Hey, just wondering, does anybody do any of the cool stuff with My Little Ponies, like rehairing, painting, dying, etc.?

I'm thinking about buying a MLP and trying to do stuff like that with it to make it look like a zebra, but I was wondering if anybody had like any tips/tricks to make it easier? Or links to a tutorial or stuff?

Or just general thoughts on this? xD

I personally think it's awesome, and I just now looked up how to do it and I don't think that it's that difficult, even though it's time-consuming x3

i used to adore making MLP customs (i can't believe this topic ever came to subeta). i made a mom and baby zebra from a glory. it was pretty awesome looking. i agree that you should definitely read a great deal about how to do it (the right way -- not the fastest way). most is just trial and error. grab a few junky ponies from ebay or thrift stores and have a go. i thought it was great fun.

Woah..apparently a lot of people make Zebra MLPs o.o That's what I was going to try to make for my first one xD -loves Zebras- Maybe I'll try a raccoon though x_o

Cally - Your MLPs are awesome x_o I really love the first one, it's adorable xD

Thanks for the tips Monday, and yeah it does seem like it'd be fun Shatzy..something to do when I'm bored out of my mind, lol.

I'd love to try this sometime too, they look like a lot of fun and I've seen people do some pretty amazing things with them! , those custom ponies are lovely and very creative, you're really talented! I think Saffron is my favorite, that shiny copper paint against the dark blue is just gorgeous. ❤

I used to have some really good tutorials saved, but my computer kind of ate them. =( I'm sorry I can't be of more help.

Yay! I used to have a topic on pony photography before the forum reworking. I love custom ponies but the shipping costs of hair to the UK is immense, so I barely ever get to rehair them. On the customs part here is Loli, she needs hair which will be black and purple when I get around to ordering it XD (click the pic!) And these are my more artistically photographed ponies for those who are interested :) Pony Photography

Edit: May I suggest taking a look at Aikarin's web site, most people seem to have been inspired by her. Also the MLP Trading Post is often handy if you need tips from other users or just want to show off :)

Thanks Color and everybody else x3

Yesterday I went and bought a white pony and am halfway done rehairing it..I repainted the eyes blue (they were green), and put some stripes on its face (I'm making a zebra xD).

The rehairing is..so annoying x_o It's pissing me off a little bit, lol. I'm probably going to buy some wire tomorrow though so it'll hopefully go faster/better, since I've been using a needle and sewing thread..so the thread breaks every couple of plugs o.o (and I've broken 2 needles xD)

Hopefully I'll be done with it by this weekend..just gotta paint the body and finish the mane x3 So far I really like how she's looking, lol.

I can't wait to see what you've done with it. I think that it's such a neat idea, it's got me itching to try it out.

I made custom ponies for and last Christmas :)

For Arbor, I made a pony version of Loki, the prankster god; for Fletch, I made a sparrow-pegasus.

Pics: [x], [x], [x], [x]

I use Apple Barrel or some other brand of acrylic paint, and the rehairing tool. And patience. A damn lotta patience. YOUR FINGERS WILL HURT WHEN YOU'RE DONE HAIRING. You will also be bored out of your mind.

The rehairing tool is definitely worth the $5-10 investment. I would take ... 4-5 hours to rehair one adult mane without it. The tool cuts it down to maybe 2. You also need to be very careful about not putting too much hair in one hole or the whole thing will rip.

I also coat my ponies in an acrylic.. topping kinda thing so they won't scratch. Use lots of thin layers of paint when you paint to avoid streaks and bubbles. -flails-

AND BE PATIENT OMG it gets very tedious :(

You will find LOTS of help and tips and examples and guides at the MLP Arena. I also suggest in future ponies you paint first, rehair later.

Those are awesome ponies Corgi x3 I love the sparrow one, the colors are really cute :x

Yeah..so far I'm about halfway done in rehairing the mane..it's really annoying, and I keep taking breaks x3 But I did finally get some wire that won't break soo hopefully it should be a little less annoying than it was when I was using a needle and thread o.o

Yeah I painted the head and I'm rehairing the head now, still gotta paint the body, lol. And I'm painting with acrylic paints -remembered to buy them when she went to michaels-

Spippo on deviantART is the shit at MLP customs.

xxxx

It looks pretty time consuming though, and Id rather use the old style then the newer ones.

LOL, I've never heard of this. xD I love My Little Ponies. x)

I have heard of customising Breyer horses though, I was interested in that for a while, but I never had the proper materials. I keep meaning to buy them and give it a go. 8D

I finished it..except for gluing the head on o.o

Do you use some sort of special glue to glue the head back on xD Becauseee I tried Fabri-tac (or something like that) and it didn't really work..also tried rubber cement lol.

Maybe I just have to let it dry overnight? x_o

A hot glue gun should work, or anything very strong (we have a clear, really liquidy kind I don't recall the name of).

Woosie is probably also one of the best customizers out there today.

I'll see if my mom still has her hot glue gun then x3 Hopefully I can put the head on tonight then if she does xD
