in the other beta topic, we’re working on quests—something we build, provide, and tinker with. this, however, is a chance for us to build something that lets you show off your creativity and challenge each other.
while working on things, i often get distracted by ideas i’d love to see on the site but haven’t had time for... until now! today’s feature test is: avatar contests.
we already have a whole forum for this, plus plenty of external sites dedicated to it—so why not streamline it right here? i’d love to see more avatar contests happening on-site (and automate the process when i want to host one myself 😉).
Contest 1 ended, but two (https://kumos.subeta.net/wardrobe/outfits/contests/2) is up - this one has item prizes. These are CWs I grabbed out of my wardrobe, and you can see when it'll automatically transition to the voting phase.
It will then hand out those prizes the right place - hopefully a ton of transparency for how the process works!
you’ll see all of your public outfits as options. if your outfits aren’t showing up, you may need to change them to public (by default, they’re unlisted): edit your outfits here.
right now, only i can create contests—but soon, you’ll be able to create your own! here’s the breakdown:
when creating a contest, you’ll set an sP prize pool (this gets deducted right away) and optionally add a join fee that contributes to the prize total.
prize distribution options:
i want to know what additional rules you’d like to see for contests—what would make you excited to host one on-site?
also, would you like the option to distribute item prizes in addition to (or instead of) sP? share your thoughts—I’m excited to hear them! ✨

Omg, this is amazing. Imagine allowing creators to host contests featuring an HA wearing their own upcoming CW release, and the winner of that contest receiving the CW on item release. yesss, we need item prizes 🔥 lmao
Armpit Goblin
that's the idea! i want to be able to have official ones that we host more frequently, and can have special NPC prizes or the like - and then ones that are hosted by users being able to use the same tools

I think this is a really nice feature!
I think "Required Item" could be a nice rule since it's fairly common. Host could choose an item that must be used, or simply "none" (as in no item requirement).
Generally the contests I've joined have had prizes that aren't sP (for example, choose a CW or a WL item or something). But this system doesn't inhibit that at all so long as there's no minimum prize pool required. So the host could make the "official" prize 1sP and utilize this feature to host their contest, and then could send items through the gift center like it happens now yeah?
Love this idea! Avatars are a huge part of the site, I love seeing everyone's entries! I agree being able to set a mix of items for prizes would be best, otherwise I have no extra ideas hahah
I'm also very excited 🤩 I'll have another test one up in a bit, with item prizes.
the creator of a contest can choose to give prizes to 1, 3 or 5 people, so figuring out how to get the item holding to work is a little tricky - but I think being able to give out 5 CWs to winners (or other items) would be really cool.
and then hopefully in the next few days i'll be able to open up creating a contest to a few folks -- i'll add you to the list!

Too bad I'm always too late to enter finding out there's something being tested... :(
That being said, an anonymous entries option would be nice (toggle on/off as part of the rules of the contests). So avatars without usernames showing, so "popular" users don't get votes for being said user, but solely on the avatar.
Next to that, another rule regarding entries approval, could maybe be setting certain pre-fixed sets of rules, like only allow new users (less than 1 year account), old users (over 5 years or whatever), only allow members from a certain forum group (if those can be linked automatically), have a max amount of entries, etc.
Here we go - round two of testing https://kumos.subeta.net/wardrobe/outfits/contests/2
This is the second contest I'll be running which hits most of the rest of the pieces of code, including... item prizes! the top five winners will get a prize, that I've been able to set.
I also did a pass on the creation page, to try and make it as understandable as possible.

whew that crashed kumos 😰 have some queries to clear up, but that's why we test!

I can only select older outfits even though mine are all public. I don't see an option for a next page.
What happened to the site contest that involved creating an inexpensive avatar for new users? Have the results been decided?
This idea is really fun!
Is there a functionality somewhere that tells us the total worth of a saved outfit? If there isn't, is that something you'd consider implementing? Otherwise having an SP value limit would be a barrier to participating I think, though I like the idea of having one.

[/box]I agree with about the value of an outfit. I think more clarity regarding CW value would be helpful. I just assumed a value of 100mil per CW (which is much higher than they're worth, imo) to be safe.

If you go to your outfits page it does tell you the total cost of sP items! Here's the outfit I entered where it shows mine as ~85mil. If you go to this page and click the picture of each avatar you'll be able to find the page that shows yours.
It doesn't currently show CW worth though, but I guess it'd be harder to calculate that, for example two of the CWs in the above outfit are in user shops for 10k csc each but I bought them directly from the CW shop a couple months ago for 300csc each (from the CW sale). So because a lot of users put them up in shops at a high price to signify trades a CW calculation would need to take into account original prices, not just user shop prices. (Not to mention that valuing long retired or private CWs might get tricky.)
@ brokensafety If you want the long way of estimating, you can go to Cash Shop>Item>CSC card and calculate the value based upon the worth of the cards and the CSC the wearable cost.
It doesnt yet - but it'll do a base calculation for the CWs for price. I'm thinking that will usually be used as a kind of challenge for people, and meant to be hard. i'll make sure it gets added in before (and the calculations on the outfits page reflect!) the cost of a CW if we haven't seen one purchased in the shops before.

I'm sorry, but I'm not going to participate in this event. It has nothing to due with the site or the event. It's me. I don't like playing Subeta on mobile phones and tablets because when you get in the wardrobe the screen can't fit everything. I need to get a new computer.
Good luck to all that enter the contest! ❤
That is such a tasty server error!
(i'm goofing, this is exciting and i can't wait to get into it - tomorrow, i'm going to bed, i'm sure it'll be alright tomorrow!)
