Slight ramble below, but the question in tow is, "What's your witch familiar?"
After reaching the limit of unbearable boredom, I decided to plummet myself down a rabbit hole of personalized quizzes. One of which I stumbled upon was the witch familiar quiz. For those who aren't familiar with the concept, a witch familiar is in definition a spirit aiding witches in their magical practices. Be it an imp, animal, your classic black cat, heck even an insect!
My quiz result was one to which I was surprised yet immensely pleased with. A HARE!! Now, I'm a sucker for all things associated with marsupials, but hares (or jackrabbits) have always had a special place in my heart.
I can see it now, me and little Twigs concocting up silly remedies or spells together while he nervously gnaws on some sticks staring into an abyss looking as though he's wrought with insanity knowing the secrets of the universe. Haha, I dunno. Hares just have those eyes that say they've seen some things.
This really got me pondering about witchcraft as well. I'm not practicing or anything, but the concept is pretty tempting to explore.
How about you guys? Any people here on Subeta practicing witchcraft that'd like to share their stories or expertise?
Testing...testing.... Is this thing on??
I really love toads so I would love to have a nice large toad as a familiar if I were a witch or sorceress but I’m not sure how helpful a beautifully large toad would be lol!
I don’t know anything about irl witchcraft but I have one friend that practices it and one that is vaguely interested in it.
Hmm my witchcraft? My craft only come from personal feelings or inclinations. Bad energy in the house? Salt, or citrus. That's just an example. I don't actually know true witch craft, but I can feel the sun, the moon in it's phases and the earth as she breathes in her changing axis. I can feel the spirits among us and respect them. I can feel animals and they can feel me which is why I have so many precious animal friends.
A familiar? I'm not sure. But I did once have a sacred bond with a crow that, with all my heart, I wish she was still alive. We were inseparable. We slep together, ate together, sang together, and each others presences was a level of peace and laughter that cannot be explained. So a crow would nake sense.
I pray I meet my friend in the next world.

Rat. %100. My ratties were my best little buds.
I could see a squirrel maybe too, but gut says ratto
I think mine would be some sort of rodent or other small mammal!! I really love rabbits and I've been told they're my "brand", so to say, but I think my familiar would actually be a mouse or a hamster or something similar! I can picture my little harvest mouse friend running around gathering ingredients for my potions <3
I could totally see my current dog (Australian shepherd) being my familiar, if not then maybe a owl or a crow.
i do study and practice the craft irl (but i don't have a familiar, just a house cat, haha). i think if i were to adopt a familiar i would love for it to be some sort of local nature spirit.
i practice (mostly idly; work takes a lot out of me 😔 ) but i'd LOVE to have a possum familiar!! i know it's not legal in the u.s. to keep one unless you're a rehabber, but god i adore possums so much!!!
banner by Are we talking realistic animals or anything goes because if it was realistic, I'd probably either go with a standard cat or some type of bird like a hawk because I had pet cockatiels at one point, and they were adorable.
If we're talking about non-realistic fantasy animals then, probably something along the lines of a phoenix or a dragon a la Discovery of witches would be cool.
Also, adding on that I was pagan at one point years ago in my 20s', but yeah, I never had an animal that was a familiar so to speak.
If I were a practicing witch, I'd always choose a cat as a familiar. Or rather, I'd let the cat choose me!
Not a praticing witch. I have friends who are into the pegan religion. Not saying it's a fad or anything like that, just doesn't appeal much to me other than maybe aesthetic? Would have to say a wolf though, juat cause they are my favorite animal. Huge, fluffy, and dangerous. Lol. But also very pretty and deserving of respect like living things.
I think a lovely little cat would work for me~

Either a creepy clown doll, can pretend to be just another piece in my collection if necessary, or maybe a stoat, right at home when I'm out foraging and mushrooming.
Can't sleep, pendulums will get me.
I think I'd have something unconventional- a tarantula or a tasmanian devil, lol.
Now this is tough... hmm.. My first instinct is to shout "cat!" or "monkey!" since cats have always been in my family and monkeys hold a special place in my hear. But.. another part is shouting horse or boar or dinosaur (a type of raptor or a sarcosuchus just..smaller (basically a croc)
OH! scratch all of that... A pocket crocodile... maybe I could shrink one to the size or a cat...
I want to say cat since I have one right now but I think I'd rather go with something like a crow or raven. They fly for one thing, they'd be great at running little errands like fetching ingredients and delivering mail and can learn to speak too like parrots can.

I've actually thought about this in heavy detail before. My spirit animal is a bee (I even have a tattoo of one), but I wouldn't go with that as a familiar. I always default to miniature snow leopard and have yet to change my mind ;)
My cat would be it. But i know her, she would be a terrible assistant, always being dissobedient and so. So i would have to hire a second assistant lol, and in that case i would have an american black vulture (we call them zamuros in my country) ive always like that bird a lot.
