"Good afternoon, students. Welcome to another lesson in Diviniation--or as I like to see it, another lesson in mastering your Inner Eye. Previously, we spoke on Tessomancy and Oneiromancy. Today, I am going to teach you about Palmistry, which is the art of palm reading. Palmistry is very popular among Muggles, however those Muggles who boast that they have the gift to read palms often misread or misinterpret what the palm has to offer."
Professor Trelawney walked over to next to the fireplace and waved her wand. An easel with a chart of the palm appeared next to her.

"There are two different ways of reading a palm. You can either read the pattern of the lines to determine fate, or you can read the shape and size of the palm. Today, we will be focusing on what the lines of your palms have to say. Please turn your books to Chapter 7
for a reference as I talk about the different lines."She waited a moment as the students took out their textbooks and turned to the indicated chapter.
"As you can see from this chart," she said as she motioned to the conjured chart beside her, "there are four major lines on the palm: the Life Line, the Heart Line, and the Head Line. These are the ones you will be focusing on for your assignment today. However, there are several other lines that help shape our futures and fortunes, as indicated in your texts. I know some of you will be most interested in the marriage and children lines, so feel free to peruse those as well when you all start reading your palms.
"The first line you will be looking at today is the Life Line. This line starts between your index finger and thumb and curves downwards towards your wrist. A common mistake in reading this line is if it is read from your wrist to your fingers. It should be done from your fingers to your wrist. Reading this line will help you determine your well-being throughout your life, encumbering both health and mental well-being. For this line, generally if your Life Line is longer and deeper, you are fated to have good health and a long life. If your Life Line is shorter, you may be plagued by illness or an untimely death. Breaks in the line may indicate a serious illness or an accident in your future."
As she spoke, Trelawney waved her wand, and a red traced line appeared down the Life Line on her chart. Once she finished, the line faded. She waved her wand again, and the Heart Line turned red just as the Life Line had.
"The second line you will be reading is the Heart Line. This line may give some insight into your relationships and emotional states. This line starts under either the index or middle finger and extends toward the pinky. Be particularly mindful about where your Heart Line starts, as it plays a role into reading as well as length and depth."
The red line faded and another appeared over the Head Line.
"The Head Line is also known as the Wisdom Line. As you may infer, this line deals more with development both intellectually as well as intuitively. This line, like the Life Line, starts between the index finger and the thumb. It may begin either slightly above the Life Line or start in the same place as the Life Line. It then extends to the other side of the palm, either horizontally or it may slope downwards towards the wrist. Pay particular attention to the shape of your Head Line!"
The line along the Head Line disappeared.
"Take some time to read through the chapter before you begin. Once you feel you and your Inner Eye are prepared, please start with reading your palm. If you are left-handed, read your right hand. If you are right-handed, please read your left hand. I will be walking among you all to watch your progress. May you have good luck and good fortune!"
My lifeline is short and deep, which means i overcome physical problems well. My heart line is curved, which means i am a very sensitive and intuitive individual. My headline is very long, extending across entire palm. This means that i am very successful and not a coward :).

oh my god thank you so much for this. i've been wanting to get into palmistry for ages because i'm obsessed with divination. didn't know where to start. :/ i'm doing the whole thing for future ref.
Diva stared at her right (dominant) hand, taking in the many lines and shapes. She traced them very softly and began to speak. "My life line indicates that I'm full of energy. I'm not entirely sure that's true," she said with a snort. "My life line touches my bracelet line, meaning I will take anything life throws at me. I have a lot of potential, too, which is nice. I have multiple lines pointing upward, which indicates I've had a hard life, but have overcome a lot. I'm also fairly positive, which is really true! I have a single downward line, which is probably that hard time I went through."
"My heart line isn't too shabby. It's long, meaning I'm a warm person as well as deep and forked at the end. The deep line indicates a stressful life. The fork means I have a balance between emotions and common sense. My heart line ends between Mount Jupiter and Saturn, which indicates true love."
"Then there's my head line. It begins over my life line, which apparently means I have a strong will. It's long, I suppose, meaning I'm intelligent and have a good memory. It's curved, which means I'm romantic and creative. It's forked at the end, meaning I'm imaginative and enjoy debate. I'm also quite able to see both sides of an argument. However, on the flip side, my head line is chained, meaning I've had a tough life."
"I also have a Ring of Apollo, Ring of Saturn, and Ring of Solomon. The Ring of Apollo is pretty rare, and it means I have creative blocks. The Ring of Saturn is also uncommon, and that one means I'm unhappy. The Ring of Solomon, or Ring of Jupiter, means I have good leadership qualities. So one out of three..."
Diva looked even farther down her hand, to her wrist. "Then we have the bracelet lines... I have four of them. Some people think this means you can live close to 100! My first bracelet line is fairly clear, but curves and is chained. This means my early life was hard. My second bracelet line is chained, which represents financial difficulty. The third line is fairly clear, but not heavily defined. I'm not sure exactly, but I'm going to interpret that as being successful and well known but not super famous. However, my fourth line is very well defined. This supposedly mean good health."
My lifeline is long and deep, which means I have good overall health. My heart line is long, curved, and chained. That means I am open and a very warm person. I also tend to believe I am in the perfect relationship. I am very sensitive and intuitive individual. I am also very hurt and shows past depression. My headline is long, curved, and chained. It shows I am intelligent and have a good memory. I am romantic and creative and open to new ideas. I am also under going personal conflict and confusion.
Amelia Tudor, Hufflepuff
Aderyn listened intently to Professor Trelawney's preamble. She was interested in divination, but she'd never been very good at it, so she embraced the chance to read up on the subject in her textbook before beginning to divine what her palm had to say. Glancing down at her palm under the dim light in the room once she'd read the passage in her text, she bit her lip and began to read what she saw.
"The life line on my left hand is faint, long and curved, but also forks off near the beginning. This means that I may have a less adventurous life ahead of me, and that my life will be long. The fork points up toward my fingers, meaning that I will be successful in my future endeavors, and that I will be able to recover from physical and emotional insults in time."
She peered more closely at her palm, turning her attention next to her heart line.
"My heart line is long, clear, deep, and curved upward. This indicates that I am a warm, sincere, respectful person and am at peace with my emotions, which I feel to be true. This also indicates that I am sensitive and intuitive. I do often feel sensitive, but intuition does not come naturally to me. Perhaps this indicates that in the future I will develop my intuition and listen to it more closely."
"Finally, my head line is long, deep, curved, and forked. This indicates that I am an intelligent person with a great capacity for thinking things through, and that my memory is and will continue to be impeccable. I feel like these things, too, are true, and that these qualities go hand in hand with my Ravenclaw identity. The curve in my head line indicates that I am creative, romantic, and open to new ideas. Much like the way my heart line indicates intuition, so, too, does my head line. The fork in my head line indicates a philosophical outlook and being able to see both sides of an argument, which I do identify with strongly. Additionally, it also suggests I may develop any inklings of psychic ability I may have in time, which gives me the hope that one day I'll become better at divination!"
Chook gazed at her weathered, battered and scared right hand. It was the dominant one which meant it did all the hard work, wore all the blisters and copped all the punishment. The lines were there but hard to define.
Concentrating she began to look closely at the life line. It was broken and according to the palmistry guide meant many thing but the only one she could assimilate was an accident. Yes she had a bad one not too long ago but recovered rather quickly.
Then she began to examine her heart line. Again looking the guide the only one that even looked like a match was Wavy. Yes there had been many relationships and none that she let get too serious. Not because she did not want to but because she did not want to commit or make promises, that maybe she could not keep.
Lastly she gazed upon the head line. It was very long and extended across the entire palm. This indicated success and a tendency towards selfishness. Yes she thought, that is me, to the core.
"I am selfish, therefore I cannot commit, make any promises to any relationship; I have had an accident but recovered quickly. I thought this palmistry was a pile of hoggs wash, but this assignment has made me look at it in a different light.
In the words of the Monkees, "I'm a believer."

Sauvage started reading the lines on her left hand (seeing as how she was a dominant righty), the feeling of despair creeping in the longer she observed. "The life line on my left hand is broken in the middle," she said. "But it is only my left, not my right. This indicates that I will become very ill or will go through some great hardship, but that I will still recover and overcome whatever it was. My life line is also chained which suggests I am susceptible to emotional problems and that may be the reason for my broken life line later on."
She continued onto her heart line which seemed more optimistic at the end. "My heart line starts chained beneath the pinky but grows into a long, deep line that's curves upward toward my index finger. This means that in the beginning of my life relationships seem hard and leave me feeling unhappy and indecisive. As I continue down the line it grows deeper showing stress but continues on for a long time, perhaps to mean that by believing in a naïve and perfect relationship it causes me more stress? And then finally, my heart line curves and then branches upward quite steeply. With the curve, I can assume that by being honest with my feelings this will lead me to more positive and fulfilling relationships.
"Lastly," Sauvage said, still attentively staring down at her palm. "My head line. It starts chained together with my life line and then slopes downward, gradually branching off to the side. It is also very long, extending all the way down to my wrist, which means I have good intelligence and a healthy memory. This could mean that I will go - or am currently going through? - personal conflict, in regards to the chained aspect of my head line. As it slopes, this means I am idealistic and romantic and I trust my intuition to get me places. The fork at the end of my head line suggests that I am imaginative, good at writing/speaking, and that I can see both sides of an argument clearly."
She put her palm face down on her desk, feeling overwhelmed and skeptical of the information she'd just created and consumed about herself.
Sauvage / Hufflepuff
Rox stared at the lines of her palm, she was unsure what she was supposed to see in there, even after the explanation they were given. She'd better go and read the chapter about it first, cause she wasn't seeing anything in her palm for the moment. Hopefully she would be able to at least say something about her future after reading the chapter.
After reading the chapter, she stared at her palm again. Her life line seemed to be long and deep, which meant that she was in a good health and that she was well-balanced. She agreed to that as she wasn't sick very often and felt perfectly fine about her life.
She continued to look at her heart line. Her heart line was long too, which meant that she had an overall warmth. She was shy and she knew that from herself, but she also tried to be kind to everyone she met.
After that she went to study her head line. This was a short line. According to the explanation that meant that she was a practical and non-complex individual. She could definetely agree to that, cause that description fitted her most out of the readings she did so far.

Lapis Lazuli, Ravenclaw
Lapis had been willing to take some stock in oneiromancy, as it was, in it's on way, based on some hard data. Well, if one's subconscious manifestations could be considered hard data. Palmistry on the other hand?
She sighed, read through the chapter quickly, took one look at her life line and suddenly became flustered. Not quite willing to ask Professor Trelawney for help, she skipped to her heart line. Her heart line was curved, relatively clear and deep, and had a fairly distinct trident at the end. Referencing the chapter, Lapis noted on her parchment that this meant she was sincere, considerate and respectful and at peace with her emotions. She was also sensitive and intuitive with great balance between her emotional, logical and physical sides.
Heart had been the easiest, so now Lapis attempted her head line. It was long, slightly curved...with 1...possibly 2 islands. A long line meant intelligent and a good memory, while curved indicated someone creative who was intuitive and open to new things. Lapis had to flip to the index to find islands. Islands weren't favorable, symbolizing stressful periods for the person. Hrm...well, becoming an animagus had been pretty trying and stressful, so perhaps that was it.
Now onto the life line.
It was faded...seemed like it branched upwards and had either an island or a break.
Lapis' eyes began to ache from squinting so she finally raised her hand for Professor Trelawney. "What if I can't tell if my life line is broken or has an island? It's too faded to tell."

Eloise looked down at her hands, and took stock of the lines of her palms. Noticing that her life line had branches reaching above the it - glancing at her textbook and sighed a breathe of relief as she read that she would be able to overcome poor life situations, and be successful. Thankful for the positive reading, she continued to study her palm.
Her heart line was clear, deep and rather long. The text mentions that this meant she was sincere, and respectful. An overall warm person, however filled with stress. Eloise grimaced to herself at how dead on the latter revelation was. The curve of her heart line also reflected a physical and emotionally intuitive person. There also seemed to be a slight fork at the end of the heart line, which indicated life with romance would be balanced with practicality. The more Eloise read about her heart line, the more sure she was about how well she knew herself. The head line on her palm showed Eloise that she was typically a no-nonsense individual. Eloise found herself nodding in agreement as she read on...the chained and sloping characteristics of her palm meant that she was a romantic or idealistic person but was also undergoing internal conflict. Eloise placed her hands back on her lap and sat quietly, reflecting on what she had read and learned about herself. She wondered if the other students would be as haunted as she was by this lesson.Eloise Grey - Hufflepuff
Max looked at his right hand ans raised his brow. Ok he´d try to make the best of the situation. He looked at the chart the professor had given them. He should start with his life line.
He wasn´t surprised his life line was broken. It meant that he had struggles, an unexpected change or an interruption in his way of life. Furthermore his break was near his wrist area which meant that he had problems in his early childhood. You have no idea he thought to himself.
Sighing Max turned the page to look at his heart line.
His heart line was broken but branched upward. That meant that he was stressed emotionally and he had mood swings. He also suffered from emotinal trauma. The upward branced meant he had strong interest in the opposite/same sex and good and positive relationships.
Next Max looked at his head line. It was long, straight and deep. That indicates that he is a versatile complex individual but also has a an excellent memory concentration and sensible memory.
Max tried to focus on the smaller line next. He noticed his relationship line was well defined and longer that meant that he had the ability to commit in in long-term relationships. Ok maybe that was true he told himself it´s been 3 years he was in a relationship with his boyfriend.
Max noticed he had also rings and mounts. He had the ring of Solomon which meant he had strong leadership qualities. Next he noticed the markings on his hands. He noticed some upward branched markings. Those meant that he was able to overcome some of life´s roadblocks through his own determination.
Max leaned back into his chair. His arms crossed over his chest he tried to surpress a yawn.

EROS SIGURD - SLYTHERIN
Eros was ambidextrous so he just randomly picked a hand. He held his left hand out, open in front of him. The first line he examined was his Life Line. He followed the line from his finger to wrist and noticed two things. First, there was a break in his line, closer to the wrist. Eros dropped his hand for a moment to look at his textbook, Chapter 7. "If there is a break near the wrist area in the line, it can indicate problems in early childhood," he read to himself. He picked his hand back up with a sad look in his eyes as he remembered how his whole world changed when his dad died. Eros pushed the emotions away and focused back on the line. The second thing he noticed about his Life Line was that it branches downwards, extending up and above the life line. This indicated that he had issues, but...eventually things would be okay. Eros didn't doubt that. He would make things okay. It was his purpose in life right now.
The other line that Professor Trelawney mentioned was the Heart Line. Eros really didn't care, but he examined it anyway. It was very long and there was an upward branch. He flipped the page in his book to decipher its meaning. "Very Long. When the lines touches blah blah blah, it shows signs of co...co-dependency toward their partners? POSSIBLE PROMISCUITY? What?," he scoffed and shook his head. First of all, he was only fifteen. He had ONE girlfriend so far and they broke up last year. He's been single since. I am NOT co-dependent, he assured himself. "Branched upward. Represents a strong interest in the opposite sex and has good and positive relationships..." Eros sighed. Maybe palm reading wasn't all that it was cracked up to be. The whole section about the Heart Line was rubbish to him. He moved on to the next line.
His Head Line, like his Life Line, was very long. This meant he would be successful and was not a cowardly person. However, he may have the tendency to be selfish. Eros didn't like that last part, but he continued reading his line. His Head Line also had crosses. "These indicate the vital and crucial decisions made in one's life that can have a direct impact on your fate in your life." Eros stared at the book, confused. He wasn't sure what that meant. He studied the line on his hand again before skimming the book again to read about crosses. "Might even be sign that adversaries want to cause harm to the individual. May also represent outside influences that may be causing stress." Eros leaned back in his chair and flipped his book close. He stared intently down at his open hand before closing it into a tight fist.
Demeogo looked at Caleb who was right beside him. "Forgot your book as usually Caleb?" said Demeogo not surprised. "Hey, let me borrow yours!" He grabbed it and looked at his life line. "See it says I have good health, stamina and I'm well balanced, HA! Probably means I'm going to live a long healthy happy life." said Caleb proudly. "Just because it says you have a healthy life doesn't mean it will be a happy one," said Demeogo doubtful. "Hey read out your Life, Heart and Head line." said Caleb quickly.
"Well..my lifeline is forked and branched. Forked means a change in life and it forks with the mount of moon which means I might travel to far off places." "Good anything to be away from me," said Caleb. "Please you need me! Without me how would you be able to do you homework?" asked Demeogo. "Hey! I just left my book in this one girls dorm, it was one night!" said Caleb defensively. "Sure it was," said Demeogo looking at the book still.
"It says for heart line, chained and double forked. Chained means easily hurt, indecisiveness and depression in their lifetime. He flashed back to the time when he went to Hogsmeade and they called his family murderers. He tried to shake it off. Double forked means..life combines romance with practicality and common sense."
"Now for head line..straight, which means realistic, down to earth, unimaginative, logical, blah blah and great attention to detail!" "All I heard was unimaginative. Ah, here we are!" said Caleb pulling a blueberry muffin from his bag. "Why do you have that?" asked Demeogo curious. "You haven't eaten today have you?!" said Caleb maliciously. Then Caleb took the muffin and tried to stuff it into Demeogo's mouth. "EAT IT EAT IT!" said Caleb trying to find an opening in Demeogo's arms which he couldn't. "Hey, Professor Trelawney are me allowed to have food near our books?" asked Demeogo desperate for the muffin to disappear. Caleb put it into his mouth and mumbled, "Spoil sport," to which a few crumbs lay on the table.
Demeogo, Ravenclaw.
Sam chewed her lip as she attempted to compare the lines on her palm to the diagrams in the book. Finally she shakily traced the outline of her hand on a piece of parchment, then attempted to draw in the lines as she saw them on her palm. The deep clear lines she drew in black, then watered down her ink to scratch the fainter lines in gray. As art it was pretty awful, but it made it easier to figure out the lines as she compared them to her book.
My lifeline is long, with one break one third of the way down it's length, and forked near the the base of my thumb. One fork continues clear around the base of my thumb almost to the back of my hand, the other ends shortly after it splits. I can expect have a serious illness or injury, and a major life changing event later in life.
My head line is long curved and deeply forked, which indicates I tend to think things through, am open to new ideas and enjoy debates. I like to look at both sides of an argument.
My heart line is braided, curved upward, and fairly long, which indicates I am an open, warm, and sensitive person, but I let my feelings get hurt a lot.
The "Croix mystique" between my head and heart lines indicates that I have the potential to be a very skilled witch, but it is still very faint, so I have a lot of improving to do still.
Professor Trelawney walked around the room, surveying students as they read their palms and consulted their texts. She noted which students were working diligently and which had not yet started and scribbled down their names to award their House Points.
She noticed Lapis Lazuli ask a question and turned toward the girl.
"Perhaps you have not quite honed into your Inner Eye enough to fully see what your palm can offer to you, child," she said, a little more harshly than intended. She softened her tone. "However, both broken life lines and life lines with islands in them signify similar characteristics, which may make it more difficult to decipher. Perhaps treat it as both."

Katsumi ranked Divination among the least pleasant of her classes. Sight or not, Professor Trelawny always seemed to be putting on a show, and that hurt her credibility in the girl's eyes. Not to mention how /inaccurate/ most predictions seemed to be. Still, she kept her opinions to herself while in class, and opened her book to work on the assignment. She looked at her left hand, examining the various lines, and checked with the text frequently.
"My life line is short, and not particularly deep. I wouldn't call it faint or shallow, either, though, as it is well defined. It's somewhere in the middle, depth wise, and the book isn't clear on what this means. My guess is that it means I am able to be influenced, but can also overcome problems. Mine has a faint branch above, meaning I can recover from things, but it goes downwards, a rather negative sign.
"My head line is curved, so I'm creative and idealistic. It also means I'm romantic, but the book is unclear if they mean in the literary or emotional sense. Either way, I have a good intuition and an open mind. It's long, so I consider carefully, and keep my head. Mine ends in a fairly strong fork -- more of a trident, really. This means I'm imaginative, and will use my literary, oratory, and psychic powers throughout my life. Tridents are lucky in general -- they increase the aspects of the lines they are on, and lead to happiness, health, and wealth. I also seem to have a star, which is generally a good sign. But there are also islands -- three of them, actually. I don't think it's small enough to call a chain. That indicates stress and disruptions.
"My heart line is very much curved. The text claims this means I'm sensitive, emotional, and so on. It certainly doesn't mean I express my emotions openly, in my case. It branches strongly downward, indicating unhappiness and heartbreak. It's deep, so my life is stressful. Hm, I suppose excitement can mean stress, but it's more of a good stress. It's a bit wavy, which can mean either many or a lack of relationships. Branches going downwards off it indicate negativity, and a loss of control.
"It appears that I have two Rings of Saturn. Double, or sister lines, often indicate extra strength of whichever line they appear by. This ring can mean someone who is too serious -- I'll give you that. I wouldn't call myself a hermit, though, and I'm certainly not depressed or pessimistic, as it should mean.
"My first bracelet line is clear, indicating good health. But it bows upwards, indicating problems, setbacks, and pain. My second line is bowed slightly, which may mean the trials last a long time. It is also chained, potentially meaning financial trouble or unhappy times.
"My third line is faint, so I probably won't be very well known. It also seems to have either a sister line, or maybe be forked, but...I'm pretty sure that's a marking from the watch I was never without over break."
The way some people spell makes me wonder about their pronunciation. My CW shop, and my ping group
Jamie was right-handed, and thus raised her left hand to investigate the lines that ran across the palm.
“My life line is broken,” she noted, “which could indicate losses and unexpected change. My mother died before I went to Hogwarts, so I believe this is an indication of this loss in my life. This line also has some tassels, which indicates an emotional decline.”
Quickly she moved to her next line.
“My heart line is deep, straight and parallel to the head line, which means I have a very stressful life, but that I am an emotionally stable individual.” She wasn’t quite sure about the last part, but she knew better than to question these things. “Lastly my heart line has, what looks like a triangle, indicating that I have the ability to analyze situations effectively.”
“My head line is long, which means that I am intelligent and have a good memory. It also seems to be branching upwards, indicating that I positive outcomes and success in my future career, as well as academics and creativity.” She laughed; “Well, I am a Ravenclaw after all!”
Selma James, Ravenclaw
Gwen looked at her hand and then back at the pages – She mumbled under her breath “hmm… I hope this doesn’t spell out a short life for me”
“My life line – it looks to me to be both faint at places and yet at the end it is very deep. Maybe this means that as I age I will have a more smooth life and find myself more. It branches off on different places, two larger branches. The one on the top goes more down and the one at the bottom goes up. I have a few grilles on the top of my line. When I was younger I did have a few problems that changed a lot of how I looked at things.
My heart line is long and the deepest line I have. I am open and warm but will have a lot of stress (this seems true). It curves with no real branches, which can say that I express my emotions easily… Maybe that is why I can cry at the drop of a hat.”
Gwen sighs; everything seems pretty spot on so far. It is not always fun to see these things about yourself though. Nothing says for a fact that a romantic loving relationship is in her future.
“Well on to my head line. Although it is long it is actually very faint, which means that I am smart but a daydreamer. It branches off slightly (very tiny branch) going upward) but overall it is a basic line.”
Gwen looks at the minor lines, she cannot see most of them, but she does notice she has some bracelet lines…
“I can see two; my first one goes all the way across but it does have a grid-like pattern. My second one is only about halfway and is very faint. I think this means I will not have financial prosperity.”
Gwen shuts her book and looks around the room. She wonders what the others have found out.
