I know some might consider the very notion sacrilegious, but Subeta just passed its 18th birthday. Subeta is old enough to legally vote in its home country. And with that long history came many, many site events available for a very short time in the grand scheme of things.

We haven't had a story based event in a little while- the possessions seem to have ended, and there's been no whispers of anything else going on. So why not bring back old events? I mean, how many of us were even around for the Councilor's cruise? How many remember the details of the masquerade murder?

I know the nature of plots is that they're transient, but I think it would be a fun way to look back at the site's history. Plus, there's so many items- especially weapons- that are virtually unobtainable and so highly sought after that it's frustrating. There are so many battle challengers, story segments, artworks that some players never got to experience. I personally remember being a little kid who couldn't progress in the Steele plotline because the games wouldn't work with my janky computer. It's a shame to think that there's so much content I'll just never be able to see considering how little of Subeta is archived.

A loooong time ago, we had a plot that involved something called Advarsel, which I don't think was ever fully, satisfactorily resolved. I also have vague memories of a pie-related plot.

I don't know if recycling the old plots would be plausible (they even retconned the Masquerade Murder Mystery with the Rift plot, IIRC), but I would love the chance to have access to those old items without having to fork over an arm and a leg in the Antique shop.

I think this might plausibly be done through the rift? Bring back the Time Travel Device and use it to visit and participate in old plots?

I'd actually really like to see this happen! My concern is how old the coding is for those events. I'm not sure much of it would work anymore, and I don't know if Subeta has the resources to bring them up to date. Or for that matter, if they've even been stored anywhere.

But if that isn't an issue, then I'm down for this!

Looking to buy this!

I think using the rift to glimpse the old plotlines for nostalgia/subeta's lore sake could be interesting, but I think I'd politely vote against literally rehashing the exact same plot again for an actual site event. It just doesn't seem very exciting and is...a little lazy to be frank. Also I do think certain plot lines wouldn't work at all in the current 'subeta timeline' (Jaxon and Ian would have to get like...divorced to redo that plotline of them getting together? And then wasn't there a plot where a kid died? How would that happen again?).

Go ahead and report me for this:

Not everything has to be NEW and SPECTACULAR and SPARKLING AND...!!!

You (general) want newbies to come in, right? The forums to be active again, there to be new questers, chances at old achievements. But you're (general) so quick to shoot down retelling old plots, like cryin' out loud, you (general!) can't have it both ways. I'd love to see some of the plots retold or have it shown through the Rift or whatever. Have it be opt in or something.

Some of these achievements, prizes, etc are simply unobtainable now and there's a select group that seems to want to hoard multi-billion sP items while wanting sP sinks at the same time! (Yes, we know there's a lot of sP on Subeta, but much like in RL, it's in the hands of a select few! sP sinks for all! Except them, amirite?)

So you (general) have to slog through the plot again so newbie can get the prizes or whatever. Wow, it's almost like you're (general) helping someone else play a game for the first time! It wouldn't be the first time I've done that!

But I don't normally complain about doing so and I usually take joy in being able to share things with new players so they don't immediately turn around and leave.

Peace. ✌️

The one way I could imagine for a perfect replay of the old plots to make sense would be something like this:

The rift becomes unstable - like, really damn unstable - and either threatens present Subeta or gobble it all up and send it to the past. In either case, panic issues until [smart NPC] figures out the solution is to rehearse all the biggest moments of Subeta history as identical as possible, and thus we rush through everything in a spam of a year or something like this with the power of time travel and friendship. If it's the former setting, maybe add a "butterfly effect" where it's needed to make very teeny tiny changes in each one, just enough to stabilize the rift and nothing else (would also make a great excuse for any code, pages etc. that would have to be replaced/renewed 😏).

I understand the point of it being boring and stuff for older players but the target of this would be exactly the newer ones so I don't mind. No one can ever please everybody anyway. Plus, I know my memory is bad to the point I don't remember even the Bad Omen and Morostide plots as well as should but c'mon, some of those plots are over 10 years old, I doubt most players have them super fresh in their memories.

Yep! I've been here 16+ years and I've forgotten sooooo much! Some of these old plots would very much be "like new" for me.

Besides I'm the type to watch old reruns of TV shows/movies and reread books, so I doubt I'd find it boring anyway. I always miss stuff the first time around because I'm looking at the shiny stuff and blinded to the cute little details I only pick up with a second viewing/reading.

I love the idea of using the rift to revisit old plots! Great ideas guys. To be completely honest, though, I wouldn’t mind too much if the plots make things seem anachronistic- I mean, they could just make an announcement ‘this is a rerun of a 2008 event’. I mean, people are smart enough to watch TV reruns of a currently running show and realize that the current timeline has moved on from that point, right? I don’t think it would be too much of a problem- this site isn’t an mmo, there’s not really any immersion to break.

i'd like this, seeing as some of the plots i missed or just didnt do anything for them. it would also help with reissuing items, like those damn morse code scraps of paper!! i just want to have fun on this site again, and plots were a big part of it.

oh, this is a great idea!!! i've been on subeta 14 years, although i haven't been active for probably at least the last 8... and there are so many events that i literally do not remember or missed! i also have been away for much of the CW boom so coming back theres not a ton for me to participate in rn besides working on pets (seems like i'm too far behind in the CW aspect at this point). re-doing old plots with some minor changes seems like a good way to increase some interest and user activity while not sucking up a ton of staff resources (provided the old coding etc. is still usable)

I do think there should be a way to at least view old plots like in the Subetapedia or something, so we could see things that weren't archvived by users through screenshots or copy and pasting or whatever, but I don't know what could be done about prizes that were re-released through the Antique Shop or in other ways. I mean, if we did go the Rift time travel route, the achievements could be un-retired and so the prizes for those would be available again, but I don't think they'd be able to re-release prizes that are already available in other places.

15 years, 6 months, 1 week, 4 days I've actively participated in every plot since I joined and I'm one of those people with an oddly good memory so it wouldn't take much prompting to remember all the plots in that time. That said I would love a rift based replay of old plots. Plus there were a few plots before I started that would be new to me.

I feel like this site can get too caught up in sticking to old lore and "we've always done it this way". They make more work for themselves by insisting things fit just so. Sometimes it can be better to do some hand waving/retconning and not let the perfect be the enemy of the good.

I would love a new plot or completion of things left hanging. But in the absence of enough resources a recycled plot from the rift will make me quite happy.

I'd love to have old plots back, actually I've just been thinking recently how much I have missed during my loooooong hiatus or how little I understood when I was active as a newbie.

I'm worrying that it might be impossible for the team to bring them back because of old coding, but I don't understand anything about this.

I really like the idea of using the rift as a vehicle to re-experience old plots. I think achievements should be unretired and obtainable for new users where it makes sense. For instance, staff has said they don't want to do things like restock war or reading drive again, and some of those events had light plots I believe (maybe you would just call it lore. I'm thinking of the Calvin/Phoenix rs war for instance). So idk what they would do with those, add them to new achievements maybe. The plots that are playing arcade games and exploring maps etc should be fine to do again.

Not sure if items that have been re-released in the antique shop should be obtainable through the plot again, because it would invalidate a lot of the antique shop. Most of those were event shop items anyway, not achievement prizes I think? Also a lot of the plot pages are actually still on site, they're just not linked anywhere other than the news. SubetaLodge has a few of them. A lot of the details are also still readable in the news archive (a lot of broken images though, and nothing before 2005). For instance the Omen Islanders first plot was in july/august 2009, and the murder mystery was in march/april 2010. Either way if they reintroduce these stories/achievements, they should be permanently made available, not just re-ran for a short time again. Otherwise users who join after that point will be left out again.

I'm pretty sure nobody is disagreeing, so I'm not sure who you're having this whole rant with lol???

Re: the coding, if I recall correctly (been a member of Subeta for 14 years or so now), most of the events were simply text based, so there shouldn't be much in the way of old coding to impact it.

I would LOVE this. It would be an excellent opportunity for newer users who missed out on plots in the peak of the site to participate, and would be a great way to engage older users. The rift is the perfect vehicle for this!

I had an account as a kid and then lost it and had to make this current one. I was part of the Steele plot and all the Epicons and all kinds of cool stuff. It would be awesome to play through them again now that I'm older and gain back the stuff I used to have on that old account.

Even if this just comes down to "discovering lost records" where old plot info is posted in the Subetapedia, I would appreciate any type of way to revisit those events!! But if there's ever any way for us to fully replay old plots I'd love every second of it. I wouldn't be bored at all tbh.

Another longtime user who'd love to see a re-run of old plots. Using the rift as a way to peer back in time makes a lot of sense as a vehicle for reintroducing them. I also really like 's comment that the plot should be made permanently available, so newer users can access them at any time--it seems like a great way of gaining/retaining new users!
