I can only do simple/basic stitches so far, but I'm starting a granny square afghan, just something small for my kitties to snuggle in, lol. Then I want to do a zig zag stitch afghan for my bed. I'd like to learn to make those cute little amigurumi critters and maybe sell them on here.
Do you crochet! Show me yer stuff!
I want to make these little boogers, and from the looks of them, they don't look too hard!

I'll try to find a pic, but I make plushies too, mostly dolls of different characters or musicians for my friends. I've made an octopus before, not as cute as those though!
I have no clue how to crochet, but these are really cute though. I have pretty limited sewing skills of anything involving string or yarn. XD
Omg I'd totally want to crochet these as well! They're absolutely adorable! I'm going to take some photos tomorrow of some small things I did, I love crocheting! ❤️
I actually started with simple Amigurumi, because they're cute and I wanted to crochet these cute dogs that I then I gave to my mother and sister. xD It's quite easy to do them, so you'd definitely try! They're mostly in simple stitches, so this is a great way to learn the whole pattern etc. :D
The thing I like about crocheting is that you don't have to learn a bunch of complicated stitches to make something totally awesome. (Though you can if you want) Amigurumi, from what I've done, can all really be done with single crochets and some invisible increase/decreases. It sounds way more complicated that it is. There are tons of ways to go about crocheting though so it's been easy to find a style I like. Being left-handed, it was difficult to follow some tutorials but thankfully there are some specifically for lefties! This may make me sound like a grandmother but Pinterest has TONS of cute and free patterns to help you.
I've been trying my hand again on crocheting. I have found on a free book website have tons of books on specific crochet patterns, afghans, baby hats, shoes, toys, winter scarfs, mittens and characters like BB-8 and Princess Leia.
I'm so fudging jealous, wow. I tried my hand at crocheting once and it didn't work out. I was trying to crochet a small pouch, but it turned into this weird blob that I'm not really sure how I managed to make. I stuck with cross-stitch since then. XD
Or you know what just because those Amigurumi look so cute, I might try my hand at it again. I'm crossing my fingers this time around.
I've been trying so hard to crochet as well. For some reason I just can't seem to do it and I get so frustrated because I can't see what I'm doing wrong. I've tried online written tutorials, tutorials with images, video tutorials but nothing...
I've been looking up actual classes but no luck so far. I'm guessing it doesn't help that I'm left-handed either. I would die of happiness if I could manage to make an amigurumi figure. Even an easy one. That's my ultimate goal...
I'm glad I found this thread! Crocheters!
I actually found this tumblr very useful early on when I was first learning stuff. The gifs are very clear and since they're gifs they loop back around so you can see it all over again. Otherwise YouTube videos have helped me as well, at least when I had trouble joining in the round at first after I got the basics. I finally have it down now, and in general I feel like with crochet (vs knitting, which I learned first!) I can more easily learn and adapt and correct mistakes. I find amigurumis easy enough with the exception of the whole sewing on fiddly parts.
If you haven't checked it out already too, Ravelry is THE best place to get free (or even great paid!) patterns and to keep track of yarn and projects. Its basically like a social network for knitters/crocheters!
[tot=Galactic]I'm awful at reading and following patterns, but I've been freehand crocheting for about six years now. Don't be me. Learn it by the book.
I made a Pikachu hat. My grandma taught me when I was a little girl, and I picked it back up in high school. Youtube tutorials are your friend.

I've been crocheting for about 6 years now. (same as condescension :P) My biggest issue was trying to figure out which loops the hook went through. Haha! (I picked up knitting way faster)
Dolls, hats, and gloves are some of my favorite things to crochet. I made an octopus for my sister:
And I've made... tons more. :D I love it, but I have yet to find the courage to make even a small blanket. :) Haha!
So nice to see everyone's creations. I recently picked up some polyester yarn for crocheting but I don't know what I should be making as my first project. Can someone perhaps let me know what a good item is for a first-time crocheter? I'd be much obliged.
There's a great site called ravelry!

I am very new to crocheting too. My biggest thing is trying to read patterns. I just cant wrap my head around it.
Hey guys, I'm glad to see fellow crafters on Subeta :) I'm more of a knitter than a crocheter (self-taught for both), but I've been alternating between both hehe. Just starting to get into granny squares. I've made amigurumi bears for friends before, I'll probably post some pics to share with you guys.
Is there anything you have in mind in particular for a first-time project?
Otherwise, I'd suggest starting with a simple doll (amigurumi). They are really fun and don't require too much yarn. You can really learn basic stitches/techniques like SC (single crochet) or DC (double crochet), magic ring, and also you'll get a handle on basic shaping techniques - increases and decreases. There are some really good videos on YT that you can check out for introductions to techniques. :)

I just found out what granny square blankets were the other day (I had seen them, but never known a name for them), and I was actually thinking of making one, too. But I don't know how to crochet, especially not with a needle... I used to hand-crochet chains as a kid, though, and then I'd pull them apart so I could re-use the yarn when I was bored again.
What have you crocheted? Did you get to do your afghans and amigurumis? c:
I've been buying really cute crochet patterns off of Etsy lately. Can't wait to decorate for fall with them.

I forgot I had this thread, lol.
But yes, I've done one small baby afghan that I gave to a friend from work who just had a little girl. She went nuts over it - cried and everything. I was so proud because it was the first thing I ever really made and it turned out so nice. Now I'm working on a rainbow afghan for a friend. It's about half way done. I need to get that done for her birthday in February.
I haven't done the amigurumis though. Fall decorations sound so fun though! I want to learn thread crochet (which requires tiny needles and thinner 'yarn') which my mom does. I want to make a pretty runner for our table, and a fall-colored one would be so nice.
Haha I didn't realize you created it awhile back because the posts on it were so current.
Do you have any pictures of your work? I'm really bad about it but I love seeing what people create. It's great that your friend liked the baby blanket so much. My next projects will probably be crocheting pumpkins and autumn leaves, in addition to finishing up the scarf I started knitting for my bf last winter.
I've seen thread crochet done with embroidery floss and it's pretty.
