also, i've put this in entertainment instead of tv/movies bc i don't just want to talk about televised wrestling, but also live wrestling!! anyone go to shows in your area, esp independent shows? we have two big indies in my area, unsanctioned pro and ohio wrestling alliance/owa (sorry for facebook link lol) and in fact the former has a show later this month, streaming on i think fite tv?

i Personally only really watch aew and only kind of half watch it. i'm big into danhausen (was into him before he was big lol), best friends + oc, any horror themed wrestlers really (abadon!!!!!!). and More.

I got into prowres through a friend introducing me to the saga of the golden lovers in .... 2017, maybe? And I was flabbergasted by the sheer beauty of their story, and how there existed a whole new media form that I hadn't ever really thought about as a platform for storytelling, since all my life I had thought of it as silly machismo and fake sports, period. And I was so so wrong!! I mean, it's that too, but there's just so much nuance to it and genuine, heartbreaking stories and comedy mixed in with absolute banger theatrics and athleticism, so what's not to love?

I used to be an avid NJPW enjoyer more or less until uhh.. last-ish year or so, and I've been following AEW since they started. Sometimes I watch some joshi matches if I can get my hands on any, but rn I'm not subscribed to any services, since Fite messed up with the AEW subscriptions to Finland and now I'd have to wait a month to see any content, which is just ridiculous.

My faves are pretty much the same from Aew, especially orange + danhausen and best friends, they are genuinely so much fun. I've been following Kenny's career ever since I started watching wrestling, so he has a soft spot in my heart, and now I'm on the edge of my seat waiting for Ibushi Kota to appear on AEW, their story just can't be over yet. Hangman Adam Page compels me, it's been such a joy to watch him grow as a wrestler. Also Jade Cargill is amazing!! djfgh At this point I'm just name-dropping wrestlers, I just like. so many of them.

Other favourites are also The Rainmaker Okada Kazuchika, Zack Sabre Jr, Switchblade Jay White, and Sho & Yoh (although they have separated now, but I believe in them). Also Takahashi Hiromu and El Desperado's long-lasting enemies to ??? plotline is just incredible.

Hikaru Shida, Utami Hayashishita and Tam Nakano are also all super neat, and I would love to see more of them.

My all-time favourite wrestler still has to be Ibushi Kota though, he's just such an enigma. For a man who speaks very little in the ring and out of it, he can tell such compelling stories, and high-flyers in general just have my heart.

I used to be all about that scene back when I was about 8 thru 12. Then I sort of stopped. I was into the WWF (yes before their name change to WWE) I remember a lot of the old Wrestlers with other names they went by. I remember feuds and reveals... ah man it brings me back.

Still holds a place in my heart though. The Undertaker will forever be my favorite!

omg that's SO AWESOME that golden lovers introduced you to wrestling!!! i got into it in middle school (so around 06-07) with wwe, i watched a tribute to the troops and was instantly HOOKED, something just switched on into my brain and where i thought it was too violent before (i was a sensitive kid haha), i was suddenly obsessed with it lol. i also grew up watching tna/impact and a little wsx, and then got into chikara in high school!!

understandable re: njpw, i've loosely kept up with them and have heard multiple others complain about the direction the company has gone. also GOD yeah jade cargill is FANTASTIC and she's only going to go up from here imo!!! speaking of the aew women's division, ABSOLUTELY willow nightingale, her vibes are IMPECCABLE.

god ibushi is like. a MANIAC (positive). god despite how he is outside of the ring one of my faves all time is unfortunately chris jericho. he's just. fantastic at what he does. others include danhausen (met him after his debut roh show and he sold me and my partner and friends tshirts out of his car haha) and (redacted chikara wrestler who hasn't been publicly canceled but i did discover he follows an unsavory account on twit so i unfollowed him).

yeah i've always had a weak spot for high flyers and just, promo/story content over matches tbh.

i was like Alive when it was wwf but wasn't Into it then. i'd definitely recommend checking out modern wrestling, though, in a lot of ways it's gotten so much better than it used to be!!

that's so cool that you got into wrasle that early! I think i remember seeing smackdown being on telly around the time i got off from school when i was a kid (i live in finland, so it was never really quite that big as it is in the us etc), but i also remember my main thought being "I want to watch cartoons, can these men be done with their feuds already" lol.

And yesyeysyeysyes!!! Aew's women's division is absolutely gold, I wish they would utilise them more and let them actually DO stuff!! Come on, one match per 4h PPVs? do better. Willow Nightingale is such a delight tbh, she's gonna go far I hope ❤️

And yeah re: Jericho, sadly he's SUCH a charismatic guy and like overall a great wrestler, it's such a shame that in his personal life he's . what he is. But yeah I gotta say I also quite enjoy him in the ring. And yikes, the other wrestler... following your gut instinct is always a good thing, chances are they're not all that great. But the Danhausen story................... amazing. He seems exactly the type to do just that :''D

god yeah danhausen absolutely RULES, i know like part of it is putting on a persona to get people to buy things from you but he honestly just genuinely seems like a nice guy. ;v;

I haven't had time yet to watch all in, all i know is that Them Babes Are Back In Town!! and now with their matching gear too ;; I really wanted to book tickets to go see it live since flying to London isn't that big of a hassle from Europe, but first I had a running event scheduled on that date and then I ended up with nasty covid, lol.

Although lol, it's silly to say that they're only now sporting matching gear, since Kenny has been simping it with a star on his outfits basically for several years now, especially for big matches. I can't wait to watch their sixman tag, I've missed Jay White so much and getting Hangman and the Lovers? A treat. I'm still a little upset over the fact that the commentators called Golden Trigger a V Trigger or sth during the blood and guts match, when part of the move is to literally shout out the name. How did that go. Also in general that blood n guts match was such a mess, I'd like to have a word with whoever was directing the cameras and deciding to cut away from the Lovers' first embrace in literally four years and instead film Wheeler Yuta having a little naptime on the floor or whatever. I hope the All In one is better directed.

AND YESS I've been hearing rumours about Mercedes,,, please please please I need a proper women's league. I really wish AEW put more effort into the women's division, I'd love to see 1) more matches per ppv obv, 2) in general just ... more actual storyline building. It would be lovely to see more of the G1 climax tournament -> WK type of story arc building, since that type of tournament lends itself so well for feuds that build the stories, and actually keeps them alive for more than one tournament.

Also I gotta ask. What's your opinion on CM Punk lately? because imo he's incredibly entertaining in the ring, but outside of it he's behaving like a cranky toddler and honestly I don't see why Khan is still tolerating his actions. Certainly adds to the drama though, I'm just not sure if it's the type of drama he should be angling for.

i watched full gear on saturday and honestly the only match i was super invested in was hangman/swerve which, while insanely bloody, absolutely RULED tbh. everything else i was mild or mildly surprised at but like. Man.

👀 well you've come to the right place!!! despite my Thoughts on the product right now, i'd still absolutely recommend all elite wrestling/aew over wwe. though i will say that it also depends on a few things: how much time you have to spend on getting into it (there is a LOT of wrestling in any given week), how much Money you have to spend getting into it (not even like merch wise but like, streaming services, cable, etc; while you can absolutely pirate wrestling, you may just want to get cable to watch, or something like Sling), what you're looking for in a product (i am NOT the person to go into that unfortunately, but like. american wrestling is gonna be decently different from japanese wrestling, which is going to be decently different from mexican wrestling/lucha libre, not to MENTION the differences between companies in those countries). also 'how much time' may also include like... let's say you wanna get into japanese wrestling, but if you're in the united states, you have to take into account that if you want to watch it live you're gonna have to stay up ungodly late/get up ungodly early, though of course there is the option of watching Not Live but you run the risk of spoilers (which goes for any event, really).

also, i would be remiss not to say, if you are interested in getting into wrestling, definitely look into your local pro wrestling scene, if there are any indies in your area/near you!! genuinely i have more fun at the smaller indie shows i go to than the bigger wwe/aew shows tbh lol.

but no yeah for easily accessible (tnt/tbn) wrestling i'd absolutely recommend starting with aew, on wed nightsat 8-10pm est

OH THE HANGMAN / SWERVE........... i can be sooo normal about it sosososo normal. (<- she is clearly lying. ) that was truly one of the matches i've ever seen, just. damn. I'm a little pissed that AEW doesn't know what to do with Shida so all she ever gets to do is to bump others which is suuper sad, I need proper storylines for her, about her. But at the same time Toni's whole gimmick is SO much fun, I don't think I've ever enjoyed a character gimmick this much before?

Also Golden Lovers return but I have to withstand Jericho as a co-p*ss king was not on my bingo card but I guess I'll just have to take it for now. /:

silas already basically said everything I've meant to say, but may I also recommend this absolutely beautiful video by super eyepatch wolf about the beauty of prowrestling, it's roughly a 20 minute watch but it gives a nice little groundwork for well, everything prowrestling. There's also a bit about The Saga of The Golden Lovers, which is essentially now been going on for over a decade, about two wrestlers from different sides of the globe who immediately click, and they've been building their story ever since.

But yeah, starting with bigger promotions is definitely easier (I'm from Finland and I subscribe to AEW through Dazn, with no issues whatsoever. ) I assume WWE probably has similar apps in use, but I personally don't watch them so idk much anything. AEW has been their biggest competitor for the past couple of years now, and although no promotion is perfect, I've been mostly enjoying my time.

There's also joshi promotions (all female japanese puroresu) like Stardom that are fairly easy to stream, but it's. definitely easier to start with bigger english-speaking promotions.

If you want to test things out before purchasing a subscription, I recommend looking up matches on youtube! NJPW (a big japanese promotion) does "free monday matches" where they post old matches for free. You can find them just by searching njpw full match, there's a bunch. Also this might be one of my favourite entry-level matches that are fun and entertaining even if you know nothing about wrestling, it's an oldie from 2018, Golden Lovers vs Ingovernables de Japon (it's from CEO wrestling, so the quality is not as top tier as bigger promotions' would be, but there's literally plushie wrestling.

Oh right also, I highly recommend the going to see local promos if you can, you don't need to know anything about wrestling or the wrestlers to have a good time, the audience will clue you in when to cheer and when to boo, it's a very interactive experience!
