So while there have been some major changes recently, there have been countless little minor ones like item name changes, small formatting changes .etc that go unnoticed for a bit. I was just thinking it would be nice if there was a updated post that maybe twice a month or once a month just lists changes made on site. If you want something super organized it could be broken into sections. Anything more than that I feel would be terribly time consuming. So first post would be the most recent changes and the next few posts after just an archive of previous changes made. I feel that it would do a few things: Show some more transparency into site workings which users have asked for in the past Be an organized and central place to read up on changes instead of relying on being pinged from 2 forum groups (Siteupdates or tinyupdates) or lucky to stumble upon it. Reassure users that things are being addressed If you open it up for feedback or replies then it might reach pages and pages, but I feel that staff may also get more appreciation for extra communication.

[edit]Just to piggyback on 's previous topic about an update feed which is immediate updates about any change in a sidebar. I am for that as well. Either method or both is totally fine by me. I just want someplace to go to read about the changes. I don't like having to search them out.

Just in case please click here to view the suggestion

In essence we are both asking for better update communication as Kbbob's board is so aptly titled. One is just more immediate than the other.

when it comes down to it all, it would even be nice if we just got a filter that only showed staff posts on news comments to make things easier to find.

I also like that idea.

I'd love to see this! Especially for quiet item revamps like A lot of small things get updated and it'd be awesome to know what they are.

I remember that suggestion which moved it more in the line of like an update feed on the side similar to FR. It is similar but more immediate in a way because that would require a ping to everything. I was thinking more so just a forum topic. Like you and others mentioned the issue with the pings is not everything is pinged and the bigger the group and worse it works. A board with a link is easy and not everyone has to read. Only people who want to read it. I am one of those weirdos who would like to read it. I wouldn't have even noticed it, hahaha thank you for pointing it out.

we have that, it just doesn't get utilized in every situation because most things aren't deemed important enough.

an update feed would be much more practical imo than a new forum.

I still think if something happened like this, when something new happened, it came across the top like new news or a new announcement. that way there's no pinging, no dealing with people joining the groups. you can already turn off the announcement notification in your preferences, so something similar could be done for updates.

the problem with this is that it requires staff to utilize it, we can put something in place that is fully functional and nice, but it will only be good if staff takes time to keep it updated.

I mean like a single topic that get updated once a month. Not like a whole forum. I get what you mean though. For bigger updates yeah they should get their own topics, but for the ones not worth it, there should be a place they get at least listed. An update feed is nice yes, but I feel like it is forced the same way. As in every update get a tag to then get shown on the live feed.

it does have the same problems as a single thread, but I think it would be much more obvious when something was updated on a feed vs a single topic. Single threads with a lot of info in the first post are awful to read imo. they aren't usually organized. this gets exponentially worse if it has to be extended into a second post on that thread, because most people will stop after the first post.

a feed that shows the latest 10 or something updates with the older ones on bottom and the newer ones on top would be easier to read, then the older ones could get archived similar to news posts.

That I why I suggested the first post only be the current month and the subsequent posts be like an archive should people who want to read it have the option to. I am not against the feed but I don't think the feed is the full answer either. If we could have both great. The feed is more immediate anyways because it should be immeditaely updated while my suggestion is twice or once a month at most.

I feel like something only done monthly will be subject to more inaccuracies and things sliding through. as you said this is for small changes. small enough and they won't remember them. the best way to prevent that is to have something done right when they make the change.

I just want something centralized. I am not looking for something immediate. If your proposed update feed had an archive that went monthly instead of just listed them all then that is fine by me. Or even if at the end of the month all the update feed gets copied and pasted to a change log that is cool too. I get what you are saying about inaccuracies and sliding through but since both our methods are manual there are going to be prone to human error anyway. If it was automated I could see that also being an issue because perhaps they are making changes that they don't want public yet. I just think a twice or one monthly post to sum up what got done is less work than tagging everything.

I would be happy with anything at this point, but I don't want something to be done and either not get utilized or get done and act like a good solution but it has major flaws. I don't think it would be automated for that reason you stated, so it would be an opt in thing as long as they remember. I think it's a lot easier to remember right away though than a few weeks later. right now there are still quite a few updates that don't get pings because they forget or are just deemed not important, such as the items found on this thread it's going to take a change in staff to realize that people do want to know about these changes and honestly deserve to know about these changes in a timely fashion no matter how small and trivial, and until that change happens, a thread or a feed won't really do much. changes around the site are caused by multiple people on staff, so one person isn't necessarily aware of every change that happens.

An update feed or a monthly log would be nice. I feel like this has been suggested/promised in the past, but staff just never followed through with it? Not sure, but it would be cool. Especially for the little item revamps that happened in the past week.

I am agreeing with you 100% and I am well aware it is more than one person making changes. Assuming Subeta works like most other online interfacing company, there has to be meetings. End of the month meeting everyone goes and reports about things, or goal meetings .etc .etc I am not sure how Subeta works. If we get both solutions great, if we get one over the other great still. I just like you would like to be notified. All I really care about is the central location to get this information versus getting pinged to multiple topics. If the update feed is a page with a list of updates like friend feed, fine so be it I will read it through. I updated my first post to include your idea. I will re-edit it to include the link to your suggestion as well. I will be a happy camper when I have a place to read both big and small changes. If not every small change makes it through that is fine. But I would like more than what we currently have.

[edit] Sorry didn't think it would ping you twice

So I wrote this long post, but I erased it because it basically all boiled down to a feed idea, which I agree with. A thread that a staff member has to work to keep updated isn't what I'd want if it can be avoided. We do have things like siteupdate and things like Admin Posts but it's hard even for me to stay on track because you have to know where to look and even then, things slip through the cracks.

I am just looking for 1 place to go to. Both siteupdate/admin posts is not a one place solution. It is like pings or an area to view posts that may not even be relevant. Things will always slip through the cracks so long as any aspect of it is manual. I was just looking for something that might be less work and easy to implement. Overall the userbase is just looking to be informed.

I understand, that's why I agreed with you. I just didn't agree with a thread because, as you said yourself, "things will always slip though the cracks so long as any aspect of it is manual."

Maybe I could have worded it better, but I agree with you. ^_^

I am happy so long as there is a way for me to get all the info I need in one place. Kbbob's update feed is great too and immediate which is a bonus, but I just care that it have an archive. I would personally only check it like once a month and not every day. I am not into wearables on site so item updates don't usually affect me unless it is like a name change. I am more interested in like back end stuff.

I don't really understand what happened with the item revamps this week. I think staff said there weren't enough to justify a news post, but I think there were like 8-10 revamps that went unannounced? I would have been fine with all of those being dumped into one eclectic news post. People care enough about these things that it makes sense to call attention to them, especially when the monthly theme is supposed to be all about revamps.

I like the idea of a changelog, but not if it's only updated once a month. Posting about an update 3 weeks later doesn't fulfill the goal of keeping people informed. And if they did make a new changelog, they would really have to commit to it. We have news posts, announcements, a site updates forum, a separate siteupdates ping group, and even Keith's experimental/abandoned technical blog. Not to mention snippets of news leaked through staff posts both on the forums (which you can find if you stalk the admin posts page) and in news comments (which you often have to dig to find).

Adding another distinct news source could actually make it harder to stay up to date, unless they plan it carefully.

All those revamps weren't done this week/at once, btw. Like I posted on the "sneaky revamp" thread, sometimes only one or two things get done at a time and it doesn't really justify a news post. Everyone on that thread though wanted news post showing them all (which is hard when they go out like weeks apart like some of them have) so I plan on adding them to the news post at the end of the month when I update charlie items to match the revamped species, as a "Did you catch these revamps the past month or so?" thing. I'm going to link the thread as well in case I forget anything. :)
