Stupid circle of life. Okay, so today I was driving back home from dropping off my sister and I nearly hit a baby bird. Like, BABY bird. Doesn't have any feathers, except for a few on its wings. It's all pink and naked and adorable. And totally freaked out. But I resisted touching it, because I didn't want it to get eaten alive by anti-human animals or something equally stupid and imaginary, so I left it be. After half an hour I went out to check on it and it was now in the middle of the street, vulnerable. Somewhat alarmed and armed with a broom and a cup, I swept him up and placed him on a log, which he proceeded to fall off and try to shimmy under. I called my dad for advice and he gave me the worst advice ever, which was to feed it, so I fed it a little worm and delighted in its appetite. However, it was short lived, as I couldn't keep a bird. My step-dad told me to put it in a nest (which very well could have not been its nest) and that's where it is now, and I'm feeling sort of awful about it. ;-; Poor bird.
Any suggestions or stories? It makes me sad. :c
Well all you can do is wait and see what happens. I understand you feel bad :( I would feel bad too, but there isn't much you can do IMO. Just keep an eye on the little birdy and see if the nest you put her in, was the nest that she belongs in.
Is there a bird rescue in your area? If so, try giving them a call and explain. They might ask you or have someone come out and bring it in so they can care for it until it gets old enough to care for itself
I don't think there is. :/ Our nearest animal shelter is a good forty-five minutes away, and I don't think they take birds. I guess we'll just see how it works out. I wish baby birds weren't so high maintenance; I might just take him/her as my own. xx
Sadly, there's a lot of little birds that don't make it, it's just the way things go.
yeah i was going to say that most birds that are free from the nest like that are usually kicked out. it's just natures way and there is very little to do for them other than to ease the inevitable suffering of starvation, exhaustion, and death.

It's survival of the fittest... nature's a bitch. You could always buy a makeshift nest and put him in your yard if you have one. Or in a nearby tree. (:

Yeah, I wish I could take care of him. It would be epic to put him in a nest and feed him and stuff. XD
Aww this made me sad :(
If it fell out of the nest, it'll likely die no matter what you do to it. Little birds can get internal injuries that way. :x I'm not sure how much of a myth this is, but I've also heard the parents won't feed their babies if they've been touched by a human.
The best thing you could do for it is take it to an animal shelter or wild animal rescue center. Even a vet could probably give you the address of somebody who can take care of it. :)
(Lol, but if it was me, I'd probably fill a tissue box with pine needles and stuff and keep it in my room 'til it had a heart attack. I like birds. |D )
Yeah I would be upset, but unfortunatly the cat won't know what he did wrong. How is mum bird now?
Aww, that cat-eat-bird story is depressing. ;; And yeah, my dad suggested i keep it, but my mom would shit bricks. oo;
That's sad /: it happens a lot but... it's nature. There's not much you could do. I highly doubt a bird born in the wild would be as happy in captivity, and VERY few people I'm sure could adequately care for a baby bird. Idk if animal control would be willing to help in that kind of situation.
I guess it's best just to let nature take it's course ?
Hopefully it's mother comes back for it ):
Yes, hopefully. :/ I looked it up online and apparently when babies fall out of the nest their mothers sometimes care for them anyway. I found out by sheer observance that it is a baby cardinal, and the mother cardinal has been around like crazy, so I think it's working. This makes me a bit happier. :D Hopefully it'll be a happy ending. I'm going to check up on it tomorrow.
