Most of the TNT staff at Neopets got laid off today, so you might expect a lot of users coming over here. No one knows why, but the company was recently sold to Jumpstart.
Just because they laid people off doesn't mean they are shutting down the site What sense would that make investing all that money and some for the new app they had made for the site
People are over reacting it's ridiculous

Wooooowww.. I got stuck playing JumpStart games as a kid. That whole website is going to get scrapped and rehauled into an educational monstrosity D:
The users there have every right to be upset. And there's been enough of an uproar that has caused players to start leaving.
Subeta is one of many sites that will see a surge of new players for the next couple months or so. It's important for our community of active, longtime players to welcome these new users and encourage them to stick around.
I know, I know. Y'all got some weird "ugh newbs" attitude, or at least some do. Get over it and help out over on the Welcome/Introductions forum. We might as well take advantage of Neopets' falling out and attract new players to hopefully benefit our site in the longrun.

Did I ever once say I was annoyed at the fact there will be new users? No. I'm a long term user and still am of neopets it's annoying at the fact no one thinks before they caused an uproar about the site shutting down when it's clearly not.

Yeah, the site might not be shutting down, but that doesn't mean it's in very good shape. It seems something new goes wrong every day. Right now you can't even access user lookups. The lag goes from moderate to just plain intolerable within minutes. Who knows when we're going to get news updates again, with most of the content team gone and all.
So do I think the site is going to shut down? No, probably not. But do I think it's going to improve any time soon? At a very slow rate, at best. I remember finding Subeta when Neo was going through the Viacom transition. I fell in love with the Galactic and Spectrum Festers and joined immediately. It's not unreasonable to believe that others seeking more stable game play will come our way.
...
cheer up people. we will be at the advantage of neopets incompetence and secretive attitude. embrace it :)
it is no one's fault for speculating when the site itself keep quiet until it is too late before releasing official statement.
and welcome to new users :)
This is very important to remember right now. Everyone was a new player once, and many (if not most) of us started out on Neopets. Just posting a quick welcome on the Welcome/Introductions forum is a really nice gesture and it will make new players much more likely to stick around.
If you don't want to post and you're feeling generous, you can even send over a little welcome package using the gift center with a couple inexpensive items that may help a newbie start off their wardrobe, etc. I've sent out a few that cost less than 10k sP and they've been hugely appreciated, which is a nice feeling for me too! :)
Cool, I should go over there and lend high end avatar items for referals 😇

I don't think the question is whether we'll be nice to Neo transfers (so many of us were Neo transfers after all), but whether our servers will be able to handle any kind of influx of users. The site gets grumpy at 2k users, after all.
I don't want to discuss the things that go on over there too much, but we did get some information yesterday from a higher up that they don't plan on shutting down the site.
I don't mind getting new users here, what I do mind is anyone that plays over there and on here telling people to come here because of no/little lag. Subeta has lag every event and we've got one coming up soon. I don't mind that they mentioned other things like the pets and freedom of speech and things like that. I just mind that it seemed like the lag was one of their main points.
Not to mention you aren't even supposed to discuss other sites over there, but that's a whole 'nother story.

So that explains the recent addition of members to the site... it's disappointing though because I used to love Neopets a while back. But I guess I'm lucky I left the site before all the problems occurred.

Art by because they are not shutting it down doesn't mean they haven't killed it
they may very well have made the purchase for the tens of millions of emails, a lot of visual content / art, an immersive universe and flash games but not really care about the current form of the website, and eventually end up changing it into just another jumpstart game

I'm pretty sure the majority of the players over there don't even know about Subeta. :o Most of are just kids who grew up playing Neo and never really ventured away from it.
Sad. I still love my Xweetoks but I can't do anything with their pet pages anymore 'cause everything is disallowed nowadays over there. Still, a big welcome to any new Neo refugees! I was definitely one myself.

Any users who cared at all about integrity or decent staff/policies already left neopets like ten years ago. That ship has sailed.
Yeah, I left Neopets while I was in high school. For reference, I'm in my sixth year of college. It's been nearly a decade...
I actually went back over there in November just for nostalgia's sake, and even with a computer at least ten times more powerful than I had growing up, I still found the site - particularly the Flash content - incredibly slow. I wonder if they're ever going to revamp the site, because it seems like it's running on ancient code that modern browsers struggle to work at.
I still log into my neo account every now and then because those pets have turned into some of my best developed and most loved characters. And I like Neoquest II. But my question is how do you guys communicate with staff over there? I have vague memories of staff way way way back but I don't remember much of them talking to the (massive) userbase?
The site has been very laggy since the takeover and it has gotten way to kiddish for me. I'll never delete my account b/c I've been on neo for over 14 years. I have lot of great memories with the site but it is sad that it will never be like it used to.
