It's been six months since our last Subetapedia pet update(Warador, on July 8th), and that's starting to worry me a fair bit; the Subetapedia is one of the good ressources for people starting to work on their pets.
Are...we going to get more updates? Because we still have a fair bit of species that don't have an article/lifelike dolls.
Given there doesn't seem to be a dedicated team to writing things for Subeta as there are artists, I... honestly wouldn't hold my breath for an update.
Unless something changes drastically.
Which I'm going to use as a lead in to the question of asking why there isn't a writing team.

I feel like a lot of things in the Subetapedia could do with being updated and/or re-written, but we don't know how many writers there are in the staff at the moment.
As for the lifelike dolls, well, I don't know if there's only one artist for them, or if there are more than one. I've noticed a lack of new pet colours recently and I'm guessing that's because of the artists being busy, I know Rah is unavailable at the moment which is why we didn't have any new rag dolls last Morostide, maybe she does most of the pet colours and lifelike dolls as well?
This isn't an official post, just my speculation! I used to write the pet articles back in the day, before I took my year-long break. Most of my time has been spent on the CW revamp since then, of course. However, when returns from her maternity leave, I'd love to discuss with her the possibility of working on more articles and some updates and the like. So again, not really an official HERE IS WHERE WE STAND ON THINGS, but just my personal wants/thoughts!
I find the species articles in the Subetapedia inconsistent, contradictory, omitting facts about the species that one might strongly think of if they were anything like their RL counterparts, duplicative, and as vague as an astrology column. It is true that sometimes art creation needs constraints, and writing stories about our pets/making pages for them is art creation. Yet, I am less concerned about Subetapedia in this way.
I have read staff type that there are stories and art already all ready for some species. They get released because of reasons like having something exciting happen in off-holiday times or because of value of the dolls or need for a new Achievement or another just got released etc.
Lifelike dolls have Achievements attached. New Achievement creation has been at a low for a year now, and this might be why?
I was 95% sure that you were involved at one point or another, so I'd be so down with you writing moar. Let's cross our fingers that it works out once Rah comes back from Twin Baby Hell No Sleep County Maternity Leave
Now that I think about it, I think we actually went most of last year without any new Lifelike dolls until the Warador ones came out, I think before that the last time there were new lifelike dolls was in September 2019?
I don't know about the achievement thing, since it hasn't really affected the new Subeautique lines that came out over the past year. I'm actually a bit glad we don't yet have any new holiday achievements since 2019 because there are already so many, and some require items that are still very expensive in usershops.
I would like to see more pet colours being released outside of specific holidays or seasons, so that we don't have to get disappointed at having to wait another literal year for a chance of a certain pet becoming available in a certain colour, especially after we had no new pets in certain "holiday exclusive" colours last year. But this is getting off topic. What I'm saying is, I hope that these things will be taken into consideration when more staff are available.
For another Subetapedia thing, I think I remember that some experiments have pages that can be accessed with links but aren't "Officially" out yet, I wonder if we will get articles about all the experiments (and the rift pets), and if there will be lifelike dolls of those too.
Good morning ladies, gentlemen and non binary fellows.
It's been nearly a year since I've opened this thread and well...the results are rather lacking, to say the least. We're closing in on a year and a quarter of no lifelike doll updates, no Subetapedia update and that's kinda a problem.
The Subetapedia is supposed to be the backbone of site lore, the go-to if we need information and updates slowing down to once-or-twice a year isn't exactly ideal.
Raffles not getting any new stock in the last 16 months is kinda sad. Someone give best girl some attention; she's worth it.
I agree and pet species information needs to account for colours like Nightmare and Bloodred. For example, the Subetpedia article for harvesters says -
It's hard to imagine Bloodred and Nightmare harvesters being benevolent spirits. Surely it would be better if it said that most harvesters are benevolent spirits but there are some exceptions.
Then there's the fact that any pet can have any job. Harvesters again.
The Clothing Rack sells clothes for humans and, logically, humanoid races like the Tehb and Ji-Meneb. It's not much use if harvesters are men's specialists, women's specialists or stylists if most adults can't see them. Surely it would be better if harvesters had the ability not to be seen and heard by adults unless they wish to be seen and heard.
Encyclopedias are always designed to cater to the majority of a species, and the Subetapedia is no exception.
The majority of the species is benevolent, but there are always a few rotten eggs.
There's no reason why the Subetapedia couldn't mention that some harvesters aren't benevolent, though.
I know there's a limit to logic where pets are concerned when a fish can have any job or fight in the arena but this irritates me from the bumbus entry.
Bumbii make remarks when they are fed, played with and read to. They can also have any job and most jobs require the ability to talk.
Anyway, on to Quentin. Their Subetapedia entry includes
This needs revising because the entry for Darkside includes
I'm sure it's possible some Bumbii can be outliers, or as they become educated, their speech becomes recognizable somewhat. like I can tell when my dog asks to go out versus when he needs water. To some degree with the gameplay features or mechanics, you have to suspend your disbelief a bit. My pets half the time say stuff that doesn't fit their character at all, it's just cute little fun text that means nothing.
The lore of the 'pedia is to simply give a basis for what is normal or expected of the species. It does not mean they all conform to the standard though. Every pet is an individual.

I think the best thing to tell new people about pet entries is that they are useful for establishing size and where the different species come from. Then they can ignore everything else if it doesn't fit what they want to do with their pets. :D
Accuracy aside (my harvester doesn't work like the Subetapedia and I honestly do not care), I'm concerned that we only seem to get what is expected every month for content. Maybe if we're lucky, we get a pet or a surprise revamp. Pretty much everything that isn't a holiday (and even then, not all traditional items are created since Rah is gone right now), a monthly collection, and two battle challengers is on the back burner.
I understand why (labour shortages are everywhere) but it doesn't ease my worries much. It's concerning that we don't have a full time programmer. It's concerning how much content gets affected with one artist on leave.
Subetapedia articles are definitely a good example and I think they been gone longer but then the other things that I can think of that haven't seen much life lately.
Yes please more love for Raffles and the whole Lifelike dolls and the Subepedia! I wanna know about the species that haven't gotten love yet!
I personally would like to see NPC lists added for the "Game" and "Other" in NPCs, as well as updating the Quest and Shop lists, I can think of at least one NPC missing from the Holiday list...
