My school has decided to move the 5th graders into the middle school, for next year. So all of those little 4th grades will be in middle school next year. Honestly, I would have been horrified at the idea of this. My younger brother (who will be in 5th grade next year, of course) will certainly be insulted and picked on by the 8th graders.
Am I the only one with a school, this...annoying?
That will be harsh for those kids. I hope they will be..ok, I guess?
Oh well, I've never been bullied for my age. I know how to defend myself. I curse since I am 10. xDDD
My district cancelled summer school for elementary and middle schoolers. I wish they woulda cancelled high school too. It's because of the budget cuts..Darn recession... :x
Kids pick on kids about anything, he'll just get used to it. He'll be fine. Just tell him to remember about sticks and stones... BEAT THEM BULLIES UP!(:<(Lol, just kidding, but he'll be fine)
I hope they don't learn anything they shouldn't know until they're much older.
Eh, I think it depends on what kind of school it is. I didn't get picked on. Just stared at and made funny faces... I didn't care.
I went to a K-8 school, but one of the junior highs in my district is 5th-8th.
IMO, junior high/middle school should start in 6th or 7th grade.
the middle school that i went to a year ago was 5th-8th grade. all i really remember from when i was in the 8th grade was that the 5th grade didn't have lockers or classrooms near the 6th-8th grade.
it was just because the elementary is getting too small for the kids

ugh ew. i thought it was weird to have 6th,7th and 8th. when i was in 6th i didn't feel mature enough to be in middle school. damn, my sister is going in to fifth next year. there's no way i would let her near 8th grade boys. nope. nope. i'd lock her in a high tower where no boy could find her >:I
WTF? I went to school woth 8th graders when I was in first grade, all the way through until I graduated 8th grade. They don't care. Believe me.
I thought letting 6th graders in the middle school was a long stretch, but FIFTH graders? I was forced to go to the middle school as a 6th grader because our elementary school was too small and that was a hard change. i can't imagine having to go as a fifth grader.
honestly, the distance between a 5th and an 8th grader is HUGE i don't see this as a very...wise choice. but then again, it also depends on what type of area you live in.
Mines worse. My middle school is grades 5-9. Although I started there in grade six, it was still hard. The worst was the hallways though. I'm short and the hallways are narrow and some of the grade nines were over a foot and a half taller than me, so I got trampled a lot.
I am glad that I started school back in the day when things made more sense.
I do wish it was not that bad, to have fifth graders with sixth through eighth.
I hope they aren't picked on D: That would suck if it was me
Cleared by staff, oversized
5th grade is what age? does not understand the American school system :P
In Scotland you go to high school at 11/12 years old and are in the same school as 17/18 year olds. In my experience the older kids ignore the younger ones and despite the fairly large age gap between all the students, little bullying goes on (at least that's how it was at my school).
I'm sure your brother will be fine.
Edited because it didn't make sense xD
Sounds like a bad bad bad idea.
In our middle school's it's 6 thorough 8. We have a lot of schools here so crowding doesn't really matter all too much.
Unfortuanatley not all the schools have lockers, so the poor things have to walk around with their gigantic backpack all day. :P
...I was 10 in 5th grade, but then I started school a year early or some crap. Most fifth graders are 11 or soon to be turning 11. Eighth graders would be 13 and 14. It's really not that much of a gap, the same as high school really (grades 9-12). And like I said. I didn't go to middle school, the school I went to was literally preschool through 8th grade. Though there are regular middle schools around here.
