My sister and mom went to take some trash off. I didn't even know they had left, but next thing I know my sister is coming into my room holding a pet carrier and bawling.
Apparently they drove by a Dumpster and saw the carrier. She told my mom to stop because she saw a cat in there. My mom said she wasn't sure but they stopped and picked it up. When they picked it up they saw two little heads pop up.
Someone threw a mama cat and her three babies (one is so small they couldn't see her at first, all babies are female) in a cat carrier with a dish with some dry food and left it beside the Dumpster. My sister's still crying and it's been about an hour since they came back.
That's so awful. And it's even worse now that it has been so cold out. Poor babies. :c I hate that people do those sorts of things.
I'm so glad you found them though. Do they all seem to be alright?
It's also been rainy out, but thankfully it didn't rain today. They're all doing OK, they just have runny eyes and they need to eat.
Are they okay? Are you going to keep them? Or take them to a shelter? A no-kill one hopefully? You can search online for a nearby no-kill shelter. Or taking them to a veterinarian who will not simply put them down and will take care of them and let you know when they're okay. I hope you'll let us all know what happens with them! They're very lucky little kitties that you guys found them when you did.
Our cat is older and she's been very sick so the babies will probably stay with us or at least one of them. My mom knows a no-kill shelter where she can take the mom, and they'll fix her before adopting her out.
That's so sad. :(
Does she know the people directly? I used to volunteer for a no-kill and we used to have a lengthy wait-list. So, it'd make sure to call as soon as possible.
What do the kittens look like?
I think she does, I'm not sure. There's a calico, a dark grey one with orange spots, and a grey tabby with orange spots. The mom is orange.
They sound really cute. I'm sure they'll do much better now that they're somewhere warm. I'm happy you guys were the ones to find them. :D
I'm glad you can at least keep one of them, and that they seem to be okay. :'D They sound adorable, especially the grey and orange ones. Do you have any idea how old the kittens are?
Sorry about your cat being sick though. I hope she gets better. <3
That's dreadful! I'm so glad your family found and saved them. I'm worried about the mom- older animals are usually more difficult to adopt out, aren't they? Have you asked any friends or family members if they have room for a fluffy friend? In any case, at least you found her before she was too hurt! This cold weather, she and her babies are so fortunate.
Aw, the fact that they were left some food makes it soundlike the owner had good intentions, but just didn't have any idea what to do when they couldn't take care of the cats. I'd be sad, but the fact that you found them makes this a happy story to me :')
They're so cute and curious! We had to round them up and put them back in their carrier for the night. I'll try to get pictures of them tomorrow. Some of the toes on the darker one are orange!
We're thinking around 6-8 weeks. They can eat on their own because they crawled into our cat's food and started to eat.
She's pretty young but I know what you mean. We've been trying to figure out if anyone would want her, but I can't think of anyone who wants a kitty right now. Usually people know us as cat people and we've got three or four people asking if we have kittens or know of anyone who does, but that hasn't happened lately.
All I can think of is that they hoped someone would find them soon. Luckily we did, but if we hadn't I don't know what would have happened. A lot of people use that dump, but I can't say many people would stop to look in what could have been a junked pet carrier.
Oh, good. That means they're probably at the adoption age, so if you do end up taking them to a shelter, they'll probably find homes pretty fast. Especially with Christmas coming up, I'm sure people will take them home. c:
made a good point though, that the mom might have a harder time getting adopted. I'd definitely see if any of your friends/family wants her, or the kittens, before you take them to a shelter. That way you know they're in good care.
They're definitely at that perfect age. I didn't even think of them being Christmas kittens. Of course it's been like 75 degrees all week, so it doesn't feel like Christmas! They'll find good homes if we can't keep them. The problem is my mom, sister, and I all like different ones!
I hope someone comes along soon! I'm sure there are plenty of people who'd love to add a grownup kitty to their family. It might also be beneficial to look into a shelter with a good fostering program for cats. :) Happy holidays!
We certainly will! Happy Holidays to you, too! :)
Im really glad someone as compassionate and knowledgable (fixing, no kill etc) as your family found them all. Its a horrendous thing. I dont really want to be gloomy; but maybe you should tried fostering them till after christmas...i know they may be less likely to be adopted, but the people may be more serious. Less 'impulse buys', especially kittens...and if you foster them a bit longer maybe you can see who fits most into your family dynamic? Just a thought. I dont mean to seem gloomy or like im lecturing ><
The good thing is that they were found and can be helped. c:

It's OK, I totally understand. I think my mom's talked herself into keeping them, even though she's saying that we'll keep them for a few weeks and then see if we can find someone who wants them. The runt keeps following everyone around!
Can't agree anymore than that! :)
