Whether it be playing video games, drawing, listening to your favorite artist/band, or even playing on Subeta for hours, how did you get into it? (I figured this would be a little easier to get to know people than the Looking For Friends board as well, since people tend to be ignored over there).
I can say I got into the television show Futurama in 2006 and have been hooked ever since. A best friend of mine at the time loved it and I only really seen it a couple of times. He got me to watch it more than usual and I realized how much I was missing out. Not to get into too much detail but something terrible happened and we don't get to talk anymore... and I wish we could everyday to this day. Now I watch it all the time and sometimes when I watch it, I think of him, and miss him. It's my favorite show ever made, and I thank him for showing me what I could've missed out on.
(Hurt to share some of that. Sorry. Not entirely comfortable with sharing everything either, but I feel better knowing I can say some of that out in the open. Sorry for turning it into such a downer as well. No really, this is a positive thread I swear!)

I got into doll collecting because of some little kid in 2010 introducing to monster high dolls. I seen them at work and this kid informed me that Frankie was not a zombie. I have tons of MH dolls now. Plus a few other odd dolls like Pinkie Cooper and La Dee Da dolls. I was never into Barbies as a child and still dislike Barbie. Bad thing about doll collecting is space and storage.
Got into most of the other things I'm into through my friends, namely Doctor Who and all other shows of that nature.
But my super-fandom of Celtic Woman I started on my own when I saw them singing on PBS and was hooked immediately. You know of love at first sight? That's how it was. Now it's about 8 or 9 years later, I've been to 7 of their concerts, have all of their albums, and don't intend on stopping any time soon.
I am also a huge supporter of Sea Shepherd. First found out about them through the show Whale Wars (and I get really, really testy when someone makes fun of them or the show, so fyi). Then I went on their website and found out more in depth about them. I wish I could support them financially or actually volunteer for their campaigns, but I'm broke and stuck geographically where I am at the moment. But I do spread the word through social media and talk about it to whoever gives me an opening. I also wear a silver whale tail on a chain.
Doughnuts. My last summer as a "teenager", I spent with a best friend staying up all night and coordinating meet ups (through Xanga and AIM) with him at the bakery to play MTG every morning when they opened. After that summer I got my first 'real' job making doughnuts and breakfast items at a gas station down the street from my house. Now I'm the doughnut.
Where would I even begin o.O
This past year I have really began to find out my true interests. I started dating my current boyfriend and he opened up my world and made me really positive and confident in what I do. I've began hoopdancing which has been really fun finding a community to practice new moves and teach each other. I've always started up painting on canvas with acrylics which is so relaxing omg. I'm pretty big on cooking now and hiking. So i watch a lot of travel channel and cooking network hehe. mouth waters Lastly, since my boyfriend is a trans* male I spend a lot of time volunteering for LGBTQA+ groups and camps which is such a blast!
If any of these spark an interest in you, please feel free to add me or just chat in general :3 <3
I'm a little obsessed with Miley Cyrus. In 2010 I saw an interview on a British music programme called T4 which was when I started listening to her music - think 'Can't Be Tamed', not 'Hannah Montana'!
Later, when she released her Backyard Sessions (2012), I started following her more as a celebrity, interested in not only her music, but also her as an individual. I've been a big fan ever since really, and I can't fully explain what I find so captivating. Ultimately, it's the music that keeps me attached, but I appreciate what she stands for and respect - and often agree with - her opinions.
Apart from that, things like TV shows have been introduced to me by friends (Game of Thrones and Pretty Little Liars being two examples!), but I'm also a big fan of movies of all genres, and that manifested itself around 16 - I'd buy DVDs at a cheap second hand store in the town near my school and built a pretty strong collection, I'd say 300+! I still love films - probably more than tv shows, which I can never seem to keep on top of.
I've been drawing for most of my life, not much to say there. I've gotten into making art dolls, this is an on and off thing for me usually but lately I've been all over it, but I'm not so much into collecting them, there's probably only two that I would really like. The first one I did, it was weird because I based making the head the same way people make fursuit masks with the plastic canvas, instead of sculpting it. Then I saw some other art dolls on DA and made one that turned out pretty well, I also made one for one of my friends in trade for a book, this was back in 2009. Then I stopped for awhile and then made a couple in late 2012, early 2013 and stopped again until the end of last year when I made one for someone. And after that I was hit with loving making them and really want to keep doing that. Sometime soon I want to try to make some bjds too.
oh boy, where do i even start. xD
basically i've been writing ever since i could. i actually still have some of the stories i used to write in elementary school, about dogs and magic and that sort of stuff. but then around fourth and fifth grade i kind of stopped, not so much because i had lost all interest, but because i got really into pokemon games and just played those all day. then when i was 11 i moved to venezuela and hated it, since i didn't have any friends and the kids at school made fun of me and all sorts of other nasty stuff. so i decided to make up stories to distract myself and retreat into a fantasy world. because i loved making up those stories, i constantly tried to tell them to my parents (since i didn't have anyone else to tell them to) but they usually just told me to shut up or that they didn't want to hear them. so, with my 'i don't need anyone!1!!!1!' attitude, i just decided to start writing them instead.
and realized that i absolutely love writing, and haven't stopped since. |D
I am a massive reader and always have been. My mum read books to me when I was very small and I then read them to my brother when he was born. I basically haven't stopped since! I did a degree in literature but have realised since then that what I love about reading is the escapism. I'm not sure it was of all that much benefit for me to study it in detail...but I suppose it can be argued that studying any of the humanities or arts makes you more open-minded and empathetic, and therefore can't ever be a bad thing! ANYWAY.
As for my online habits, this started when I was 11 and joined Neopets. Neopets lead on to DeviantArt, Furcadia and Subeta. I have now left all of those sites except for Subeta but I got a lot out of them.

I absolutely love to read. I have an entire library that takes up my bedroom. The walls are pretty much lined with various bookshelves, of course none of them match, filled with well used books. I even have two leather bound books that I got on clearance(Dante's Divine Comedy and Fyodor Dostoevsky's Crime and Punishment.) The Divine Comedy is even illustrated!
I'm also really into embroidery. I do it by hand because the machines get expensive, and I'm pretty broke. I do my own patterns. It's tons of fun, although it can be a time suck. Especially cross-stitching. So much time spent cross-stitching.
Paintball.
My husband wanted to see how we could do together as a team, and it was our first time playing it. The field was pretty far out into the woods and at first, my husband and I were the only ones playing. I was nervous about how it would feel when I got hit, and lo and behold, the very first shot, he got me in the neck. But my adrenaline was pumping, and it just fueled the urge to get him back the next round. :P
Then, later, there was only one other player who arrived and he was a very seasoned veteran of the sport. He wiped the floor with us both. Haha.
But he was a cool dude and gave us some pointers on how to play better. I managed to get him during a game of 2 on 1. He had a great sense of sportsmanship and he even went off to coach some little kids that came for a birthday party later that day.
I just loved the strategy behind effective movement and the adrenaline rush it gave me, and I've been hooked ever since. The only negatives of it are: Usually, the fields are quite a distance away to drive to where I am, and it's not a cheap recreational sport.
I love it anyway.

One of my biggest interests would be witchcraft, the occult, you know that stuff. I guess what really got me into it was when I walked into a shop that sold things like tarot cards and crystals and I instantly fell in love with the vibe it gave off, I felt safe there and thought to myself. I want to make others feel that same safety too. A small part was my mother used to be into it too (not so much anymore) and she still has these books of spells and things and knows how to do tarot readings.
Another one of my interests (don't worry I'll stop after this) is gaming. When I was younger I'd watch my brother play things like resident evil and metal gear solid on the ps1 and I just loved it. I loved how creative the worlds were, the characters, the stories. I love how easy it was to switch on a console and just escape from everyone.
(sorry for the life story)
I've been a huge fan of Pokemon and animation for a while now. I got into Pokemon because of a Raichu card on TV; not because of friends, not because of the anime, but because of a single card on TV. And I got it; but I've lost it since. ;-; As for animation, I got into it because of Walt Disney and Don Bluth. Gravity Falls and cartoons from the past are another reason why. ;w;
I may be weird, and I may be crazy, but I'm also a DRAGON! 🐉
Futurama is my favourite show of all time. :-) I used to watch the Simpsons as a kid (like, I still know the words to every episode, it's a little humiliating), and so when Futurama came out and was made by the same creator, I was all over it. I love it even more as an adult. Like, every time I watch an episode I like it that much more (unless it's one of those episodes that just turns me into a puddle of tears). As far as hobbies go, I spend most of my time knitting and crocheting. My mom crocheted a lot when I was a kid (she'd make blankets while she sat in the waiting room when I was in ballet classes), so I asked her to teach me a couple years ago so that I could continue the craft and make handmade gifts (which I LOVE to do). About a year after I learned how to crochet, I asked my Mother-in-Law to teach me how to knit, since she's ALWAYS knitting. I kind of wanted to take the fiber craft of both mothers and combine them, since we're one big happy family now lol. I'm way better at crocheting (since it's a lot easier for me), but I think I might like knitting more. :-) I'm very sad that there aren't any yarn/knitting/crocheting items for avis on this site yet!
Ohhh this is interesting. I'm going to talk about a few because the stories behind them makes me laugh now.
Drawing: Back when I was in elementary school, I was hanging out with a friend from the neighborhood. We wanted to make money, so like any other little kid, we had a Lemonade stand. At the end of the day, she took all the money without letting me have a penny of it. I was absolutely furious. I stormed up to my room and just looked at one of my Ty beanie babies (pretty sure it was Snip the Siamese cat if memory serves correct!) I then began to draw it and colored it. I decided it looked pretty decent, so I drew a few more pictures. I then sold the picture of Snip and one other picture to my grandma for $1 a piece. I figured this could've been my way of "income". In the end, I never sold any more pictures and continued to draw more because I thought I wasn't half bad at it. And now drawing is my hobby.
Clarinet: I haven't played my clarinet in a good while, but the story still makes me laugh. When I became a sixth grader, my mom asked me if I wanted to join the school band. I turned down the offer. Then I get into sixth grade, and I absolutely hated some of my extra classes, such as Current Events. Because of having a dumb schedule, I decided to join band in seventh grade. I took lessons before the school year began so I wouldn't be too far behind, and turns out that band became my favorite class of the day. I became pretty decent at the clarinet and have made some of my best friends through band class. All because I had a really stupid schedule during sixth grade xD
My other interests don't have as interesting stories as these two.
I posted here before, but realized I never said anything about kayaking, and holy shit I love kayaking.
A couple of years ago, my friends invited me to go kayaking with them at a local park/river. I was scared at first, honestly, because as soon as I got into this little boat and started paddling out onto this huge, deep river, I had that moment of 'holy shit what am I doing'. But I got over it really fast and not 50ft down the river my friends were yelling at me because I couldn't shut up over how much fun it was, lmao. Now I'm the first one to start bugging them to go in the summer as soon as the weather gets decent. In fact, we're going tomorrow. XD
The reason I started drawing was because when I was around 7, I really wanted to befriend this girl from my class. She was really into horses and one time she complimented my drawing of a horse, and asked me to draw her favorite horse called Nougat. From then on I worked my butt off trying to get good at horses so that she would like me (I was a very lonely unsocialized kid), and found that I really liked drawing in general.
Most of the time, its because someone else was doing it, and I though I can do that! and picked it up and started working at it, that is the only reason I know how to draw, Play the ukelele and how to vacuum a cat.
I'm kinda psyched that the first 2 things listed are Futurama and dolls, because I love both those things. But I came into this thread to talk about dolls, because I suppose that's my most "out there" interest.
My first year of college I made a friend who had ball jointed dolls. I loved them! So pretty and customizable and cute. And...so, so expensive. Much later, after exploring the "world" of dolls more, and after getting a job so I could actually buy things, I discovered the less expensive but absolutely stunning Pullip family. I was immediately head over heels for Dal Sakura. About 2 years later I have about 10 dolls altogether, mostly Jun Planning/Pullip dolls, a Blythe, a Tangkou, and I've recently ordered my very first real BJD (bringing it back around). I got myself a Minifee Celine from Doll Fairyland for a "hey, you finished a semester of grad school and lived" reward :3

You know when I really break it down a shit ton of my intrests are really ingrained into each other. Way ack when I was just a kid in like grade 8 someone from my school mentioned Invader Zim and drew a doodle in my notebook so I went home and watched it on the internet. From Invader Zim I got into the comic JTHM which was played panel by panel on youtube to the songs of Creature Feature. Listening to Creature Feature got me into gothic rock which pushed me to listen to Harely Poe, introducing me hardcore into the world of Punk music which links up to almost every band I listen to. Six years later Invader Zim is out as a comic, I have a tattoo reminding me of the old show and everything regarding space catches my attention. I enjoy Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, Futurama, Doctor Who, and Star Trek. Absolutely everything I like is heavily linked and integrated into my world.
