It would be a great idea, anyone else agree? Mansions would cost about 500 CSC or so or even 5 mil sP but houses would be cheap, anyone could live where they wanted.
I’d love to live somewhere around Subeta, wouldn’t you? but the Coda Caves would be expensive, like around 10 mil or so!
this has been suggested literally so many times in the time you've been gone and it's always been a no from everyone collectively. also, this goes in suggestions, not feedback.
in the suggestions & ideas board there's a stickied thread that has frequently requested suggestions with the subsection of 'frequently asked and denied' and it shows a list of things that are just not in the cards, subeta homes being the top one since it has been suggested a lot!
I'm sad that it's always denied, and I think the main reason was because "Neopets did it first." WELL GUESS WHAT. Neohomes are dead as a feature now anyways.
I know a Subeta home thing will never happen still, but let me dream.

I think this entire thread is unfair for two reasons:
It's as much a suggestion as a feedback thread because look how it's been responded to.

crossposting from a thread about this:
i had the realization that a home type thing could be done using the bone structure of decorating the lumi trees, it'd be rudimentary but if there is enough call for it then it could be a thing that staff could think about? have a set amount of houses and put in items to decorate for them, i dunno.
Right. I was about to cross-post your comment on the other board; If we want this site to survive, we're going to have to be flexible on hard no's from the past. Maybe not homes, but the flexibility is needed.
Perhaps...maybe it would be less of a Subeta home thing and more of just combining the idea of it and the pet farms Keith mentioned?
Make a few assets that are generic for everyone, like choice of home style (small, medium, large, mansion) and each option obviously gets more expensive as you go up in size; allow us to make an address for our home; choose an exterior house colour and have it where depending on where you live, the environment exterior is like that of the Lumi trees (obvious desert environment for the Sacred Lands, tropical jungle environment for Omen Islands). And then the interior can just be one asset that's general for all, but it has a dropdown menu of which pets are currently staying at the home. you can then send more pets to the "home" or bring a few of them back out if you want.
so you don't get to decorate the interior unfortunately, butttt you do get to have an official home and that's where you send your pets to so you don't have 100 pets listed for using an item in your inventory. You could send 90 of them to the "house" and the remaining 10 are....not, at home?
Please don't lock this board yet, I think there is merit to this thread!

We barely even have one coder. That would require massive site resources that I don't think you understand how much money and time would go into that. Subeta got other more important things to address then adding a cosmetic feature.
I remember a lot of the "definitely not" sentiments from older suggestions for Subeta homes (at the time I didn't have much of an opinion either way on that)
....however, I do like the suggestion of it being coded in a similar way to the Luminaire tree (it might be 'basic' but that works a lot better than some other pet sites who tried to make things overly complicated and flashy, then it all stops working).
But I think my favourite has to be 's suggestion so our Subeta home could be where our inactive pets live (and can be swapped in and out as desired) so it cuts down on the drop down options and also stops the system needing to call up all that data for each pet. Having different exterior backgrounds for 'homes' in each area would make the page look more creative (to cut down on artist's work, you could start with a couple of locations first, then add more in over time as homes become available in each area)... and actually that's made Keith's 'farm' idea seem more visually interesting than it did in my head before reading this thread (unintentional rhyme :P)

i just want to quote this for how much truth it holds. not to mention that things that are bugged / broken takes weeks upon months to get fixed if they're not a huge site issue and keith / staff team didn't exactly scramble to fill the secondary developer slot after left the team, only to hire a pr person years down the road (no hate to , they do wonderfully).
ambitious projects, such as coding this, then drawing a shit ton of furniture items (maybe even at different angles if rotation in this is becomes a thing) is not something that's going to happen unless there's a miracle. same goes for other ambitious suggestions such as this. i don't think it's because "neopets did it first" i think it's because "it's not needed" or "we can't" in the eyes of the staff team.
i want to close out of this by saying and disclaiming that; suggestions are fine. it's fine to hope and dream, we need something to revive this site, but there's also a reality that weighs too heavily on my mind for me to do anything but be pessimistic and wonder if it's worth it.
Behold what I managed to do in about 30 minutes:

Very poor mockups of the pet farm idea but using the house idea.
For what it's worth, Keith mentioned the idea of pet farms, or a place to send excess pets to so it doesn't keep killing the site with having to call upon 100 pets at a time when you go to read a book to someone.

chiming in here to just state the fact that i wouldnt use a feature like this at all. not really my jam. if it was added i'd be like ok whatever, but then not use it. i know its tired to say this at this point, but there are definitely things i think would be a better use of staff resources such as finishing promised things or doing stuff like plot reruns or even quite frankly keeping up the holiday schedule as is lol
Yeah, okay, we definitely don't have the resources to make anything like this now. I agree. But I don't see the harm in letting people suggest ways it could work, or things they'd like to see in a potential Subeta home. It's possible - unlikely, maybe, but possible - that things could improve in the future, enough to revisit this idea.
...okay, apparently there IS harm. Never mind dumbass me, then.
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but this idea remains rejected/denied. I will now have a quote to attach to the denial. This board and the current suggestion in Suggestions & Ideas will be locked.
Feedback is for discussion of current features, plots, items, news on site. Suggestion and Ideas is for future features or items you would like to see.
The quote I will be adding to the denial is this one: "Keith has indicated in the past that there absolutely will not be Subeta homes of any kind for a multitude of reasons. We appreciate the thought you've put into this suggestion, but this is not something that will be instituted in the foreseeable future."
