Thanks! If anyone can figure out if the other three flags are definitely references, please tag me--I haven't had a chance to watch the show yet.
they/them/theirs, please.
- I think is a ref to the TV show 'The Masked Singer' based on the description.
Added, thank you!
ETA: is a reference to the Shrimp fried this rice? meme
they/them/theirs, please.
: Added. Oh, and : appears to be an Ingress reference. Likewise, , appears to reference the 1991 Disney film Beauty and the Beast, in which Angela Lansbury was the voice of Mrs. Potts. (She also sang the theme, though IDK if that's relevant.)
- [Item=Irresistable Tubular Boots] is a ref to Kinky Boots is a ref to Singing in the Rain and is a ref specifically to the broadway musical version of the Lion King. I'm sure is also a ref to a musical... maybe Grease? I dunno, I'm blanking, someone else will have to figure that one out.
- Murder she Ate is specifically a tribute to Angela Lansbury, so I'll add it to the actors/atresses tributes. Thank you for reminding me I hadn't done that yet! Speaking of recent tribute items, did you add the tribute item for Queen Elizabeth and for King Jung Gi?
: That would be and , right? I've got those now. And the Angela Lansbury item really looks like Mrs. Potts to me. So maybe it belongs in more than one category.
- When they are items specifically attributed to the person it is honouring, they only go into tribute. (See for Robin Williams and for Heath Ledger)
Added, thank you! After a bit of digging, the dress is a reference to west side story-- it looks like the one Anita wears in the 2021 film version.
Has anyone caught any horror movie references in the Morostide items this year? I didn't spot any but they're definitely not my strong suit.
they/them/theirs, please.
are references to Hocus Pocus (Disney movie)
Those are the only references I noticed for Morostide so far
- Now that you are mentioning the blubs, are the other 3 cosplay blubs not also Hocus Pocus refs?
I honestly don't know lol
The zombie looks vaguely familiar so maybe? I don't actually like the movie so I don't know it very well sdlkjsdg
: The zombie one looks kind of like Billy Butcherson, and the "lil witch" might be Dani. Can't be sure about the cat, but if they're all Hocus Pocus-themed, then they kind of have to have one.
I rewatched the movie last night, the lil witch is definitely Dani, she wears that exact same hat. The other two are more ambiguous, but the dusty one does certainly bare a resemblance to Billy.
Thank you for your help! I'll add all six to Hocus Pocus.
ETA:
I got most of the rag dolls and stickers for the second wave of items but there's a few I've left off:
is an Interview with the Vampire item: is it specific enough to the TV show to put it there, or do you want it in books? Likewise, is a Coraline reference: book or movie?
and both belong in Satamoru's categories--did we ever figure out what we're doing with those?
And to everyone in general: I can't place the movies for the following stickers. Anyone know what they are?
they/them/theirs, please.
: The rag doll seems to be modeled on the show, but the sticker seems more ambiguous. And there's a zombie movie called "The Living Impaired", but it seems like a bit of a stretch, especially as the caption specifies they mean ghosts.
- Most people I know are saying that the Familiar Ragdoll is from 'What we Do in the Shadows' TV show. I don't know anything about it.
is from Beetlejuice. The living impaired one, I feel like that quote was said by someone on the TV show 'Ghosts' but I can't find it, and I'm not about to rewatch the whole show just to see if that comes up. The sticker itself and the visual don't appear to be related to the show at all.
As for Satamoru's sections, had volunteered to take it over, but it would mean starting the thread over from scratch again OTL which I don't think I really will have the time to organize until the new year.
I did a little digging and the rag doll does appear to be a wwdits item rather than an interview item (although I still think it looks a little like one of the interview protags, too!) I'll leave the sticker for Books, since it could go either place and the book came first.
And yeah, the zombie movie was the only thing that was coming up for me too when i did a google search : Hopefully someone can let us know what that sticker's about soon!
Thank you for ID'ing the Beetlejuice sticker for me!
they/them/theirs, please.
- hi, I believe the is Casper, the film.
