So I was just curious....we get free gifts for people like David Bowie, Whitney Houston, etc. but not for other huge stars. Who decides who's "worthy" and who's not for the likes of Subeta? Does it go by who'd be popular in this genre or whatever? How's it decided? Is it personal preference of the staff?
Every once in a while people will suggest making a tribute item for someone or other in the suggestion board. When that comes up staff have basically said that tribute items are something that only get done if one of the artists personally wants to.
Considering some of the incredible and moving tribute items that have been done, I think that they might become trite if staff started making them because they thought they should, instead of because they have genuine feelings.

Maybe it depends on if the person did a lot of good,or made something that made a big impact on the planet in some way?

I remember there was no tribute for Amy Winehouse, if I recall Keith said it was because she was a terrible role model.
Then again, Whitney and MJ weren't so great at that either..
But yea, I get the impression tributes are just decided upon between staff ^_^
There aren't any set guidelines, it really just depends. I did the tribute to Terry Pratchett because he and his books have been a major influence in my life - but most of the other staff members weren't familiar with his works. When you're not personally familiar with something and know it, it can be difficult to determine what would make a meaningful tribute, so that can certainly be a factor.
