Fellow knitter here. My most recent finish item:

I made the band gold because otherwise it was very blah and this way it ties in with the Triforce. So far I've only had two people comment on it and know where it's from. The guy that works at the Tim Horton's and the guy that works at Verizon. lol

Now I'm working on a fisherman's scarf for my mom. It's a scarf that has two side panels with a pattern, the one I'm doing has lace, and the part that goes around your neck in done in ribbing.

I usually do lace shawls but I have too many of them and there's only so many people I can give them to. Besides they usually want acrylic instead of wool.

Hi! owo I've been knitting and crocheting for a few years now,(i really need to photograph my first project some time, good ol' incredibly gaudy, scratchy acrylic scarf with one wonky end) I prefer the look of knitted fabric over crocheted but I crochet a bit here and there, Amigurumis and such, and right now i'm working on a crocheted blanket made out of little cute hexagons. uwu I'm also KnittingSquid on ravelry if anyone wants to add me on there.

I love the colours used in your project pic and the triangle pattern on it. It sets it off nicely. I'll admit I don't know where it's from, but i like it. Also the project for your Mother sounds lovely. And lace on anything is just so charming.

Oooh Hexagons you say! Well now how is that going? That is one shape I have not tried.

It's turning out super cute is how it's going. I'm using this pattern which includes instructions on how to join them together as you're still working them, cutting out all the sewing together parts that I'm bad at. :P

I am HORRID at reading patterns. Can't make heads or tails of them. lol! So I end up just looking at their pics and figuring it all out(how to do the stitch too) all done by sight. I do a LOT of modifying too. :D I think it's an awesome project you have going. Would like to give that one too a try myself one day.

Wow, you have more talent than me, then. xD I modify patterns a lot but if i did that i'd probably fail horribly, especially with crochet patterns. which may be why I can't read crochet charts for the life of me. x_______x far too complicated for my little brain, give me written patterns any day.

No not really. I was taught all my knitting & crochet by my Gma. And it was by mainly watching her and how she held the yarn and made the stitches. I remember this stuff. Also never once did she ever use a pattern either. And when she taught me, she told me to always remember... It is nothing more then a series of knots, twists and turns. Never pull your yarn to tight. And keep your wrists compfy and relaxed. Don't complicate it. Let the yarn and needles do the work for you. That is what her wise words on knitting and crochet were to me.

Those are certainly some wise words! I taught myself everything with the help of some books from the library, none of my relatives that are close to me relationship-wise knit or crochet, so. No teacher for me :P which is why i crochet weird, I crochet with the yarn in my right hand along with my hook, same as i hold it when i knit. owo; it just feels more natural to me that way.

Doesn't matter how you hold it, so long as it is comfy & natural. I found that youtube has great tutorials to show you knitting & crochet stitches. I forget sometimes and need a refresher so go to use that. Works like a beauty every time.

Thanks! Yeah, I have to be careful with that shawl. So far everyone I've shown it to loves it. lol The only thing so far stopping it from making itself a new owner is the fact that it's 100% wool. No one wants to deal with having to hand wash, block, and air dry a huge shawl. One of these days I need to make another one with my blue yarn.

I can believe they love it. I can also think of at least 4 or more people I know of of including myself who would love to have such an item and use it.. Something like that is meant for special times not for everyday. Just so delicate & adorable. You should be proud of that piece.

The projects I wear the most are primarily hats and simple scarves... I need more scarves, though, actually. I have a gazillion hats. I knit and crochet. I started knitting earlier... I don't know what the lag time was between when I learned knitting and then crochet. But anyway I started in - I think - 09. I learned on Youtube. First knit stitches were made with two pencils and a scratchy plarn.

I'd like to start doing socks... I really want to have some hand knit socks. But second sock syndrome. Ugh.

I spin a bit, too. I don't know if I'll have the patience to make enough yarn in one batch to make anything really great, but...

Yey knitting!! It's almost football season (and therefore knitting season)! I love to make shawls, scarves and blanket but I crochet my hats and animals. I get most of my patterns free off of ravelry (best site ever, sorry Keith) and have very good luck with them. I'm currently working on this pattern:

In a pretty handplied green cashmere yarn :)

Pictures if anyone is interested!

So, if I join in as well does that un-necro it? knitting never should be too old to talk about lol. My daughter is Shunklies, look it up, she does everything there is to do with yarn from dying, spinning, weaving, felting, she absolutely loves it, shes on Ravelry too. I can knit and crochet, but Im really slow and messy so I get fed up, but I have made socks and a mobius scarf. I think knitting is more satisfying once you've mastered it, there is tons of help out there for either thing. Crochet, [in my opinion of course!] is simpler, you hold the hook in one hand and make chains of varying loops as you go along the row. As a first knitting project I would suggest 4 or 5mm needles and double knitting/worsted? yarn at the very least, nothing fancy, no eyelash yarn, and make a scarf with 50g ball of yarn, do just knitting stitches at first so it is called garter stitch here in England. let me know if you need any help :0)

Im hiding from all the shouting about prizes until its locked lol. I think thats a good idea, all you need is a crochet hook and some yarn, get a medium sized one, ask in the shop you go to, any good salesperson will help with matching the hook to the thickness of the yarn, you can make a scarf in crochet, just go back and forth, the main problem people have at first is being too tense and holding it in a death grip so its hard to get the hook through the loops, just practice a few rows and the turns of course :0) I hope you enjoy it, it can be a lifelong hobby/passion and make you lots of nice friends and wearables!
