I'm so excited.

I'm SO excited.

I've had about 2035404056095 problems with my current place. First, a convict was living there before me. Second, all his debts and crimes have come back to haunt me even though I didn't even know the idiot. Third, my Landlady is the most bat shit crazy person I've ever met. Fourth, the convict left the house in a horrible state and the LL didn't sort it out. Fifth, she told me that I was making the house messy because of my cats (not true!) and added £50 onto my rent PER MONTH. Six, I'm away from all my family and friends and the town is like a million miles away, so I'm lonely and I need my cats.

Well excuse me. When I moved in the house smelt of smoke, there was fat and grease everywhere in the kitchen, the carpets were pre-stained before I even stepped foot in the house, the drain was blocked with fat and it made the kitchen smell awful, it's damp and cold and you don't give a shit about anything other than money.

It's not like I wasn't nice to you either. I made you a birthday cake, I always asked how you were. I went out of my way to say "good morning" (but most of the time you ignored me anyway!)... I was a much better tenant than the previous one (who stole at least £1,800.00 from you) and you just used me to get more money because of my good nature.

Oh my fucking god. Now I'm living there, I wonder why the hell I even moved in!

BUT. BUT. There is a silver lining. I'm now moving to a beautiful apartment in the middle of a town where all my friends and family live. It's more expensive- but it's obviously been loved and cared for. The moment I walked in to look at it, it was a home. It's so amazing and I simply cannot wait to move in! I'm moving on the 2nd of August and even though I'm going to be homeless for a week, I'll go crash on my mum's sofa for a bit or something!

And the best part is- the new LL loves cats and is happy to have them!

SO EXCITED I CAN'T EVEN.

So CC, have you ever had to deal with a LL who was the worst kind of person? Ever moved into something better than a doss pit and felt so much better?

I'm happy to hear that you found such a wonderful new apartment and that you can leave your current "home" and that silly Landlady soon - good luck with everything!

Thank you so much! I'm so glad to be getting out of there. It's going to be stressful boxing up my whole life in four weeks (basically 8 days because of my working hours!), but I'll do it just to be away from her. Thank you for the luck, too-- I think I'll need it!

yay congrats!! I've had problems like that before with super shitty dorms and apartments and seemingly no one caring whether I fell through the fucking floorboards or the ceiling collapsing because everyone's awful and neglectful. It's definitely a relief to find a nice place, even if it is more expensive. It's so worth it imo

Agreed! My new HOME is so well looked after and I could tell, compared to this place. It says a lot when someone considers a place they don't even live, compared to somewhere they do, a home... Even though I'm paying more for the new place... I don't even mind. I know that the new LL will look after me, my partner and my cats. She's even painting the entire building to welcome me to the neighborhood and to her life!

Thank god you're out of that place- it sounds so horrible. Especially a dorm... You've got bigger things to focus on when you're studying that "is today the day the ceiling is going to fall on me"? Eesh!

£50/mo extra for pets is mental. She could have at least just asked for a bit more for the deposit, and then take some from it if your cats damage anything...

I've been lucky with both my landladies, my most recent was kind and helpful. Unfortunately I met her though the worst estate agent in the world, who outright lied about the price of the house and then denied having lied, lol.

She's just money grabbing. The new place asked for an extra week for the deposit IN CASE of cat damage (but she told me that they probably won't damage the place anyway), but she's not asking for extra rent per month or whatever... And the LL told me I could have two cats, and then when I got the second one, she was like "no I never would have agreed to that, I didn't even agree to one". Uhm excuse me? The Estate Agent told me that cats are fine under your instruction. Then she had the cheek to tell me to get rid of the kitten! Fuck off (I told her in my head).

I'm hoping she doesn't take anything from my deposit because they haven't damaged a thing. I'm just hoping the photos I took when I moved in are enough evidence, teamed with the inventory...

Ahh thank god for good LLs! Estate agents are the scum of the earth in 99.9% of cases. Last weekend I was meant to look at a house, booked it and it was fine. I get there and wait around for twenty minutes and it turns out that property had been let two weeks before I rung? Then when I got angry over the phone for them wasting my time, they told me a new property had come up that was similar but he wasn't sure about that cats and he would ring me back. 30 minutes later, I rung them and he said "oh yes, no cats sorry". WHERE WAS THE PHONE CALL?! Just ridiculous.

Did you manage to sort out the price / the lying scumbag?

Yeah, living in a shitty place really puts a damper on your entire day. Like you wake up in a place you hate where nothing works right and then you have to look forward to coming back to it at the end of the day. I'm actually still in school, but I'm living with my mom this summer. When the school year starts up again in the fall I'll be living in these sort of apartments that my college owns with full-fledged kitchens and bathrooms and bedrooms. They're one-person apartments and super expensive but idc, they're really nice.

That's awesome your new LL is painting the building for you before you even move in!! Obviously she cares that you're content there :) That's really awesome that she allows cats, too. Most places I know that allow pets are really shitty usually since the LL doesn't care what happens in those apartments and is money hungry. Hopefully someday I'll be able to find a nice place that allows pets, too; since I'd like to have a dog(or I'd settle for a cat if the LL didn't accept dogs).

Ahh I know what you mean. That's awful. Thankfully your mum is there to save the day! Good luck moving into those apartments. They sound lovely and thank god for everything being there and working. It's nice to have a kitchen, bedroom and bathroom etc. Currently the place where I am has a living room with a kitchen in it (some call it open plan but it's literally the kitchen in the living room) and then a horrible bathroom and bedroom upstairs. It sounds perfect for you, though! It means that you'll be able to focus on school. It might even be nice because you can just have your own space away from anyone, but you can see people when you want to. :)

This new place is separate and beautiful and there's not a thing wrong with it. I'm happy about the new LL and the building painting is such a sweet think to do. I feel much happier knowing she cares!

I've found that cats aren't such a huge problem... But everywhere I rung said "no dogs". There are some around that let you have a dog, but you have to look for them. I hope you one day get your dog and lovely apartment! But these college ones sound lovely and will be perfect for you. :)

Yeah, this new LL sounds a lot more reasonable. Doubt your cats will cause any damage!

And I know it was such a mistake to go to an agent, but we liked the house that much haha... yeah, the difference between the true price and 'agent price' was £50, so the landlady decided to let us have it for £25 less (it was already at borderline too expensive for half the people I was going to live with).

And UGH, don't even start about them not ringing back... it must've been more than 8 times I made the bitch promise to call me back, but she never would. Even caught her telling some other woman who answered to say she wasn't in ¦¬|

- Oh ye gods. You'll be so much happier in the new place, what a nightmare. I had a place I rented for three months while I was house hunting, and after that, and we cleaned the place out, the landlady wouldn't give me my deposit back, b/c we left the place "messy". What was this atrocious mess ? cheetos or doritos or some other orange cheesy snack on the floor. Problem is, I'm violently allergic to any orange cheese. The bitch littered the floor herself to fuck me over, but how do you prove that ? Deposits are a scam, always a scam. No one ever gets a deposit back.

I currently live in a falling apart 1965 mobile home. I'm in desperate need of a new one, or moving out of state. I currently own the trailer and rent the lot. The current land owner is a local insurance salesman whose properties he owns/insures have a tendency to burn down......... I'm trying to move out of state, to Oregon, with kidlet, but fighting her moron of a dad to move, so, what it'll come down to is, I'm either moving out of state, or buying a new trailer. In the meantime, I'm stuck in a horrible limbo, and am afraid we won't move until the school year starts, something I was desperately trying to avoid. aaaaaaauggghhh

oh my gosh I moved from a SHITTY apartment to like another shitty apartment where the management is freaking mental and I thought the past landlord was crazy. Well anyways I lived in a duplex that cost me $950 and anyways I moved in there and I spotted a roachie so I told my landlord and he said " well I admit I Just sprayed before you moved in I was like Wtf I never even seen any when I checked out the place and yah so later on down the road I told his arse about needing to spray and he tried to blame me saying he going to take money out of the rent. So like I was like oh heck no hes crazy ,not to mention he wanted me to do his yard work and even asked if I can get on top of the roof and clean the gutters and I was like wtf.... well I didn't pay him shiat and left the place just the way he rented it to me.

NOW ... I moved into this apartment it is only 650 but I have really nosey managers who say I can't have more than one visitor, they are always at the apartment , you can't smoke even though I don't smoke, also you cannot drink and I am like ... yeah right I am 24 lol If I want to drink I can. Oh and I had to deal with a neighbor from hell ,luckily the idiot got kicked out , and also I am having a problem the idiots gave me a white carpet and you know how dirty white carpets get lol. Oh yeah and there is these nosey neighbors who are like narks and like I don't think they even have a life because if so they must be really bored lol

What vulgar people! I don't understand estate agents at all. I went through a different one with this current apartment I'm moving to and they seem so friendly and nice (although a bit slow on the e-mailing!) I've had no problems and they're constantly in touch with details. I would have gone private but there's... Well there's nothing around here at the moment. Once they find a strong force (yourself!), they seem to buckle and not answer the phone... It's ridiculous. It's like, hello, I need to find somewhere to live and as soon as you start asking questions, they're nowhere to be seen...

I'm glad you're in a house you love though! Good news. Let's hope you never have to deal with estate agents again- especially not that one!!

Ahh god... What a horrible person. I'm making sure to take pictures of the house in the state that I leave it in, so that once I've locked it up and given the keys back, I have evidence of how it was when I first moved in (pictures then!) and how I left it (pictures when I moved out). Hopefully that's enough evidence but you never know. I can't believe the LL did that to you. What a horrible, money grabbing woman.

Oh god... Please be safe, especially with a kiddy! I really hope you can find somewhere new, that doesn't sound nice at all, especially being in such a limbo state. I hope you can move soon and the moron gets over himself. :( Good luck, you're in my thoughts! I don't know how renting works in America (I'll assume it's the same as England?), but could you go Private? I.e. find a house share or something where you pay rent and that covers bills and food and stuff? There's quite a few of those over here, but I don't know about over there. It would be nicer than the current situation anyway!

Jeez! That's really horrible. Well done for leaving that first place! That sounds horribly expensive for somewhere like that. I hope nobody else has rented the place and then he'll realise he had the perfect tenant before he pissed you off and turned into an arsehole!

The new apartment doesn't sound so great either... Especially the one visitor rule. How can they even enforce that? Glad the neighbour has been kicked out though, at least that's something! Haha, the tenant below the new apartment is this sweet old man who was looking out of the curtains at us when we were talking with the estate agent outside. I don't know why, but it makes me feel a bit safer? It means that he knows what's going on and whatever haha. If something happens then he will be there- from what I've heard anyway!

Oh god white carpets. That's seriously just asking for trouble. Will you move again soon or are you happy there regardless?

Uh I am not really happy I've been having anxiety since the guy moved he was like really mental and had a drug problem (meth./heroin) was like seriously out there and like I already suffered from anxiety and depression. Well before he left he slit my tires and would laugh creepily outside my door so I am like nervous that he will try and revenge or something because I got him kicked out lol :/.. so like I really want to move but I don't make a lot and you know you need deposit and stuff so it sucks.

Oh god that's horrible... What a nasty man. At least he's gone now. :) hopefully you get nicer tenants living near you from now on! Ahh yeah the deposit sucks. I'm having to borrow money off my parents to move but thankfully I won't have to go it again in a hurry, and then when my deposit from this one comes through (let's hope!), then I can pay them back. It sucks bad. I hope you get to move soon, it will be so much better for your health.

- There aren't many places like that here, some places you can rent do include utilities (heat, electric, water/sewer/garbage) but that's getting harder to find. Plus i have three cats and a dog. I am trying to remember to be respectful to the people in charge of the whole court system, but we will see. sigh. Kidlet even wants to move. How many teenagers do you know that actually want to up and move cross country ? sigh.

Ahh that's a shame, and I can imagine it's a lot harder with animals. You wouldn't find any private shares around here that accept animals. Something is going to come up soon, hopefully. I don't know any teenagers like that, actually! They all want to stay where they are. It sounds like she has her head screwed on, which hopefully makes you feel a bit better!

I know how you feel, I'm exactly the same. I really do hope it gets sorted soon. The courts never seem to understand that it's your life they're taking forever to sort! But you seriously will be in my thoughts and I'm glad you've got a daughter who seems to support you, too, which is lovely for you. But don't worry- it will all be worth it when you can finally move and get away! Then you can start a new life... And I'm sure it will be perfect. :)
