i'd like to echo that getting multiple pings for the same post is tiresome to sort through. some will tag the larger customerwear group in addition to their smaller, creator-specific groups, and the cw creator's art group in one post and i get a ping for every group. it's not annoying, but being able to consolidate that into one notification would be a great QoL thing.
also, if there was a way to sort through forum groups as a whole to find new ones to join, i would like that. for example, if a forum group is private, it should be indicated as such and not show up in the search (unless, maybe, you check a box to search for private groups). a toggle like the cw shops and being able to only look at unlocked cws is exactly what i mean.
If the official subeta staff are using them, like the siteupdate, make it possible for me to browse all the recent pings in that group. Actually, that should be a feature for every group.
I love the many suggestions that were put forth on the forums years ago, on Frost's thread. Overall I'd just like to see any site feature be complete, without unfinished pieces, before a new project is begun. The forum groups were never "finished" and that seemed like a big deal at the time because guilds cults were removed. So overall it would just be cool to see a complete feature.
Keith, it has literally no other function. X)
thank you!!!! this is great, I've got some thoughts
1 & 2: ✨ both done! ✨ the forums/news/etc are getting a WYSIWYG bbcode editor, with those same keyboard shortcuts. And, if you drag an image (up to a certain size, obviously) into the editor, it'll upload to our free image hosting (within reason). Very excited to actually be able to post images on the forums again :P
I really want to do some work on events in general and I think you've given me the push here to make it so that they don't just group by category, but also stack on top of each other for events from the same source and can be expanded. That'd be a HUGE improvement, and is possible with the new system. Thank you!
Yeah, this is largely about improving the whole "communication" across the site, starting with forums (and groups) and extending to sMail and profile/news comments. The same pinging mechanism will be used across all of them, for example (and the editor mentioned above). All existing sMail will likely be made read-only (I need to write a forum post about smail, of all of the terrible things I've done, it's probably the worst) with the ability to look at it.
excuse me, I believe you mean the old CULT system 😭 why couldn't i just name things normal. What kind of customization would you want to be able to do? Something like the notepad widget, where you can just write whatever, and use it as a kind of place to keep updated, or with separate pages or ...

I would love to have a gallery and shop for the forum group! That way we don't have to use a personal one for Forum Group purposes. The shop would work like regular shops, but all the money would go into the group's bank when withdrawn instead of to your on-hand amount; while the gallery can work to display prizes for Group events/activities and giveaways :D
Just like there is subscribe to threads to see when posted on, I wish there was unsubscribe that would mean any pings to my groups from that thread would be suppressed. There's been giveaway threads where I got like five-fifteen pings a day for weeks on end and I got super sick of constant pings from that thread, would love to be able to block those when really not interested.
Using emoji in forums by actually typing the emoji is my biggest wish for forums.
Personally I feel like private forums has taken a lot away from the activity of general forums, whilst private forums do have their perks, I think it makes the site more insular and it's harder for a newer user to break into the community since a lot of site activity is hidden behind private forums.

I completely understand feeling that way. However, one of my goals is to make the "public" (which is the majority) groups more present on the home page of the forums, even if you aren't part of the group. For example, a trending topic in a completely public group might show up in recent topics or posts, pushing folks to join to chat on those topics.

LOL i could not for the life of me remember if it was cults or guilds so i just went with the more neutral word. i should have known it would be cults :P
the notepad widget is a good comparison! just a blank space for some text or code.
a better way to explain what i mean is closest to a home page. so like rn we have the group name, description, members, and what's in the bank. i meant it as a separate page (or even a few!), but even just an enhanced description editor could achieve this/some sort of widget. groups could use it to advertise exactly what the group is or even just as a hub for their members, putting upcoming events and the like in it.
idk if that makes sense, just let me know if not :) i can draw up a sketch to show some example ideas if you want
also, while i've got your attention, thank you so much for all the upkeep happening! i love seeing subeta users provide feedback and changes happening <3 i'm especially excited for kumos

Is this going to be built in a way that having a long list isn't going to hurt the site or server? Is this going to available to everyone in the group? We use forum groups to making biting easier during Survival, so there's a lot of groups (one for each strain) getting pinged hundreds of times each Survival. It sounds useful overall but I would like to make sure that the bite groups don't break the site because their ping logs are going to be massive.
As for other features, I remember wanting a bank log but I don't know how useful that would be to everyone. Some people left some a few million in the banks in the bite groups before and because I didn't know who that could have been, I couldn't ask if they meant to do that. They weren't admins so they couldn't take it back if it was a weird mistake.
I also think the shared items thing could be useful for in-group giveaways. I have a category in my vault for this but if I could just have those items saved in a group instead (so that all my CSC cards don't go to the giveaway category) and everybody in the group could see what is up for a giveaway, that would be amazing.
ALSO can we have a bigger file size for logos? It's tedious to play the crop game until it's finally small enough to upload.
I would like the most current post to be on page one and not always having to go to the last page to read the most current posts.

This is an example of a forum related page that could work better: This type page is so useful in trying to connect back with a group but the bottom "forums, + create new forum" doesn't seem to work right.
Why does it seem like every time something like this comes up, server strain comes to the party and promptly crashes it. I want server stability with what we have, not with things that could ultimately ruin a lot of things for a lot of people.
A reopening of moderation positions would also be a good place to start, I think. Or at least, dare I say, when was here on a coding position, there weren't so many severe server hiccups. I think it's safe to say that the wardrobe layering thing is kind of a moot point at this time because it's been how many years of a new wardrobe beta and we're still (seemingly) in the beginning stages of that. Everyone's used to having whatever amount of items on their HA and it hasn't broken the site yet.
Those are forum/site related things. Now, on the actual topic of the groups...
Doing away with the +20 ping notifications would be great and a ping history would be as well, if they aren't already things. Especially during massive events like Survival or Masquerade. I left quite a few groups over the sheer number of pings that I'd get. I don't mind helping out, I really don't, especially when I know how it is to be passed over in site-wide events but the sheer flood of pings makes it hard to catch up.
I have a boat, I have a creek, I'd like a paddle. Or a rudder.

When "Move Topic" broke it was a nightmare for We use several forum groups to coordinate, and losing the ability to move useful information out of our work groups into our social group (or from the Menu group to the Generic ping group, etc etc...) was a loss we've been awkwardly working around ever since.
I know it was removed for a reason, but it seems like there must be some way to give thread movement back to group mods (maybe with an approval step from the receiving Group or something?) without compromising privacy for public/site forums, surely...?
I totally agree! Multiple forum pings for one CW release is tiresome.
Yeah, would be nice to have pings able to be toggled on and off without loosing being part of that forum group. (If that is already a function, I'd like it more clear as I've not heard of it, ngl)
Anyone want some Ferret Nibbles? 0w0
There are CWs you can't buy if you're not a member of a group that nobody can join because the owner is no longer here.
Private forums have many uses that have nothing to do with socialising and making new friends.
CW releasers who do private/exclusive items can use them to arrange sales.
I don't do those types of items, but I sometimes want feedback on potential releases that comes from the people who actually buy and like the kinds of things I like to make: exotic pets, anthro helper items, and fancy formal clothes from eras long past or far in the future.
I have a private group that only I am a member of that I use to organise my Subeta activities. It has posts for holidays where I can list all the flower/kiss/dance/tot links for all my friends by using the code, since visiting profile pages doesn't help when people have fancy layouts that hide that stuff, and also keep track of the contests I've entered. You miss nothing by not being able to see these posts (or not spying on them under the current situation) except possibly surprises on Lumi.
I'd cry buckets if I couldn't layer massive amounts of items on my avatar and so would a lot of the CW/HA people.
My current avatar has 22 layers of makeup before we even get into hair and clothing and background items. (That is how I do the 3D effects on the avatar's face, for one thing.)
