Background if you like to read that sort of thing and also because I like to talk.
My family is a little, young family, so we don't have a lot of our own holiday decorations, and we also can't afford to get a bunch (or supplies to make our own). We started the tradition of buying one new one every year to slowly amass decorations and get festive.
This year was different from the last three together because we now own our own house which was really exciting until we realized our house doesn't have any outlets on the outside. The only suggestion to fix it is to run a wire through a window or make a hole in the wall or something but one of the things I hate most in this life is being cold so no. So it's pointless to get more lights right now, since we can at best put a few in the window, which we've already done. We have a small child so we have to be careful about keeping them out of her reach.
So it's inside decorations, then. Except I keep forgetting that I own like, one single Christmas song and decorations are nice to put on walls and stuff but the two-year-old can touch those and there's not much space for putting stuff out of her reach because they're already covered in dragons and stuff that I want to keep out of her reach. But music, that fills a house better than decor, I don't have to shift dragons, and my kid will have a much harder time touching that. She gets on the computer if I'm away so technically she still could but it's not nearly the same as grabbing something from the top of the computer desk even though that never ends well for her.
So definitely the Christmas "decoration" I want to buy this year is Christmas music. I would also accept other winter holiday music, too (I am Christian so I appreciate the carols but I'm looking for pretty, festive music so denomination isn't important, the feel of the music is). I prefer instrumentals, in part because I'm picky about the sound of peoples' voices, in part just because I like instrumentals better. I like songs that are passionate, pretty, and/or reverent; I enjoy fun and highly secular Christmas songs too but that's not the kind I wanna own/play in my home. I'm totally okay with and often really like indie musicians - not only do they tend to be awesome, but supporting someone trying to follow their passion is always great.
The Christmas song(s) I already own is/are the Transiberian Orchestra's Carol of the Bells (and Apocalyptica's In the Hall of the Mountain King, which is always played at Christmastime but maybe is a Christmas song like It's A Wonderful Life is a Christmas movie?) - I really enjoy that rendition of Carol of the Bells, which is itself a pretty song. So with that in mind, do you have any suggestions of songs or albums to get for my festive playlist?

I grew up in the 60's (yes, I'm that old, lol), and my favorite ones from that time are: Little Drummer Boy, Snoopy and the Red Baron (Snoopy's Christmas), You're a Mean One Mr. Grinch, Christmas Time is Here (Charlie Brown) and of course the Chipmunks Christmas Song. I know they aren't exactly traditional, but they are fun.
I don't celebrate christmas, but I have the Hanson christmas cd and the Barry Manilow christmas cd because I like them both as artists. I could understand not wanting prepubescent boys singing christmas songs, but BARRY MANILOW.
My mom has an album with the Chipmunks Christmas Song, so it's still nostalgic for me. It's just also not the kind of quiet or dramatic song I'm looking for. Christmas Time is Here is one I should pick up, though, and I should pick up You're A Mean One, Mr. Grinch anyway. I mean, you can't not own that song, how do I not own it? XD
I don't know Snoopy and the Red Baron, I'll look it up on Youtub. ^_^ Thanks so much!
^_^ I'll pull 'em both up on YouTube, thanks!

If you like the Transiberian Orchestra, why don't you see if they have other Christmas music?
actually that's a good idea, thanks!

Sure.
Every year since it came out I've been listening to A Colbert Christmas: The Greatest Gift of All. Its hilarious. "Can I Interest You in Hannukah?" is sung by Jon Stewart too! And Fiest is there! Its so.... 2008. :D

I don't celebrate, so I protest with Between Angels and Insects by Papa Roach. What I do embrace is the emphasis of family and friends. I don't need any particular day to do so.
I mean sure, but some of us like to be festive. /shrug
