LOL I started typing a huge post about my annoyance with this issue...and erased it all.
It comes down to the fact that I would support any kind of centrally available update resource/log/info.

when it comes down to it all, it would even be nice if we just got a filter that only showed staff posts on news comments to make things easier to find. that is a minor step up from what we have.
it shouldn't have pinged twice unless you deleted a ping and pinged again or pinged in different cases ie Kbbob vs kbbob I don't mind being pinged twice though :p
Oo I like that too. I am gonna add that to the first post. I am gonna smail you in a sec about something else
that might even still be handy along with a change log because staff comments tend to answer a lot of questions that get asked over and over again. okay =)
The problem is - we make a lot of changes (and some A/B testing) to get immediate feedback, collect data, and then push ahead with changes. We have a changelog (our git repo and our commits to it) but that isn't public for a reason. A lot of time we're looking to see if a change we've made has increased/decreased the stats that we're looking for, and calling those things out basically tosses that out the window.
This is one of those things that sounds great, but would be a lot more work for us, and not actually provide most users with anything that impacts their gameplay.

While I understand what you are referring to, I am talking more about like item changes, forum changes like how it links back now up top, not just the major changes. The things that aren't public for a reason shouldn't be public. But how you are changing the design of the site to be more modern even if it is slight change should be made public. Any small revamps that are one and done and not worth a news post should have a spot somewhere. Things like that. Things you are changing and testing shouldn't be on there.
I agree with . Things that affect the site and/or users, that is a permanent change, and not just something behind the scenes being tested, should have a location that we can find. Like with the revamp discussion- we should know about revamps, people shouldn't have ended up feeling like they were 'sneaky.' Or like the odds of the Omen Island map pieces dropping more often. Or maybe something really minor like a permanent font size change somewhere. Similar to how we have the siteupdate and tinyupdate ping groups (one of which often relies on users finding the change), there's news, but then there's small things that aren't really news-post-worthy, but should still kinda be known. You know?
I think this suggestion is too bossy and too petty and I do not support it. Most players don't even use the resources that we have and they DO NOT CARE nor do they need to. They're just having fun.
I've been moderator for fansites for a webcomic and I've been a boardmember for a regional non-profit and in any group with nebulous stakeholders like this there are always folks who want to know the minutiae without y'know doing the actual work. If you cater to them they end up causing so much work you start to wonder if they're part of a government bureaucracy who's brief is to clog up everything all the time always and not just for their own department.
Here's the thing: these folks are always a small minority.
Now in RL I've totally had bosses who wanted to know every last detail sometimes this was useful to them and the company and sometimes not, but that's just it. We are not here doing work. The cost to the users for this feature (if they want it) should be paid for by those users with CSC at market rates. Then I will reconsider my refusal to support this.
The main problem with the resources we have is that they are not unified. I am not asking for minutiae details or the display changes that are essentially being testing prior to being brought public. Nor am I asking for it to be instantaneous. It is twice or once a month as a quick "Hey" here is somethings you might of missed that have been changed. Does every change need a lengthy description of why it was done? No. What I am asking for is a place that lists big and small changes. As shown in the news post today and in this topic some item revamps get missed. When it is a wearable item, people like to know about it. The whole point is to prevent the need for people to have to go and look for these changes, or as a means to show proof that changes were made. Some people like to be informed, regardless of what you assume is the minority. Time and time again multiple users have asked for transparency and better communication. This is just a means of having that information. It also makes it easier for people who frequent the help boards to have a place to go and quote about changes because people ask about when things changed. The point you made about "We are not here doing the work", could be applied to users. We are not here to have to put in the work to seek out these changes. I am also just not sure what you mean by the cost to users? What incurred cost is there to post a list on a thread? If you are referring coding a live update feed then yes I can see that. However, that is not my suggestion. However in my experience as a previous payroll representative, was that when it came to the online product yeah people wanted to know about slight changes, but they didn't want to know about them all the time. Slight changes can compound into noticeable ones and can affect user interaction. As soon as it affected their interaction with the product it was a problem because they weren't notified. It the long scheme implementing a change log that wasn't pushed in their faces, but easy to access decreased the number of complaints significantly. Do you really want a ping every time there is a change? No and it is a opt in thing currently but it is not used in an optimum way. Every ping brings you to a different thread.
