Nice to meet you fellow knitter/crocheter :D ! I've been knitting for almost six years now, and crocheting for about four. I've been obsessed since day one. I've just gotten into knitting hats and socks, and I'm also working hand-knitting into my graduation collection for my bachelors :P

Bite Me/In progress:
Hello to both of you! :)
Please feel free to DO get started on all the yarn you have any time. :)
I started off with knitting (was taught how by my Gma) when I was 8. From that I gradually picked up the crocheting as well. Lets say I have i have been at both for some time. lol! At the moment I'm working on: A Queen size crochet shell patterned variegated acrylic yarn afghan.
What are your favorite things to knit or crochet?
I'm a pretty restless knitter, not to mention terrible at completing projects :P. I really like experimenting with different stitches, colors, patterns, so if I'm not knitting anything in particular, I've got many random swatches going on my needles. For crochet, I like to make amigurumi, very fun and cute >w<

I experiment with different stitches & pattern styles in between projects. I tend to be rather OCD about my projects. Always seeing them through to the end. I make amigurumi and donate them to my local hospital for the sick kids.
Sure plz do, always looking for future Bday & Christmas ideas. :)
I am a very casual knitter. I have lots of friends who are knitting junkies and are trying desperately to get me to be more active on Ravelry. But my knitting still isn't top notch. I'm practicing patterns, basically, doing squares and I might stitch those together into a quilt later. Mostly because I have some cheapo white yarn I got as a gift, can't figure out what to make with it - SO blindly white and also, scratchy. Makes good practice though.
I just started crocheting. I have a teacher in my apartment complex (well, unofficial teacher, lol) and at the moment i am working on the croknitting technique. She calls it Afghan Stitch. Actually i am almost done with my scarf and we were gonna put pompoms on it :) After she wants to teach me how to use the double croknit hook.

I knit more than I crochet--in fact most of the crochet that I do is intended to complement my knitting. And I probably have half a dozen uncompleted, in-progress projects but not because I get bored of them, but because they all have their times and places. I've currently got a scarf that I work on between classes, misc. dish clothes that I do while I wait for my blood draw appointments, and then some tiny star wars based amigurumi knit I work on in my spare time for my best friend's birthday.
Myself personally don't use Ravelry. Don't use any particular one. If anything the occasional YouTube vid stitch tutorial that's all. Have found found with a coarse or rough yarn that after a couple of washes in woolite the yarn will turn softer. Hope that helps.
Aah! I'm familiar with the Afghan stitch. So lovely you found a fellow yarn crafter so close to you. A dying art it is, that many under appreciate. Mind you when the winter blows, who do they seek out for their chunky scarves and mitts? :) lol A double croknit hook? Pray-tell please explain for those of us unfamiliar to that term? And have you yet tried the Circular Knitting needles before?
Sounds like you are wanting to crochet more but seem timid to take the leap maybe? I do understand that if you are. I was like that for a LONG time and did only knit with simple crochet compliments to it. I had to work up the nerve. Once i did though, I have never looked back. Hard leap to make. :)
My terrible secret is that I prefer knit stitches to crochet and the techniques of knitting over crochet. (The horror, I know) Whatever skills I did once have in crochet, I let go by the wayside to perfect my knitting because I prefer the process more.
No such a terrible secret or horror as you say at all. There is a special comfort that goes with knitting over crochet. As there is one that crochet has over knitting. They each have there place. It's a lovely thing when both can be amalgamated into each other those isn't it?
I am not gifted with the knitting needles..or rather i feel i would not knit well. I have bad coordination so trying to use two needles would just confuse me. I am a leftie and when i tried to use my right hand to make it easier to learn, my hands would not cooperate....
The hook is basically called the Crohook and that is when you use two skeins of yarn to make a double sided pattern. It is basically like the Afghan stich, just working with two colors instead of one.

I have been knitting and crocheting for about eight years or more. I love it. I really love crocheting amigurumi. I also love knitting blankets, and knitting with size 50 needles and two or more strands of chunky yarn!! (The projects go so fast that way, as I have no patience haha!)
Aah I see. Don't let it be discouraging to you though. If there is a will, there is a way!
I think at this point i have attempted to try and knit/crochet just about everything at some point. All with varying success & failures. My fave to crochet is full Queen/King Afghans, baby blankets & also Infinity scarves. with matching finger-less gloves.
Most people I know crochet or talk about how much easier it is. I'm not of the same mind set, preferring my double needles and open stitches. It's led to some interesting conversions of crochet patterns to knitting simply because I refuse to give up my needles if I don't have to.
It's only been in the last few years i have picked up on the crocheting aspect. Before that i could only knit. For me knitting IS easier, don't have to think, just do it. With crochet, I have to think about it while doing it, or i miss stuff. lol
