Anyone on here still frequent neopets at all???

If so, what on earth is going on with that site, I was showing my kid what neopets is, tried to check out the forums and it seems like only TNT has a forum anymore??

Also, is it just me or has it gone from a pet site to a merch site?

I thought they couldn't possibly kill their website any more, but it seems the only way they are continually able to impress me is by how hard they consistently fail.

And the boards are just chock full of people who literally kiss the entire glutes of TNT for doing literally anything other than deleting the entire site.

They will "fix" (read, bring back slightly worse than the original) something for the (terrible) new site that should have rolled out with the new layout to begin with given that they were working on it for over a year and a half, and the users will be like OMG TNT thank you for listening to us, we know you are working so hard!!!! you all are just mean complainers who are ungrateful and bullying TNT!!!!"

The bar has truly never been lower and it's sad. Even if the new site layout was just ugly and clunky, I could tolerate it if even half of the site features.....uh, you know....worked?

And then people have the NERVE to be like "uwu well TNT doesn't have much money or staff they are working as hard as they can guise!!" and it's like gestures to subeta which operates with a fraction of the money and staff and consistently communicates with players, updates their code, generates exciting site events and quality items/art that aren't just for the IRL $$$$$ parts of the site

not sure if the problem has fixed itself for you by now but all my boards are showing up, if the problem persists for you it is most likely because your account has been silenced/ie you can't use any of the communicative features on the site. If you can't send neomails or edit your profile text, that will tell you that you have been silenced.

So I just joined Subeta about a month ago, BECAUSE Neopets was sucking so much! They had years to prepare for the end of flash, and did....basically nothing about it. A tiny, tiny fraction of flash content has been converted, while they focus on their "mobile-friendly" website that looks HORRIBLE on desktop. I've been on Neopets since 2002, with several breaks, but it is just awful now! The only good thing to come of it is that I discovered Subeta, I am seriously in love with this site!

I found subeta super jarring at first bc I was adjusting from neopets and the art style/normal HUMAN characters??? was weird to me but since getting used to it i like it so much better.

the only thing I enjoy about neopets these days is the nostalgia and fondness I have from my childhood. Everything else I liked about it is done so much better here. the games were perhaps the only significant leg up neopets had, and now they are......well, god knows. floating in perpetual purgatory.

Uhh, I actually saw some neo users complaining about the recent site changes a few weeks ago. So I think there are users who aren't happy.

I believe I joined when Neo was moving servers.

I have been a semi-regular Neopets player for, like, 15 years? and I logged onto my old account today after a few months of inactivity and was thrown through a complete loop because of the new layout. It feels really clunky and unintuitive, and clicking on certain links will lead to other parts of the site that still have the old layout. I’m not well-versed in web design or the like, but I was expecting Neopets’ transition from flash to be a bit more cohesive and more thought out.

oh there are tons of players who hate it. but there is also a distinct group of TNT white knights who rage at/lecture anyone who expresses frustration or disdain for how the site has been operating and act like anyone that has reasonable concerns and expectations are bullying the people who run neopets

It seems like they are willing to push anything that will make them a buck. Which is just plain sad considering in the 90's when it was on and poppin' they NEVER had to do that kind of thing.

Hey no worries, like I said I noticed a few things when we tried to set up an account for her. I just decided to show her subeta instead, a little more mature themes, but at least I know on here she is kind of taken care of, plus I have been around for years here and can help her should she need me.

I remember they started this whole thing with the word filter first, then the pet conversions and thats around the time I gave up. They released that one key neopets board game on there as a good way for users to earn NP and rare cash items that they would normally have to pay for, that was probably the only "progressive" thing I have seen them do.

The final straw for me I believe what that stupid word filter, where if you so much as utter a word that could be taken as something else, your account was frozen or as mentioned, silenced. I joined subeta around the time a large group of users from Neo came here and honestly? It was mostly for the freedom of expression and speech.

TNT has only gotten more and more oppressive and they seem to no longer hide the fact that they are trying to make a profit now. I have to agree though, Subeta is a thousand times better and not even a fraction of the staff they have.

What's worse is they KNOW the users don't REALLY appreciate them or what they are doing to the site, before the end of flash I didn't know any other site that had a game like "Whack a staff" where you going around bonking staff members of TNT. Which I killed it at that game haha

I have also seen several reddit articles about Neo and it's just...a shame. It really is. I have so many fond memories of the early days, it almost brings a tear to my eye. Almost.

It's wild that you mention that because when I first joined the site as a kid, Whack a Staff member was a game that already existed. The site was better then than it is now.

I logged in one day, just to check my pets, you know like once a month or so.... WOW.

I have no words except how horrible it is. The new site is very hard to navigate. The TNT does not care at all. I've been an active user on Neopets since 2000-2001? I joined Subeta when it went to the Beta version in 2007... SO happy I moved here.

Now there is a huge issue of people going into your account, transferring your pet, and changing the pet completely. Happened to my Christmas Zafara.... who now is a Royal Shoyru... on a random account...

There’s been users who haven’t been happy from the start of the beta. I.e. read the early beta boards and a lot of people were not happy though one of their creator Q&A on YouTube from December of last year did say they were putting everyone permanently on the beta when flash died. Prior you could toggle between the old classic site and the beta.

I personally wasn’t expecting much and have a high tolerance threshold so I’m more of in a wait and see the end product than overall angry it happened. Neopets needs to change in order to adapt so whether it dies out or adapts enough is pretty up in the air right now, especially since there’s supposedly a neopets cartoon in the works.

I’ve also been reading the beta notes they have from each subsequent beta release and they’ll actively say what’s been fixed and what’s being worked on so they’re communicating to a degree. Their last most recent one from a couple weeks back they said they were looking into expanding accessibility and converting the rest of the maps. Games are being converted to html5 by an outside contracted company last I remember Jumpstart saying.

Neopets had years to adapt but also horrible management which I’m guessing played a huge part. Viacom left neo to rot until it was bought by Jumpstart in 2014 and then in 2017 Jumpstart itself was bought by Chinese gaming company Netdragon, and how that could of impacted direction of the site as a whole, who knows. I do remember Jumpstart when they bought Neopets let go of most of the original neo staff pretty soon after acquisition.

It's really sad what has happened to the site. I've been playing for 13+ years and still log on daily just for a couple of dailies. I've spent so much time and effort on my BD pet it's hard to walk away (even though the BD is broken).

One of the big issues is there is simply not a lot to do on the site anymore. The key game you mentioned (Keyquest) used to be crazy popular but it broke years ago and they've stated they're never going to fix it. Same with Habitarium (a game that was hugely popular and great for making NP) and the Battledome. With the end of flash, the Games Room has been reduced to a handful of games, and most of the wearables are unusable (even the ones that cost real money).

The new layout is difficult to navigate, and honestly I wouldn't mind it that much, but half the site is still on the old layout so it's impossible to get used to it. It is frustrating because no one was asking for a new layout. There is so much else that could be fixed or added to the game to improve the experience, and they toss out this half broken layout that's missing a lot of key links.

The TNT brown nosers have always been there, and it's honestly so frustrating seeing genuine criticism being shot down. The site has been going downhill for years, yet there is a seemingly large portion of the user base who is excuse everything away. Now that the site is completely broken and bare bones, I've even seen them blame the complainers for being discouraging towards TNT and scaring away potentially paying users.

The newest batch of TNT does seem to be slightly more active, I will say. I've had them respond to me directly on the boards, they've made topics asking for suggestions, and sent out surveys. But them I come on Subeta and see what truly transparent communication is.

You pretty much hit the nail on the head. I started my first account back in 2002 when basically nothing was monetized. Back then, Subeta wasn't much more than just another site where you could dress up an avatar; if you'd asked little-kid me which one I'd be more likely to stick with, the answer would have been Neopets without a moment's thought.

There are so many places that Neopets went wrong, the most recent being not preparing for Flash going kaput and this whiskey-tango-foxtrot of a half-baked layout switcheroo.

19 years since my first Neopets account, the two could make for a compelling comparative case study on building up kid/teenager-targeted sites with regard to monetization and site management. I'll admit it hurts to think that the site gave me so many fond childhood memories has gone so bad :(

15 year on and off neo user and i made a subeta on the off chance i was going to hate the change on neo and low and behold i HATE navigating the new site. i havent been on in a minute. its so damn disappointing but on the bright side it brought me here!

been a neo user since 2003? 2004? with a ton of on-off breaks during it all and the past couple years have soured me completely to the site. the staff on there doesn't care anymore, and the site just felt entirely too clunky to use (if parts of it even worked at all); i tried recently to log into my accounts and found that i couldn't -- i'm straight-up assuming that they got hacked, and honestly? i'm not that sad about it. i rarely ever played on neo anymore anyhow, it wasn't a loss to me in any manner.

Oh god, Neopets. I've been an avid player for about 15 years and still have almost a stockholm syndrome about neo. I've quit that game about a thousand times and always came back after a while. But I just CANNOT with the safety breaches. I think the last one I heard about was in december and that (+ the death of flash games) was what it finally made me deactivate the account. I still can play the flash games with flashpoint but do not have to deal with the frustration caused by the staff, which is like the best of both worlds, heh. I don't feel like going back ever again. The contents of the game have been constantly disappointing for past several years and although I have massive amounts of nostalgia, I think I'm done.

Also - it made me switch to subeta and I'm so glad I did that.
