I have just joined this site tonight. I have several friends and family who have played Subeta in the past several years ago, and decided to finally give it a try myself. I have avoided doing so after attempting to register three weeks ago and being greeted with broken images. Finally, after realizing that this was not to change, I signed up anyways. I attempted on both Internet Explorer (ech), and Firefox, and both are greeted with the same issues. I have never been a safari user, and am not interested in Chrome. Thus these results are based on Firefox and IE only.

First I am met with: IE: Firefox:

I am able to choose skin color, eye style, eye color, mouth and nose style, and clothing style. The hair and hair color are blank, and every page, whether I can view it or not, shows the broken images because of the hair. I choose a random hair color and hair style.

After creating a random avatar in firefox, my preferred browser, I am greeted with the following first welcoming page. Definitely not an attractive beginning in a site that is supposed to be focused on images. I havent even made it to the flash games! I would think that jpegs and pngs would be easy coding for a website to accomplish. My hopes on a fun new virtual pet site to play is diminishing immediately.

I create a pet and click her profile to see her stats. I am slightly disappointed to realize that gender does not exist for pets in Subeta. Despite, I am more mystified by the random golden bars on her page. I assume that there is simply some missing coding stating 'health' and whatever else needs to be there? Whatever. I move on with the walkthrough.

The walk through sends me to Sarah, the sweet newbie quest giver. I am fond of her, her image actually shows and she is the first pretty graphic other than the pets that I am met with. I begin her quest for some bread. I click the easily accessible 'search for item' link on her quest, which makes me leave her page. I buy the item... and cannot return to Sarah. Clicking back in my browser history fails. Going to the walk through again simply rushes me to the next step. I'm not ready for clothes shopping, yet, I am on a timed quest! It is my first heroic deed! I attempt the 'Search Subeta' option for both newbie quest and Sarah... to no avail. Luckily, the kind people in the built-in chat provided a link to her. I still have no idea how to find her, and I forgot to bookmark the link. I pray I will stumble upon her when I explore the world.

The walk through urges me on a quest to shop for some clothes for the avatar which I was unable to customize. I am greeted with this:

I assume, like other virtual pet sites, there should be some sort of graphic, like a shop-keeper, there. I am met with plain and disheartening html, making me believe that the site may in fact be dead, and thus the root of my problems. No items stocked... and restocked 44 years ago. This must be a silly prank to deter new users... right?!

I refresh several times to finally get a full shop of beautiful and exciting clothes. I click the first pretty shirt that I see. Blue Lovingly Laced Layer Tank. I am greeted with the following image: I assume that is either an image of the clothing I failed to grab in time, or a very disgruntled NPC yelling at me for being so slow. "Is Sold Out! Shoo!"

I go back, to find the shop empty once more. I refresh again, three times, until the shop is miraculously full again. At least my idea of a 44-year restock time has been shoved to the side. I scroll down and eagerly grab the shirt again, teeth barred.

I go to my wardrobe, as the walk through insists, to equip my new-found pretty clothes. I am met with thus: Disappointing. I do not give up! I switched the Beta wardrobe, and all worked fine... to which point I realized that I had happened to choose freaking GRAY hair from the beginning. Like I'm an old lady trying to game with the young'uns. Aren't I pretteh? I have no idea how to change this. Thanks, walk through, for teaching me that~.

The last thing in the walk through, hence the last thing I took a screenie of before deciding to freaking deal with it, was my first poll. I am 22, and voted on the poll about age up right now. The finishing results was the cherry on top of failed graphics. I remember even those old cheap yahoo websites could get polls down accurately. Sometimes even with pretty colors!

I have been looking forward to joining Subeta after hearing, seeing, and reading about so many wonderful reviews. As a new user, I am let down... horribly.

I would love to know if all of this is fixed with a certain browser. Though I am a firefox-lover, I am willing to attempt downloading and trying another browser should I know that it will improve my experience on this site. I look forward to any tips from anyone, and hope that my notes have not gone unnoticed by the Subeta staff! Thank you in advance for any tips! I will update this forum should I run into any more problems, excluding the ever-so-common broken images. (Such as games, which I have not attempted thus far.)

The registering process is full of broken images, and that's something they're going to have to fix. I'm sorry that was your introduction to the site.

Some of the other stuff can be explained, however: Firefox should work pretty well, IE does not. I use firefox and manage just fine. There is usually one or two areas of the site that are having issues, but they've been good at fixing and renewing so far. Right now the wardrobe is being updated, for instants, so it has some issues, however, if you move on from the opening wardrobe site to "Avatar" on the bottom left there, you should be able to change your hair and everything else about the base.

Your pet's gender is right there next to her name. The two orange bars represent how full and happy she is. When they're in red you'll need to feed her and play with her, but you can also put her in the resort in Veta Lake for a low fee, and they will keep her happy. She will never die, no matter how long she goes unfed, but she can't fight in the Battle Dome if she is not in the green.

As for navigation, most things can be found through the map, but the quests can also be accessed from each other, so if you don't know where Sarah is for instants, you can go to Saggitarius' purple tower in Centropolis, and he will link you there. These are things you will discover in time. I reccommend doing the Item Hunt (found on the game page), the Wizard's quests, Quentin's and Pete's. They give nice rewards, as long as you don't give in to their more expensive demands.

I really hope that your experience gets better, because, despite its flaws, this is a really fun site to be a part of. So ... welcome to Subeta. :)

I've found that the best way to keep track of all the quests is by adding the quest widget to your sidebar (which you can do here)

This sounds very familiar. That's the same experience I had with the Sarah quest a couple of years ago, too and have spoken about it at length in the suggestion forum, because yeah, the walkthrough's confusing. I love your writeup, though, you've got a great sense of humor about all of this.

If it helps, though, the "shop is sold out and hasn't been reset since 1969" is some sort of odd glitch that happens if you try to buy an item precisely at the top of the hour when the clock clicks over to :00. If you click the back button until you're in the shop again and then refresh, it should allow you to buy the item without all the repetition. I run into that a lot still.

What a horrible first impression! I hope all the issues you mentioned will be fixed quickly! The wardrobe might take some time though, since they're in the middle of a big revamp.

I'm a user for 7 years now, and even I don't know how to find Sarah through the map xD If I want to do her quests (which I can't because I have too much money), I'd have to get to her either through the quest widget or by going to some other quest and click the option to show all other quests at the top of the page, there's a link to Sarah too I think!

I might have a usefull tip for you, for questing. In firefox when you click a link while holding ctrl, it will open the link in a new tab. When clicking a link while holding shift, it will open the link in a new window. In both cases you still have the original quest page open, so you don't need to navigate back to it. When holding ctrl and shift both when clicking a link, it'll open a new tab without shifting the view there, that helps when you do quests where questgivers ask for more than one item, that was you can open all links to the shop search and then see if the items are cheap enough to buy or not, without switching windows/tabs like crazy. I hope that helps a bit!

The weird restock times usually show when you're somehow redirected to a shop that doesn't exist or something like that. Weird things like that usually happen to me when I write invalid captcha codes, or when something is sold out for whatever reason and I try to get back to the shop.

Reya, in response to your: "Question: How did you get to the shop that told you it was sold out and hadn't restocked for 44 years? Sounds like you got redirected to the wrong place!" I should have saved the url bar, but I did not. It was the standard link that the walk through provides towards the clothing shop. Not a major issue, since refreshing fixed it.

I didn't mean to hurt you, Keith! D: I feel so bad, because everything that I have posted was the only and last negative experience. I am already falling completely for Subeta.
