Hey everyone!
I've just rolled out some important backend improvements to the quest system that should make your questing experience much smoother. While most of these changes are "under the hood," you'll definitely notice the difference!
The biggest improvement: Quest pages now load instantly! We discovered that when NPCs were trying to select items for you to find, they were getting overwhelmed looking through the entire item database. Some of you may have experienced "502 Bad Gateway" errors when trying to start quests - that's now fixed!
So I've built a new system that tracks:
This data is now cached and updated regularly, making quest item selection lightning fast while maintaining all our availability checks.
The quest system now actively uses market intelligence to help balance the economy:
For our admin folks, we've got a new Quest Analytics Dashboard that will help us monitor:
TL;DR: Quests now load instantly AND actively help balance the economy by prioritizing overstocked items and combating hoarding! Happy questing! π
Leave any and all feedback here for changes! Thank you!

Maleria's a bit keen on certain items today. She only asked for Hikei Lances and Love Snowballs for all 5 of her quests.
Hunting for: (It's the only beanbag I need for a full collection!)
Thank you for an update!
Quests still say: available 5/5, no matter how many you have done
Saggi asked for Wreathed Diamond Circlet - each quest, which means it disappeared from user shops and made it impossible to complete the quest V-Nuke in 2 quests
I also wonder what "market intelligence" is? Is that some kind of AI? Or just complex checks? How will "Anti-hoarding mechanism" and "Rewards competitive pricing" work?
- I came here to say that! I can't believe she is STILL asking for only those two items from early this morning until now! how strange. Is Maleria sick? :P
thanks for updating the quests, it was getting rough, I quit more than I completed the last couple weeks, and yesterday I was able to actually complete all my kumos quests! :)
edited to add Saggi asked for the "Wreathed Diamond Circlet" for all five of my quests today and I was only able to purchase one, then there were no more available. :(
Thank you for looking into the quests again!
I also experienced the same requests as the users above me. Saggi's third item was the wreathed diamond cirlet every time, and Maleria only wanted Hikei lances and love snowballs.
The other quests all seemed to ask for a good variety though.
Thank you for this and the update. It's very much appreciated. I've noticed the difference already. Will Echo Maleria asked for the same 2 items 5/5 quests. However, the items did seem overstocked that she was asking for.
Saggi asking for same 1 mil item 5/5 quest - had to give up on all of them today.
The rest are working for me no issues. Made about 2.1 mil sP total

wishing this all the best that it pans out smoothly!
would prefer if there was a toggle for the confetti (while its fun, its also just annoying visually haha, through we may be burned on the time outs), and also a standardized area in which the give up/complete quests buttons are, since they jump around an alarming amount, especially on PC (find mobile too awkward to use with the empty space/padding). don't know how many times we've went to click on complete quest and the boxes have stacked together, registering it as 'give up' instead.
We really do need the complete quest and give up buttons to be further apart. It would also be better if the complete button was on the left and the give up button on the right
if you need a visual as to how temperamental the complete quest and give up buttons are, this happens constantly:

it's just all over the place rn. also, saggi is now asking for for every quest maleria still stuck on the snowball and lance, too.
So I have a question in relation to this portion of the latest changes - specifically in regards to the "anti-hoarding mechanism". As has been stated on the discord (but not here on these forums for some reason?), the current system is resulting in the same small handful of items being asked for over and over by multiple quest givers. Most prominently the following items, as noted in this thread: & from Maleria, from Saggitarius. from Maybel
Since I have been abstaining from quests for a bit myself I decided to do a quick test of these questgivers on Kumos, just to see what the results were on my end, starting with Saggitarius:
Quest 1:
Quest 2:
Quest 3:

As reported by other users, the Circlet is appearing in every single quest, despite being completely unavailable in user shops at present and only accessible (in limited quantities) through NPC shops.
Next on to Malaria:
Quest 1:
Quest 2:
Quest 3:

Probably the most standout example of duped items. As can be seen, I pre-bought 3 of each and was able to finish all three quests without needing to purchase any other items.
Also checked Maybel since people have reported having the same issue with her quests, here's the results:
Quest 1:
Quest 2:
Quest 3:

As can be plainly seen, all three of these quests are asking for duplicate items in every instance, with Malaria being the most egregious, asking for the same two items over and over.
Checking the availability of these items across user and NPC shops yields some very confusing results. The Snowball is the most stark example; being only in stock in 3 user shops, but vastly overstocked (over 1k units) in one. The Lance is a bit more spread out, and the Circlet meanwhile is completely unavailable in user shops. The Black Octoplus also seems to be a more recent item to be encountering this phenomenon, and the effects of its availability in user shops can already be seen after only one day.
My question is... what exactly are the "anti-hoarding" methods meant to be and how are we supposed to know if they're working or not? The Snowball item in particular is the most standout with the difference in NPC vs user shop availability. While technically available infinitely from the snowball shop in the Arctic Frost, the option to purchase it from here doesn't appear when Shop Searching the item - the only option that appears for purchasing it is the user shops, which is evidently not taking into account whatever anti-hoarding measures are meant to be in place.
Telling us they're there is one thing, but in order to properly test that these features are working correctly I feel it's important we know a bit more details about how they're meant to work. I know we're in the early testing phase right now and that there's naturally going to be some teething issues, but how are we meant to give useful feedback if we don't know what we're supposed to be looking for?
TL;DR: Something is clearly not functioning correctly behind the scenes and it's causing problems that are bleeding over from Kumos onto the main site. I'd like to see some more transparency so as to easily identify how and where these issues are happening so they can be readily reported on.

Thank you for the feedback everyone! I've pushed out some more changes today:
The cache has been working really well - and the amount of information it takes in about items is easy to build on, and add things like what you're mentioning (items being available outside of user shops in bulk, or for cheap in shops where you can buy from a NPC)
More flexible item selection for quest item pools giving me the ability to increase total size of the pools, but still limit the number of items asked for. There are now three modes:
Saggitarius gets to be the test subject for the above changes! He now has a much larger pool, asking for a broader range of items and not just jewelry. His pool went from 687 items to 6,236 items π€―.
Let me know how these quests feel compared to before, hopefully you should get asked for a lot less of the same item.

i'm also hearing the feedback on the UX of the page itself and going to take a run at making some improvements. maybe even making the confetti optional, if I can figure out why the settings page is resetting so easily

Thank you for the update and for all your hard work!!
I am not old. I am gracefully aged
Thank you! It will be nice to do more Sag quests instead of having to abandon them because they keep asking for the same 7m item. I'm all for more variety in what the NP C asks for . I'm even for more variety in the rewards pool. I like the stuff the quests are giving out but when each of my 20 pets has read a book, it's time to change the reward items. XD :D β€
...I came here thinking, the changes were made to remedy the 5/5 repetition on items for as it seems EVERY quester (in Maleria's case same 2 items for at least 2 ! days), and other bugs, which we have pointed out daily on the other thread(s)? Judging by other users' comments, it's exactly the other way round and the now explained changes are the reason for the bad questing experience we have suffered from for a while?
edit: I received the event only a couple of minutes ago and now realize the OP is from 2 days ago. And there was another change made Posted on: 09/6/25 at 4:27pm.
I'm hoping to see improvements on quests tomorrow then, we'll keep you posted - as always ;-)
The changes in this thread are from changes pushed to production yesterday - so wouldn't have any impact on quests prior to that. The changes yesterday (and a few up) and broad attempts to address feedback. Hopefully the Saggi changes feel good, and I can continue to make improvements to the rest of the quest givers. Sorry that you have been suffering a bad experience!

Another piece of interesting data ( sorry I didn't tag before!)
These are the current item pool sizes, as you can see Saggitarius now has a very healthy set of items to draw from now, and the Wizard only has 117 items π¬ That'll be the next one I try to get bumped up!

Pushing up a fix for that, and some wonky button alignment in the quest bar!
