Not sure if this is a bug or just how the search is working right now. But it is very frustrating that it will not let me search certain people just because their name is short and fits into other players names. The drop down isn't enough.

Please change the search to show many different people like it used to, since I cannot friend or save a link for everyone I want to find on this site.

I am trying to find Riu with the User search, but I can't even find her by her pet Cheese because it gives me a different Cheese even with her name typed in the User search box. It was my understanding that the pet search would give results based on the username to solve the problem of there being multiple pet with the same name. I thought I remember trying this early on when it was first released but it doesn't seem to be working that way now, either with this user or at this moment.

However a way to find a user is to type the code

So should make a link to their profile.

You can type this in a random post, your signature, your status or if you use it, the Notepad widget on the sidebar.

[edit] Of course this only works if you're certain of the spelling of their user name. If one doesn't know how to spell it, and the search isn't helpful, its a real mess.

you can also go directly to someone's profile by typing in subeta.net/users/USERNAME.

but i agree the search system is very inconvenient and not especially usable. i liked being able to type in a name and see a results page with all the pets that had names containing that keyword. i'm not really sure why that can't still exist just because pets can have the same name now.

also when in doubt, if you need to fill a character space remember you can always use %

I really dislike the current user search feature.

I've not used the pet/user search before, and wow, it really is bad compared to the old one. Just for fun, I tried looking up one of my pets, Surf. I get only a max of 5 results, and she's not even one of them. I tried hitting enter in the textbox, nothing. Doesn't show a list of all pets named Surf.

Tried searching Elfric, and it results in 'nothing found'. Maybe the search feature is just broken? Tried Haluk, it found him. So not sure what's up with it.

The user/pet search is kinda laughably useless right now; thankfully it's something I've only used out of idle curiousity rather than need.

When I came back from hiatus (mid-February, so it's been this wonky for at least 3 months) to find that legacy names had become a thing, I really wanted to look up the names of the two pets I own that had the most enquiries (and complaints! How dare I "hoard" a name and "not even do anything with it") over the years, to find out how many people are using those names since they've become freely available. It was disappointing that I could only see five results, and not even narrow the list down to exact matches. And if my pet isn't one of the oldest of those five (pet with a 2007 birthday - yes; pet with a 2012 birthday - no), it won't show up at all.

The only time I could imagine this being a real inconvenience is if I were trying to track down an old acquaintance whose name I could only partially remember, or whose name might have been changed (numbers added at the end) due to inactivity. I suppose that makes this a low priority issue... I do wonder though, how hard it would be to change back to the way the old search worked, and if there are reasons not to (maybe the new semi-useless search function causes less lag or something)?

I legitimately had no idea. I've never used it ever. It'd be cool to have a functional one, at least. It'd be great to look up pets by name, showing both the legacy name (if applicable) and other pets with the name.

To add, I think the item search is pretty bad now too compared to what it was. D: You have to know what each item is called practically for it to work.

At one point the search feature was working perfectly. I could search for Galaxy for example, and there would be a table of all pets named Galaxy (or contained galaxy) with their species and colors. However it's been broken for a long time now, I don't know how long. It really is a bummer because I enjoyed looking up pets that shared names with mine and seeing what people did with their versions of names.

It was fine until they got rid of the unique pet names. Staff took down the search page when they realized it didn't work right anymore but it then it came back like this.

I remember that the search function did actually work after unique names were removed. Same as Yoshi, I found it really fun being able to see all of the other pets that shared names with some of the pets I have and seeing what others did with them. I can't remember why they removed it/changed it/took it down but it's a feature I really miss.

It's also really hard to find pets from specific users (spotlight winners for example ((if I don't want to try digging through a pages and pages of old news posts))) when I can't remember their UN but I can remember the pet name.

Lmao, I can't even search for myself. "Chocolate" only returns the UNs with a bunch of numbers added on, not the exact match. And I certainly can't find any pet with a shorter name.

I think because of how some computer science languages work, the priority will be name_14194814 and not just name.

I actually used one of my loyalty boxes on a UN change because I used the user search to see if a name was taken (a 5 letter word) and got excited bc it only came up with usernames that included the word, even when I hit enter in an attempt to search just the word nothing came up. When I tried to change my un I was very disappointed :(

Yeah, search function has been borked for a while, I never use it anymore. Tried once and gave up because I couldn't find my friend's UN: I knew the first word, but wasn't sure of the second, but because they didn't have a . or _ or anything between the two words they didn't come up.

That is incredibly frustrating! You should file a ticket, see if you can get the loyalty box for something else if you didn't get the UN you wanted. (maybe then something will actually get done about the faulty search function too!)

Seconding this as well! The drop downs used to be useful, but now if you type in say 'miniskirt' it only shows a max of 5 items, GL trying to find the style of skirt you were looking for. And some items are missing too, if I type in 'Arid Mortiking' the ONLY drop down I get is slippers, no beanbag or plushie. And, like the UN/pet searches, exact words don't show up on the drop down either, like broccoli.

I'm really surprised we don't even get a 'Search Results' page for a comprehensive list of results.. I was honestly expecting the non-unique names issue to be handled by doing something like ordering them by ID when there is more than one pet with a same name, not this bizarre short-list 5-result system devoid of duplicate-names. I really wanted to see what different people would do with the same names, but if I can even find the FIRST instance of the name, it still won't show me any duplicate instances....

I can't find my pet Cel if I search and instead get random "cel"-containing results such as "SirLancelotTheBrave" and "Celesta_203", and my non-legacy pet Pinocchio won't even appear on the 2-result list of Legacy-status Pinocchio and a Pinocchio_206. There are so many holes in the search results it's aggravating and useless for pet-browsing which I really enjoyed doing in my spare time on the old system, especially getting to see all the pet's pictures and getting to spot out their cool custom overlays.

I do like the improvements that have been made to the Search system, but it would be nice to be able to do the more comprehensive searches again someday with the pets+images longer list, for those who want to do deeper searches.

The newer system is working much better than before now, which I really appreciate. My old grievance examples have been solved after the updates so short-name pets are much easier to find and the non-legacies get a chance to be found now too.

I do have a few new bits of feedback to share on the new system too though, to try to fill any potential problem gaps that might become bigger problems as the Non-Legacies fill the system more. Like I mentioned above, the lower quantity and lack of images on search results is still a bit of a bummer; like maybe the "Search" button can be put back when the result shortlist isn't enough for someone, so we can get a page of more-detailed results. If I want to search for say, a Pokemon tribute pet named "Blue", the 5-result system of identical Blues lacking image identifiers makes the first layer of searching a bit more difficult. And if the first 5 don't apply to my query(I checked, they didn't), that's as far as I can get right now. If there's some Non-Legacy Blue out there with an awesome Custom Overlay I cannot find him yet. 😭

Special characters are also treating the system a bit oddly. I tried searching out my non-leg pet Angel and of the 5 Angels on the shortlist, one is called "Angel!" and one is called "angel-" and mine isn't to be found there, so just knowing there's an existing pet that I can't find on the current system bugs me a little, like a hole in the results. The special characters also seem to mess up finding specifically-named pets a little, like I tried to find the Pet Spotlight winner pet "X-D" and he's third on the list behind a "XD..." and "XD" out of lower-ID priority rather than accuracy again. I don't know how complex an issue this is to fix or modify, but I thought it would be good to note.

On a less-problematic note, I'm slightly confused on the unrelated suggestions that SOMETIMES pop up when it's run out of results.. Searching Pinocchio under the pets gives me Legacy and Non-Legacy Pinocchio and Pinocchio_207 but under that shows Hippocampus and "Bat-tastic Fresh". It doesn't seem to be doing any harm so I'm not complaining, I just don't get what's going on there. xD

Finally, I don't know if this is an issue already known or if it's some kind of selective system delay or something, but it seems like randomly some of the younger pets are excluded from the searches right now.. a couple of my youngster pets like Sourdough(June 16, ID-6007114) and Darkride(August 11, ID-6008795) don't get a whisper on the shortlist, and it seems their neighboring-ID pets have varyingly-similar results, almost seeming to get more sparse the higher the ID I look. Some of Sourdough's neighbors appear on the search results, but not all of them; but all the neighbors of Darkride I've checked so far seem to be totally absent from any search results no matter how unique the name. I'm confused by this matter and don't really have any idea what the trouble is.

This addition took a lot longer than I thought it would to write.. also excuse me for making most of the example pets my pets, they're easier for me to find on short notice. xP
