I'm gonna be shameless and link a very old forum group suggestion compilation topic I've made so you can pick and choose. A lot of these suggestions are still relevant, imo, but I am not a super active group user any more so I am kinda out of the loop as far as forum group user needs go. 🫠 (Subeta needs updated forum emojis tho, I'm begging)

Well I have been banned from posting any images on the forums. I have been here long enough, The staff member should have one realized that I try to following any given rule here. If I was having any issues like understanding the image sizing, which I was having issues with. My knowledge of coding and pixels are very limited. Because I am one of the older users in age. It would be nice to have a system that would help users that have little understanding of image sizing. Frankly I was very upset, and just dropped it. I seriously just wanted a small image of my forum group I participate in. Staff member just mention size once, and I was trying to get it smaller with how little I knew. My second attempt with smaller image I thought, and I got restricted from ever doing that again. which was shocking, because both attempts were made on the same day, I was in the middle of trying to fix it. No question from staff about any issues I might be having. I have no clue on pixel sizing. it would be nice to submit an image to a staff member or system, that would correct image sizing for those of us that need help. I seriously only want to post 2-3 self rotating images related to my forum group, that I never have to worry about or change again. I am very attached to Subeta, and didn't mean to make an issue. But I would really like some help in lifting this ban on me, and help sizing the images to the standard they are suppose to be. I am not the only subetan, that is not highly knowledgeable about coding or image sizing. I am speaking for myself and other subetans. Please can there be a system in place to help us. We dont want to violate any rules intentionally, we just want to enjoy subeta like other subetans.

the group search is my big # 1 (SORRY # 1 GROUP) thing, but here are my other things i'd like to see:

1. let me pick if people are notified of me kicking them out of a group - sometimes i just want to quietly remove someone from a group without them knowing. not to reveal the Secrets, but i know some ppl just create new private groups instead of removing people from their groups because they don't want to remove people from groups as it notifies them, so i think this would be a great QoL improvement (and pretty easy to implement?)
2. let me HIDE hide my private groups - would be nice if no one can see certain groups if the group is fully hidden. like, they should not know it exists unless i say they can be in it type of hidden.
3. let me block people from joining my groups (even if they're public) - if i have someone blocked, i should be able to choose if they interact with my forum groups (just like i should be able to choose if they interact with my cw shop, although i know that's a conversation for another day lol). even if it's on a group-by-group basis, being able to 'blacklist' users would be great.
4. sort & filter groups i am a part of - it'd be great to be able to see which groups have been active recently and which ones havent so that i can leave the old ones that dont get any use anymore
5. polls - just would be nice to let people vote on things.
6. let me change the ping hashtag thing for my group - there's probably some kind of backend code reason for this, but would be a good QoL improvement. not vital, but especially could see it being useful if someone changes their username and had their username in their tag (for example, my cw group is # boocw, but if i changed my username... that would be confusing lol)
7. improved discoverability - not sure what a good solution would be here, but would be nice if there was a better way to browse groups. maybe tagging them? like, we could have a CW tag for groups related to CWs, an ART tag for groups related to art, a commissions tag, a social tag, a battle tag, etc. etc. i think this would increase the number of people talking and making friends and generally being social within groups.
8. don't let people spy on me in my private groups - i think this is still a thing, but i used to go into ppl's post history to see if they were slotting on cws i wanted in their private groups before they released the item. groups i wasn't a part of. i obviously couldn't access the full forum thread, but i could read individual posts by specific users by looking at their post history. this is kinda lame, especially if you're trying to have private conversations in private groups.

i know that a lot of ppl use discord instead of subeta, and probably for a lot of reasons, but i do like the idea of getting more activity on the forums by improving the functionality of the forums & forum groups. i've used both discord and the forums. i do like the idea of having a forum group chat functionality as i could definitely see myself transitioning to using this instead of discord for the handful of things that i do on discord, and i think there are opportunities specifically in cws to further integrate forums and forum groups into this process, but here are some thoughts i have about discord vs. forums (not specifically the forum GROUPS, but they're pretty intertwined and also i just am trying to give my perspective so that yall [the problem solvers :) ] can turn it into magic or something!) benefits to discord:

1. i don't have to host images externally - i'm not sure if this is something subeta can feasibly solve, but i just copy/paste an image into discord and there it is. i don't have to go to imgur and host it there to be able to show ppl the image like i do on the forums.
2. WYSIWYG editor - i can just CTRL+B on my keyboard to bold stuff, CTRL+U to underline, etc. much easier than typing the BB code, but this is a small thing.

anyway, these are just my initial thoughts. i'll come back if i have more thoughts but im very in favor of updating forum groups!

I am not banned from posting images- but honestly, I didn't even realize there were such strict restraints! BUT I am also on the older side and I don't fathom coding well either, I don't even know the sort of basic coding I know how to do. I don't remember where or if Subeta has a help section on what codes work, I haven't really used the forums in a long time for chatting- sometimes I participate in avatar contests. I hope this image thing can get resolved, it really sucks getting punished for not knowing enough/better.

Otherwise, I can't imagine how to make online forums better.

i know forum groups came from what used to be the guild system and we moved away from that, but i think some functions from that coming back might be fun

i remember being able to make like a homepage for your guild & customize it and whatnot. i wonder if having a customizable central hub sort of thing would allow for even more creative space within subeta land. i also think it could help with discoverability. made a great point about it -- having a tagging system or something similar would make it way easier to find groups related to your interests. this could even be what the broken interests feature on profiles wanted to be lol. i say the "hub"/homepage could help with discoverability because often times when looking through forum groups to join, i have no idea what the group is for since all you can see is a description and the group's members.

i like the idea of chat for forum groups. i don't think it has to be super intensely made or anything. i think a revamp of the current forums for ease of use + adding a forum group chat would do a lot of good. revamping sCode would also be nice. i'm fairly used to it at this point, but it can be time consuming & daunting for new users/people who are unfamiliar with coding/etc.

Seconding this! That was a while back, huh? Also seconding the chat. My other thought would maybe be integration of group events-- I don't quite know how this would work, but being able to do seamless item giveaways, prize dispersal, maybe something to do with gaming events?

Hi Keith, I know this isn't exactly what you asked for since I don't use forum groups (out of the 7 I'm in, I think only 2 are actually active) but I was encouraged to throw in my two cents anyways 😅 If you're looking for reasons why I go and post to Discord instead of the forums, then please feel free to read below!

A big part of why I prefer talking/posting on Discord rather than forums is that it feels more instant and real time-y. Subeta used to have the shoutbox as a working widget that would update me on whatever sort of topics were being discussed and I'd join in if I liked the topic or say hi to friends. Now that it's been tucked away to its own dedicated page I find myself not looking at it at all. And the forums don't really offer that kind of thing either, but Discord does.

I know it's not exactly what you asked for and I can only really speak for myself, and I'm not sure if anyone else feels this way, but I "worry" less posting on Discord. It feels for one more casual and two, there's a limited amount of channels I can post to so I don't have to put as much thought into where my question or comment goes. Subeta's Discord has a lot less channels than the forum does and I think that benefits talking and discussion. With every topic/subtopic that Subeta has, the less a person actually sees on the forums if that makes sense (because you only really see the posts on the subtopic you click and not the whole category.)

A way to change the owner of the group, through the years, some left or some sadly passed away, but if I'm not wrong it's currently impossible to change the owner.

~in the interact tab at the top of the page in the site menu, at the bottom of the forum drop down, it says s-code reference. Those are the basic site codes that work here for a lot of things. like posting a custom wearable or other item image code [item=*Blueberry Lemonade Candy Drop Skirt] The * taken out makes this. if that's at all helpful?

Okay, to Keith: I would like to be able to have a private real time conversation because honestly the profile comments are...slow and awkward, sMail even more so. sMail is private but it's..not always reliable. Also using the shout box without having to have yet another tab open. As for forum groups, more interactivity yes plz, Maybe being able to tie it more easily to other forum pages related to the groups. Also we really do need a category/search function for the forum groups.

Groups don't pull my interest, honestly, but a brand-new lovable pet koala to train sure would. The other thing I'd love to see? Please bring back plots!! Those were fun.

It would be nice if there was a drop down menu on the chat page with the various coding options. I'm getting there on learning the basic codes, but having a reference to hand would be welcome. Though I can understand if this isn't possible to add. When I'm joining in with the games on the forums, it would be nice if there was a way to alert us that someone else has posted. Some of the games do move quickly and it would be nice if something like an icon popped up to let you know you need to refresh the page before posting. Maybe a review of how you get forum points for the shop? I know they're allocated randomly but it can be frustrating when you're working on gathering up points for something. Do you think you could have a buff to get a few more? Or how about a quest giver involved in teaching how the forums work? They are more likely to give forum shop points and provide a space for those looking to improve their skills to learn how to do things. Think Major Drills but with less ranting. The quests can encourage chatting and show how forum code works. Just a thought. I have to admit, I would like the ability to post pictures in the forums though I can understand why this is very tricky. The question of copyright is more of a nightmare than coding. I would like the ability to save certain posts somewhere. For example, I run a Secret Santa every year. I have a rule set for it which helps make sure things go smoothly. But I keep misplacing them and have to find them again each year. Or rewrite them. If I could save a template of them somewhere, that would be very helpful. If I think of anything else, I'll let you know. If I think of any more, I'll let you know.

Like 1 overall tag for the entire group, but people could opt-in to get separate/extra pings (checklist), for example:

i'd also like to add on: consolidation of notifications if you're pinged in one post for multiple forum groups. i don't know how the backend handles pings or if this is possible but i would die for this and i'd be happy to help test it! to me, right now, forum groups are little more than glorified ping lists and i've pretty much even stopped using my own in favor of the cw shop events form because it's tiring to format posts in more than one place. on top of this, i personally know i get overwhelmed from getting sometimes up to 3 notifications for one single post because there are 3 different forum groups tagged in it but i can't leave any of them because if i do i'll miss something else i wanted. i'll be gone for a week for one reason or another and come back to a wall of notifications and half of them are for the same few posts.

I think my idea maybe off topic, but can the Garden gets alerts so the plant doesn't die. I use my statue to remember to go water my plant.

I can't really say anything specific, but I was trying to read old posts and look for forum rules for the old billboards (I don't get on very often anymore), and I was looking for a place to post my question, and none of the topics seemed relevant. So, then I decided to promote my cause in the forums (I need votes for Face Of Horror) instead of making a billboard.. but I was scared to make a new post asking for votes, because I couldn't find the rules on "Asking for contest votes".. So I guess I'm saying that certain things aren't easy to find. I could only find a post from 2019, and it was unrelated. ..So, maybe a more advanced search?

Like I said, I'm not on much, and the site is beautifully updated everytime I come back.. so maybe I'm just missing something. :)
