It used to be that whenever I ctrl-clicked on a link on this site, the link would load in a new tab, but my browser would keep showing the same tab it was on. That's still the case with most of the links, but several of the buttons now make my browser switch to the newly-opened tab. For the record, I am using Google Chrome, and I do not have any ad-blockers.

Places this is happening:

  • The "BUY" and "SEARCH" buttons in Shop Search
  • The images of items in NPC shops
  • The "START QUEST!" buttons (tested for Maleria and Carl specifically)
  • The "SIR, YES SIR!" and "FINISHED" buttons for Major Drills
  • The "Train your Pet" and "[pet name] is Done!" buttons in the Training Center

Since this is only happening in a select few places, I'm guessing this change was made on purpose? Either way, I personally find this rather aggravating. If I'm trying to buy more than of a certain item through Shop Search, it now takes significantly longer because I'm constantly having to switch tabs and/or close tabs to get back to the shop search page.

In Preferences, there's an option for "Open sCode links in a new window/tab." Could there also be an option for whether or not your browser switches to newly opened tabs, too? Though I think the best option would just be to switch it back to how it was.

I think this is probably browser-related because like in FF I can't even ctrl + click the buy buttons in the Shop Search

It's strange though, because it does still work the same for some buttons. Like, the "START QUEST!" button is acting weird, but the "FINISH QUEST" one is working like normal. I have no trouble with any of the Battle Quest buttons, but all the Major Drills buttons are acting weird.

Sounds like something changed on your end. I've been middle-clicking (which does the exact same thing as ctrl + click) all day and it hasn't automatically switched over to the new tabs.

And for what it's worth, I've also never been able to open the shop search Buy buttons in new tabs.

Looking to buy this!

NEVERMIND

I just tried the examples you are referring to and you are right I can't. I think it was coded that way then.

Yeah, those are pretty much the same buttons that don't work for me in FF. Seems like Chrome probably updated so whatever coding Subeta uses for those buttons doesn't work with ctrl + click anymore :x

I can't use middle click for the SS buy buttons either, but ctrl-click works. It's just that now it's making me switch to the new tab instead of letting me stay on the SS page.

When you do that, does FF switch to displaying the new tab, or does it continue showing you the tab you were on?

I misread your example and thought you mean just like buying something from a shop, not the actual buy button. You are right that the ctrl+ click doesn't work.

i thought this was browser-related (as i had just updated chrome), but i'm getting similar issues in firefox, which makes me think it might be subeta. also, i have yet to notice this same issue on any other site that i use.

i've noticed this primarily in questing (it seems to affect the "start new quest" button, but not the shop search button under each requested item), and especially in pet training. ctrl+click has been extremely useful to me in training my pets, as i have 8 who share the same training time and finish up/need to be enrolled at the same time.

I think this belongs more in the P&B forum. But yeah, I noticed this a couple weeks ago when I started BQing again. If I start battling too long without clicking away from the battle I am unable to right click on anything. I figured it was just like the Beta Wardrobe, where I can only use it for 10 minutes before it refuses to connect with the servers to pull images. xD So I'm used to just opening a new tab and heading to the same URL if I'm busy doing something on a page for awhile.

If this is intentional then of course I'm against it because I don't even know the purpose of not allowing that. [edit] This post is so irrelevent it hurts.

If this is a change I'ma cry... it made hoarding and training so much less ridiculous, both of which are things subeta wants me to do considering there's so much site support for hoarding (RB, Fragging, old items being needed for achievements, etc) and sP sinks.

If this change was purposed-- then less emphasis needs to be put onto holding onto 500 copies of an item, and my pet's all need to be automatically removed from training sessions regardless of them being autotrained or not :I Otherwise uuughhh. Stupid chrome ;n;

What you're describing sounds like something else entirely, actually. Dunno what's going on for you but that sounds at least 5x more annoying than my issue. Out of curiosity, what browser are you using?

lol I realized after I posted that I think they are different things. You can tell my reading comprehension is fantastic! :P I actually don't mind the opening in a new tab in some instances because otherwise I forget to check, but I mean, that's the only reason I can see for having it, which I don't think is enough reason to force users onto the new tab.

Wow, still can't get over my inabilty to read. Oh! I'm using Chrome, btw. My inital problem happens to me in FF too, though. It's probably a computer issue, but nothing ever happens on any other site so, yeah. xD

I still don't think this is a subeta problem, because it's been happening to me ever since I switched to FF :L

How long ago was that? This issue just started happening to me today.

Also, it still kinda is a Subeta problem, because the HTML code ultimately decides the way in which a link works, not just the browser.

i'm curious, have you updated chrome recently? i haven't noticed this issue until today either, but i just updated my browser. i'm wondering if it's the same for you as well, or if you're getting it without an update.

Since the beginning of September. Like I know that the coding has to do with it, but I think it's more that something isn't meshing with the browser rather than it just being a Subeta issue, since as I said, it's been different in different browsers for ~6 months at least. That's just when I started using FF so I don't know about anything prior to that :L

I think this is probably a Subeta issue... I use Safari and I can't command (same as the PC's control) + click certain links. I'm going to assume it's intentional to prevent users from mass buying a ton of items in SS at a time very quickly.

It's also an issue when starting training in the training center, which is inconvenient because I have to individually go though and select train for all of my pets instead of command + clicking through them quickly and just clearing the extra tabs. I have 12 pets that finish at the same time, so starting all their sessions again one at a time is a huge pain.

Soo... I'm not sure if it's intentional or not. It would be nice if staff could weigh in on this issue.

As far as I know, I haven't updated it recently. But I did have to let Windows install some updates on my laptop today, and Chrome might've taken advantage of that to auto-update or something? It says I'm up-to-date, anyways.

Dang browsers, being all confusing and different. Though I am surprised there'd be that significant of a difference between Chrome and FF for opening new tabs like that. To my knowledge, it's relatively simple to say "open this link in this fashion specifically instead of the default." I don't know exactly how Subeta is formatted, though.

Yeah this isn't subeta related at all. I hadn't updated chrome and I wasn't having this problem, then the second I updated-- this started.
