The lists are not necessarily complete, however, our team has tried our best to find everything, but we aren't perfect, and we don't all know everything there is to know, so some items might get missed. We rely on other users to help us find and identify these items!

F.A.Q.
What is the difference between a reference and tribute item?
We tend to have a lot of tribute items which fulfill multiple categories, like the Robin Williams tribute item for example. However, we feel it's better to acknowledge the passing or honoring of well-known figures for what they've accomplished overall in their life, not solely on what their best known for.
Reference items can be any item referring to anything, either based on the description or the item art, or both.
For example, Huesabe itself does not look like it references anything...until you read the description in the item hover. :D
Reference items tend to present the dilemma of whether or not the description truly is referencing a film, song, etc.. It's easy to overgeneralize an every day phrase as a direct quote from a movie.
What if the item I found fulfills multiple categories?
Still, suggest the item to the category you believe it best represents, and the TRIT team will investigate.
Overlapping items will be denoted with an asterisk (*)
How can I help in identifying reference/tribute items then?
Listing vague details or saying "I'm pretty positive..." are incredibly unreliable and unhelpful sources of evidence, as we are not completely well-versed in every fandom or fad, aside from some iconic symbols, phrases, themes, and main characters. It is important to keep the lists as accurate as possible, so naturally, we are a little skeptical at times.
Thus, we recommend posting with strong, compelling evidence to support your claim. This includes linking to multiple sources to support your findings.
These sources can be verbatim quotes, images or video clips. Typically, the more sources provided, the more likely we are to believe your claim.
On subetalodge.org, you can actually find when something was released by checking the item's info. This is extremely useful with book references.
If the item was released during a holiday or an event, try checking other items released alongside it to see if there's a pattern. More often than not, multiple items will be made to reference the same franchise.
- Please do NOT suggest Custom Wearables (CWs). These are user-generated items, and this thread focuses solely on official items released by staff.
2.) If you happen across an item that we're missing, ping one of us, particularly the category you think the item(s) belong in. - There's 5 of us to choose from, listed down below this spoiler and what sections we're responsible for. When in doubt and unsure who you should ping, then ping the admins group for this thread, - If you do not include a ping, your post may go unnoticed. Please remember to ping somebody!
3.) Please provide a link to the reference as evidence to support the item in question. This is especially important for newer fads, memes and other things gone viral; not everyone may have heard. ;)
4.) Please try to avoid pinging multiple times for the same item(s). We are human, we can't always update right away, and often update in clusters, so new items may not be added for a while; and for new event items etc. there may be several new reference items that many people identify at once, please check to make sure no one has already pinged for it.

10th Anniversary Celebration
Longcat summary: 4chan got all huffy about Subeta using their creation as a reference item. When told to take it down, Keith said no, and the site got hacked. Lots of quarreling and downtime later, the longcat item was removed and replaced with the following item:
EnderNeko summary: Two former Subeta admins disagreed with Keith's methods of running Subeta, among other things regarding financial business. In retaliation of being terminated, Ender and his wife, Neko, held the site ransom, claiming Keith had abandoned his job and EnderNeko were going to instead be in charge. However, thank to our courageous staff and loyal userbase, the site persevered and was eventually restored under a different domain, and EnderNeko were never heard of again. (I assume they went to jail for extortion)
To celebrate and thank his userbase for their love and support during this dark time, Keith gave out the following item:

references the character Dr. Rockso The Rock And Roll Clown, costume description is his catchphrase (heard in below video) and the second description... well, it'll become obvious what the powder is. Source
Futurama Bender's catchphrase "bite my shiny metal ass" but censored to abide by subeta's rules of no curses printed on images.
IT The costume bag and card are quotes from Pennywise and although the shoes goes with this set it seems to be moreso a direct quote from the author Stephen King, so I'm not sure if it should be in the "Others" section instead.
Beowulf Grendel is a character in Beowulf the creature in the item is missing an arm because he gets his arm ripped off. May be more of a reference to the character's portrayal in Grendel which is... basically a professional fanfic.

I've thought about it and I'm not entirely sure. I've never read the book, so I don't know how much Pennywise was described, and if the description matches the way the costumes look. Although if that's not really a factor, and you're able to place references in multiple sections and have these items in book and movie, then sure :)
