👋 hi everyone, I've just rolled out some major changes to how shops restock on Kumos, and hope to continue to get your feedback. This is based on the feedback from the previous forums, and scrolling back as far in the discord (link in the footer!) as I could over the last few days.

📊 What's Changed

Stock Limits by Rarity

We've completely rebalanced how many items appear in shops based on their rarity:

  • Rarity 1-20: Max 75 items (down from 500)
  • Rarity 21-40: Max 50 items (down from 200)
  • Rarity 41-60: Max 25 items (down from 100)
  • Rarity 61-80: Max 15 items (down from 50)
  • Rarity 81-95: Max 8 items (down from 20)
  • Rarity 96-98: Max 3 items (down from 5)
  • Rarity 99: Max 1 item (unchanged)

Faster Stock Rotation

Items that don't sell will be removed from shops much faster:

  • Common items (r1-20): Removed after 3 days if not selling
  • Uncommon items (r21-40): Removed after 5 days
  • Rare items (r41-60): Removed after 1 week
  • Very rare items (r61-80): Removed after 2 weeks
  • Ultra rare items (r81-95): Removed after 3 weeks
  • Legendary items (r96-99): Removed after 1 month

Smart Restocking Schedule

Different rarity items now restock at different frequencies:

  • Common items: Daily restocks
  • Uncommon items: Every 2-3 days
  • Rare items: Weekly
  • Very rare items: Bi-weekly
  • Ultra rare items: Every 3 weeks
  • R99 legendaries: Monthly

🎯 Why These Changes?

Better Shopping Experience

  • Shops will feel more alive and dynamic with regular turnover
  • Rare items will actually feel rare when you find them
  • No more shops cluttered with hundreds of the same common item

Enhanced Player Economy

  • More opportunities for players to buy items and resell them
  • Quick decision-making rewarded - rare items won't sit on shelves forever
  • Active players who check shops regularly will find the best deals

Realistic Scarcity

  • R99 items will truly be special monthly events
  • High-rarity items will create genuine excitement when found
  • Stock will move faster, preventing items from languishing

💰 Opportunities for Players

For Restockers

  • Buy quickly when you see good deals - they won't last long
  • Monitor shops regularly for newly restocked rare items
  • Build inventory of items that consistently sell well

For Shop Owners

  • Study NPC shop patterns to know what items to stock
  • Price competitively against items that rotate out quickly
  • Focus on items that have proven demand

For Collectors

  • Check shops more frequently for rare finds
  • Act fast when you see something you want
  • R99 items will be genuine events worth celebrating

🔄 What to Expect

  • Shops will look different with more varied, smaller quantities
  • Rare items will disappear faster if they don't sell
  • More frequent restocks of popular items
  • Better opportunities to profit from smart buying
  • More dynamic marketplace overall

📈 The Goal

These changes are designed to create a more vibrant, fast-moving economy where:

  • Active players are rewarded for paying attention
  • Rare items feel truly special when found
  • Player shops have more opportunities to compete and profit
  • The marketplace stays fresh with regular turnover

I'll be monitoring how these changes affect the economy and may make adjustments based on how things develop. These changes now give me a lot more levers to pull in terms of tweaks to make, so hopefully there will be less "big changes" to the system.

I'll also be clearing the shops entirely when pushing out these changes!

As a restocker, booooo for removing the ability to filter by rarity!!!!

But as someone who cares about the Subetan economy, yaaaaay for removing the ability to filter by rarity. Now it takes at least a little effort to find the newest rare items.

This feels like it will make questing even worse. Especially with Saggi. I already hate it when he asks for something that is way higher priced in user shops than what he will ever give in return, because it means that I have to give up a quest, which in turn means loss of income. If the higher rarities are gonna get even rarer then prices will go up even more, making questing on kumos less profitable than it already is, in comparison to the legacy site...

I don't think the rarities are restocking at the right rate. For example, I'm seeing the stat potions in Apocalyptic Apothecary come in on every restock.

Also it's a bit strange to remove the rarity sorting but keep the new items coming in at the end of the shop list, making the rare items easy to restock anyways.

I agree with , went to various shops and they all seem to be stocking higher rarity items much more frequently. I've never seen so many stat potions in one go in the apothecary in my years of restocking there as I do now!

The layout is much too bloated - we've been asking to return to a more legacy like size (everywhere, not only the shops) since dawn. 8 : 5 items in a row!

Still no sidebar widget for the NPC shops in alphabethical order for easy and fast access. Hours of searching and scrolling up and down on https://kumos.subeta.net/shops/, which always reverts to top on back tabbing, so the scrolling down starts anew.

Shop search still is not implemented and now we can't search in the shops anymore, either.

As others have mentioned: Missing a lot of shops, still.

I've spent 2 hours looking for my favourite items! An absolute no go. ... and tried for 10 minutes in vain to make the menu drop downs allow me to make it down to and let me press "shop search" on the "Commerce" tab (in order to find out, if it had been implemented). Not possible and still legacy frame only.

I'd still prefer all items on one page and an acknowledgement of purchase (paired with the saved sP once card and buff have been implemented). Having to back tab and scrolling down to find, where you had left off (or noticing you are in a prior window, because purchase didn't go through and then page forward again...) before purchase is a pain ita.

Still misses the point of RSing. There should not be 17 pages of items in a shop. The idea was that only so many items were available in the shop on a single page. I don't like the pagination style. Only one r99 a month is silly too; imagine the chosen r99 is something nobody even wants. Imo, it will cause the opposite extreme to happen: color potions are gonna get overly expensive. Especially if a new pet combo releases, say in Nightmare, and it's popular.

There's no confirmation that I even bought an item successfully.

And the shop banner interferes with the dropdown tabs above. I'd just change it back to the way it looks on legacy cause it's perfectly fine as it is.

I have to ask, did anyone actually want RSing on here to be changed?

what do you think?

This seems like it'll be a fun change to the economy until quests deplete the stockpile of rarity 85+ items that already exist on the site. Is the quest reward system robust enough to handle the increased price of naturally inflating items? What about arbitrarily inflated ones? Assuming the limits at the top, "shelf" time, and restock frequency per rarity remains the same, it's going to make middle-high rarity items (40-80) exceptionally rare to find because the rarity distribution of items seems to be skewed may more towards the middle of the rarity bracket than the common end.

For an example using the clothing rack:

  • There are 12 items with a rarity of 1-20.
  • There are 16 items with a rarity 21-40.
  • There are 341 items with a rarity of 41-60.
  • There are 436 items with a rarity of 61-80.
  • There are 181 items with a rarity of 81-95.
  • There are 29 items with a rarity of 95-98.
  • There are 5 items with a rarity of 99.

As for the layout of the shops... I'm sorry but this is genuinely awful. Multiple pages of stock to wade through that doesn't seem to be sorted in any predictable way (release date or name or rarity) means one has to scour across 19+ pages of junk in order to try and find something. I assume that with the changes to max amount of stock this will change, but I really don't think there should be multiple pages that a user has to page through to see all items in a shop.

Not crazy about this to be honest. The Kumos layout is awful and I use both mobile and my regular computer so neither is much better. Was enjoying the option to filter by what was in my wardrobe (in the clothing shop for example - wish that was a feature in all the shops for reading/gourmaund goals for example) so I can shop for those needed items. The Kumos site seems even SLOWER today than it has been all week (before I'm asked, I did test my connection and I'm running at my fastest speeds I pay my internet company for/tested other sites and they work perfectly in speed). RSing didn't need to be updated when it was already difficult to begin with. As a working adult, I don't have all day to sit in the shops and try to restock for an item I've been after just so I don't have to play inflated costs. As we go through the already own items in user shops and the Kumos shops barely restock needed items (why only release one item at a time...), this will make it even harder with the inflation costs.

Also, why did the Kumos quests take away the option to take an item out of my own legacy shop when questions on Kumos? I ended up buying an item from my own shop instead of the quest telling me I already had it. That makes no sense to have to buy my own items when there should be an option to move it over. I have to open an Account Search tab from legacy as I quest on Kumos now (eats up more time off the timer as I wait for your slow loading times). I get you all want to start limiting what players make from quests but I end up spending more than I make so not sure there is a tradeoff here.

This post feels like it will end up like the other site changes where the users aren't really listened to. I want the best for our site but let's face it, Kumos is not really ready for us to play on it exclusively.

This 100 percent.

I also do not care for the bloated layout. There's an awful lot of information to make sense of on the screen and shops shouldn't be paginated. You should be able to see everything on one page (the better to spot rare items or items you're looking for), release order should be a sorting option (and you should be able to set a sitewide default for yourself if there are going to be multiple options), and the old styling of items (including on-screen information) was perfectly fine.

Plus....the screen just refreshes when I buy something? I need to know that I actually got the item and I'd like to know what I paid for it (and what bonuses were active in my price).

Beyond that, I agree with the concerns about what will happen when the current stock in user shops is depleted and is not being replenished from easy restocking, or quests, or vending. I get that things are a little broken now when prices in user shops are a quick race to 2k sp or less, but this feels like too hard of an overcorrection.

Especially with rare items....right now, if I really wanted to RS for a particular rare item, I'd simply check shop restocks and hope it gets selected by the random pull. With the new changes, now I also have to know whether the rare items have already restocked for that week or that month, and potentially been bought. I could be completely wasting my time for a full month trying to watch for an r99 that will never restock because the single item already did and was bought. And I'd have no idea that I was wasting my time. Not to mention, if I'm looking for a specific r99, I could now have to wait for months upon end for that item to be the lucky r99 to restock. These are not great incentives to get me to spend my limited time I have available to do or benefit from any of the things you listed as opportunities for players.

Sorry this entirely negative feedback, but I think this (and many of the changes to related systems) needs to go back to planning and design. And while in theory, all the things you list sound like it should create a vibrant economy with engaged players....I think you need to work up some user personas that include working adults with limited online time and consider how they engage with the site. I've been a player for a loong time and part of the appeal that keeps me here and with an active subscription is that I don't have to put too much effort into it. It's something that doesn't require a lot of my brain (so important when I'm tired at the end of the day or getting in a quick break during 5 minutes of downtime) and I can get some nice rewards every day with low to moderate effort, with higher participation during seasonal events. If that increases because I'm now supposed to track selling trends or study shop patterns, it's just not going to happen. I don't have that kind of time anymore.

Ok I'll be honest - I've not tried RSing in the Kumos shops until now

It's really not a patch on the old (and I'm not just saying that "because it's new"!)....

  • I do prefer the original layout where everything is on one page (how can you "buy quickly" when everything is paginated?!)

  • The drop down menu doesn't work (it lies behind the "get mugged" header, so navigating anywhere using the drop down menu is well-nigh impossible from a restocking shop)

  • it also doesn't work from the "main shops" page as the drop down text overlaps with the "how shops work" header section - any chance we could minimise that section please (when we've got the hang of how the shops work, it could help to make the page a little tidier)
  • If you purchase an item, the page reloads but there's nothing to say your purchase has been successful (so ideally you need to have your inventory open in a new tab just to keep checking if you've actually RSd anything)

  • Please bring back the original sorting, where the newer items are at the bottom of the page (that makes it so much easier to RS new things, rather than having to remember the names of each item!) - going from that to alphabetical sorting really messes with my head! Also, the 'newest item' order felt more like a real shop (where the new items are placed to catch your attention at the entrance for instance) - how many RL shops have their stock arranged in alphabetical order?

  • and I agree with that the one R99 a month is maybe not the wisest of ideas - that really could screw a lot of the pricing of popular R99 items, especially if there's an unpopular one that gets stocked in a given month (and we then end up with that sitting gathering dust in the shop for a whole month)

On a side note, now the restocking shops seem to be able to be sorted by price, does that mean that sorting by price will make a reappearance for our own shops?

sorry if anyone else has mentioned these points already!

I think the biggest flaw is that if items are allowed to pool in the main shops, at prices that are worth buying, they will never sell in user shops.

Maybe over time the way you have items set to clear will balance it out, but we wouldn't know for a month if i'm understanding the system. I think you could cut all of those timers to under 1 day. (I don't actually understand why you would need to wait 1 month for a r99 to despawn if they only spawn once a month, theoretically shouldn't they sell almost imediately)

Would it be possible to add itemID as a sort option (in addition to alphabetical and price)? It would basically be a legacy sort since that's how the main shops are displayed on the legacy site, and I don't think it would unbalance or unfairly give an advantage the way some of the other sort/filter options could before.

Also, it would be amazing if you could be returned to the same scroll position after you buy something rather than getting the entire page reloaded and dumped at the top again. I can see it's a bit of a trade-off for not having a purchase screen anymore (which I didn't mind having per se but it doesn't seem to be coming back). but it's really frustrating to have the shop basically reset every time you buy something, especially if you applied a sort filter since that gets cleared too.

Wow, just wow! Thanks for the fast make over! For sure didn't expect to find remedies to my morning post this evening.

What I found on first glance: reverted to former main shop list layout - unfortunately backtabbing from a shop mostly still sends us to top of page and not where we had left off - edit: just changed again, we had 3 narrower shop banners in 1 row! less scrolling down! Oh, and the top drop down menu has vanished from that page?! edit 2 - hahaha, reverted again

space reduction of items in shop with good scaling, however the items have shrunk in size. The reason is, that Kumos has an extra "buy" button, while on legacy you simply click on the item. Plus only the item has a border with the name, price etc. simply underneath. Thus everything needs less space, even though the item is in original size.

Alphabetical item order in shops, no longer hotchpotch

item search in shops is back (only necessary until shop search proper works, right?)

all items on 1 shop page!!! With that in place we don't necessarily need the in shop search, because we could use strg F/V

Drop down menues no longer hiding and actually usable, yeah!

Same for questing item info on top row

Missing: acknowledgement of purchase, not even when bought from "extra item info". Backtabbing to shop results in a 404 from "extra item info" or to top of page purchasing from original shop page. Of course we don't have item hovers in legacy NPC shops at all (which is good, because you need to know by hard, which items are rare and worth buying), but having to click "extra item info" in order to be able to get to the clickable item "hover" info defeats the purpose of keeping it a mystery plus just adds more time investment and clicking.

I'm excited about these changes! I don't think you noted this, but I also like that (at least as of today), you can't click on an item image to get the price right from the shop page. I think it makes restocking more fun that way :). And the smaller item images (and maybe item padding?) are great. I think some of the changes you listed aren't working properly though.

At the very least item stock limits seem to be broken. Check out this item - Nuclear Zentu Plushie, r90, has 33 in stock. According to your new stocking limits, it should have max 8 in stock.

I think the 500 item limit is going to work really well for some shops, and really poorly for other (e.g. plushie parlor). I'm interested to see how it affects the apothecary, since that's bloated with a lot of elixirs. The items I'm interested in - boosters, potions - might be less likely to come up now.

Separately, I'd love to see these features added:

  • Sort by item id (+1 to Keliora's suggestion). This is what I'm used to in legacy shops. It also means that when new items are released (admittedly rare nowadays) it's easy to go to the bottom and find the new items
  • Reduce size of header and shop filter options. When I open a shop page, I can see one row of items, compared to 3 in legacy shops.
  • Main Shops link from a shop page, somewhere near the top. This would make for easier nagivating. As it is, I often end up editing the url just to get to the https://kumos.subeta.net/shops page

As far as r99 goes - I think once a month would work for some shops but I think maybe twice a month would work better for items with more r99s that it needs to circulate thorugh. As long it's not per shop (as the shop will only see r99 per month even if it has more 12 r99 items), I don't necessarily have an issue with it.

I like the compact layout but I feel like I'm shopping blind. I have no idea if I have my limit or not. I find myself trying to buy things I already reached my limit off.

Mostly, I'm going to wait and see how things turn out right now.

In the View all Items list, if you buy the item out, it forgets that it ever was stocked in the first place.
