it feels lame in comparison to the 1600 new words I wrote a few days prior. But it's progress! Yeah!
Something about writing fanfiction can be so cathartic! It's really awesome that it's turning into its own thing, though! And I'm so very jealous of the in-person writing group. That's really great, and I hope that it encourages you to come up with some great material!
Personally, I've been getting a ton of art of my characters lately. When I'm feeling like I haven't done much with my novel, I remind myself it's technically progress, haha, so if your art or costumes have something to do with your writing, maybe you feel similarly? :')
You absolutely should get back into writing! Camp NaNoWriMo is right around the corner if you're so inclined!
Subeta is full of creative people; there's no way there's such a few amount of writers to keep the forum so slow. I am determined to get some writing discussion going on! Your thesis sounds so cool! I really hope that works out for you.
That is extremely detailed. I can see it happening in my mind without having to come up with the details myself, which is pretty neat. It sounds very lonely, and I wonder if that's what you're going for.
Thanks! And yeah, it's supposed feel kinda lonely. The character is feeling homesick. :(
This is part of a novel I'm writing for Camp NaNoWriMo since I failed terribly at it in November. But I don't feel too bad, it was my first attempt after all... Would you like to see some more? If not, I understand. :)
Lol go to check something and stumble over something my wife posted on that is relevant to my own interests too :p
I finished the next section of my (so far very short) novel :p will it ever get finished? Who knows? But it's fun to write on receipt paper while I'm working on the checkout at work haha
- It's not really... It's are of RP characters, and while I write stories for them, I mainly use them to help improve my art so that ONE DAY I can illustrate the story I'm working on/ turn it into a comic/manga. So progress?? lol.
So far I've written 7k words in the past four days (yay!), I've written a new character that is big and loveable I didn't plan on adding, but I love him so much (think Ludo from Labyrinth or Edward from Hansel and Gretel- Witch Hunter), and I changed my plot to something I like more and that makes more sense! I'm super happy thus far, and I hope I keep this ball rolling!
My name is Kira/Erik. I'm Nonbinary, and my pronouns are They/Ze. [flower=MusicEmo]
I haven't written anything on my novel recently, but I have written up some pet stories, so that counts, right? And I've been developing my characters (or trying to) so that I can actually, y'know, write them when the time comes.
Yeah, I'd love to see more! :)
It's progress of a sort. :P
Yay! I'm glad to see it caught your interest!
Also, today I thought of a concept for a new novel!
(That means I going to have a total of three books in the works at the same time... Oh noes!)
I have been struggling with writing a lot for the past while, but just recently it feels like my brain has been opened. I have written more in the past three days than I have in a long time. I don't know if it's my new medication, or just a burst of inspiration but I am enjoying it haha!
I've created two new characters (both of which have personalities and a relationship I haven't really explored before), so I'm excited to see how much torment I can put them through because I love suffering.
- Lately I haven't even been doing that! I've been working over time on my costume for the convention next weekend. I still have an insne amount of work to do on them. I always procrastinate too much. After the convention though, maybe there will be more time to write.
I did about 19 blurbs in March, my biggest writing accomplishment in such a long time. Sadly around the second to last week of the month I just stopped writing and have not done much since.
I have been working on ideas, tweaking my concepts and adjusting characters but nothing too impressive. I do plan on reading more, which helps boost my motivation to write.
I was writing a fictional love story about a girl who falls madly in love with this man, but very quickly she learns that he is not who he says he is. I've stopped writing at the moment, but I will come back to it. The title is called Blue Moon.
I hit 13k words today!
- I would love to get more writing discussion going on, but oh buddy, I'm notorious for dropping off the face of the earth for weeks/months at a time. (I also had to read 80 essays in the span of two weeks, so that might have killed me mentally for a long time.)
Fortunately, the semester is over and I began to de-clutter my clutter and found some writing snippets. Those might get some ideas going.
So far from what I gather, a good majority of us on the board would like to write but have other things going on. Such is life. I miss the days I had deadlines from professors because that always kicked my butt into writing.
Oh hey wife. I respect your dedication to writing on receipt paper -- then typing it up later. Also, you can manage 13k words while working at your job. It took me three months to write that one roleplay reply with 7k words xD
I actually bought a little pocket notebook now! It's nearly full though so I'll need to get another one, probably on monday. I also have a lot of downtime when there are no customers haha
