You've all seen this if you had Hustler notifications active; and to be fair, you probably ignored it. But, I think it's time we go and discuss it.
This item sold for 100 CSC when originally released, and while it's really nice - 250 CSC isn't exactly a good deal. Even if it's cycled out at the moment, it's gonna come back eventually - maybe as soon as next Black Friday.
Honestly, it might be time to add a 24-hour timer on the Hustler so that we're not stuck with "deals" like these for days. It's a little underwhelming.
I don't see it as a problem.
The item itself sells in user shops for more than that much CSC is worth in sP. Most things in the CS Hustler queue are like that. It is a good deal. And for those that aren't The Hustler, well, he IS a hustler.
There's no reason to suppose it's going to come back for BF beacuse if it did on the regular the price wouldn't have gotten that high.
Considering Keith hinted that Black Friday sales are detrimental to the site I don’t think we should assume we’ll even be getting one.
(Or just keep the pricing raised slightly so it's not wiping values if that's such a big deal, which clearly, it is.)
But I do agree - the Hustler prices are absurd in a lot of cases.

Also...the 250 CSC is much cheaper than the 100 million it's going for. Also x 2, the last Hustler item I bought (The Black Phatty Lipgloss or w/e) was ALSO 100m in shops. I don't think that's ever come back for BF.
You don’t have to be so nasty and rude about what I said. I didn’t say I agree with his position I simply pointed out what he said so people don’t get their hopes up.
And he DID explain that the Black Friday sale makes people not buy anything all year when cash shop releases happen because they wait for the 50% off sale so from a BUSINESS stand point, no it’s not a good practice. People forget subeta is a BUSINESS.
Do you happen to have a link handy where he specifically mentioned this about Black Friday?
I remember talking about this being the issue with the Monthly Bonus Weekends, but I don't recall him saying they'd potentially be doing away with Black Friday?
In regards to that, I specifically remember him saying that Black Friday is a massive revenue maker and that it typically helps them keep the site going for a few months / half the year or something like that...?
--
This isn't specifically in response to you, but more the idea of getting rid of Black Friday; I always felt like it encouraged people who normally don't spend, TO spend, not the other way around? (People who actively spend, I can't imaging them waiting TILL Black Friday to try to plan for an entire YEAR?)
Same place:
Keith @ 04/17/20 1:12 pm STAFF Jumping in so that Amber doesn't have to answer questions on the bonus weekend! We're crafting the messaging on this, and some of the other changes, but there are a couple of reasons (and I'd like to make sure they're available outside of this post)
Companies rely on revenue to survive (not to sound glib) and that requires having some levers to be able to control that revenue when you're having down times (like, say, a pandemic). One of those levers is being able to have sales, or make people feel like they're getting a good deal while they're feeling financial pressure. We can't really do sales anymore because they're all expected. Everyone knows there will be one weekend a month to buy CSC in to get a bonus, and that in November we'll have a big blowout black friday sale. That means a majority fo our customers just wait until those times to purchase, which makes it impossible for us to plan or know how much our revenue will be and we've got a lot of expenses!
Another is we're taking a look at our prices in general. I think we can lower prices across the board on things like CWs and gold accounts, while trying to pivot most people toward monthly subscriptions by giving more benefits and bonuses to those subscriptions.
I'd much rather do that, so that the price on the page is what we actually expect to sell things at instead of right now where the price on the page during the bonus weekend is what we really plan to sell things at since that is when most users choose to buy from the cash shop. It isn't sustainable for us as a business, unfortunately.
He mentioned both in the same comment. I’m hoping there is still a sale but as he said people waiting for that sale and the bonus weekends isn’t sustainable i don’t want to get my hopes up.
Hurm I'd rather wait for staff confirmation I think, rather than speculate personally. While Black Friday Sales are mentioned, I don't feel like that is specifically saying they're getting rid of them. I do get why Bonus Weekends are gone and think that was a smart choice, I don't think this post confirms anything about Black Friday, it just mentions it as a 'guaranteed' sale time.
Good for you? I stated my opinion. Period. I’m really not in the mood to argue anything with you. I simply said we shouldn’t assume until we know for sure. Funny how you speculate about other things but not this... please don’t ping me again.
I think I know what kind of response I'm going to get but this needs to be said. Nobody is being rude to you. You're the only one flying off the handle and there's no reason for it. Like, I'm reading this thread and your response came out of nowhere.
Now back to the main topic...
I hope Black Friday sales will still be a thing, though I understand why they might not be since people will wait to buy so steady income is a problem (even with the subscriptions).
I don't think 250 csc is unreasonable for an item that is currently worth more than that. I also don't agree that a 24 hour time is reasonable. Maybe 48 or 72 hours but 24 is too short. The deals should definitely expire though because it is frustrating to wait a long time for the items to be bought up before getting a new deal.
I hope BF sales do remain a thing. The monthly bonus weekends were the detriment, not the BF sales.

Back to the topic at hand... I kinda agree with on this one. If the Hustler is offering things at a somewhat discount from what you could get the item at otherwise, and yet it's still more expensive than its official price (which seems a bit shady, but not too shady - just in keeping with the "hustler" theme) then I think his pricing makes sense.
It should probably have a more regular changing time though. Every 24 hours makes sense to me. (48 as Julian mentioned also makes sense, but 72 seems too long, unless you really only want it to change twice a week.)
But then, I've never bought an item from the Hustler and I never plan to, so maybe my opinion isn't worth much. ^_^
you mentioned having Hustler notifications active - is there a way to turn them off, or are you just referring to the Custom CSS workaround?
It's that high because it's not that popular of a wearable. The other colors are also all under 20M - 9M for the cheapest one; purple. They're not exactly super-popular. 100M is a bit of an outlier.
But anyway, people are not buying it. Since I made this thread, one was bought. I kinda don't want to have this "deal" on the Hustler until Morostide starts, so what's wrong with a 24 hour timer on deals?
The thing is that it was such a good deal, it wouldn't have been there for four days. One was bought in the last twelve hours, because it's not that popular, and because a lot of people think that 250 CSC is a little steep for something that sold for 100 a year ago.
We were told that when bonus weekends were discontinued, we'd have more frequent sales. I still haven't seen a single sale, and we're almost six months since discontinuation.
That's worth investigating.
Is the Hustler manually operated or is he automatic?
I'm just wondering if he thinks 250 CSC is reasonable for a 100 mill sP item the same way that Quentin sometimes asks for holiday items that are less than or equal to 50k sP - which means that user pricing can determine their behavior.
Automatic, everything is 250 CSC. The items are manually added, though.
Good deal for things like old DPs that do not have a box, fair for DPs in general (especially for things that will be in the CS six months from now)
I've literally never seen a good deal offered by the Hustler and I almost always just X it out when he crops up with something new. I kinda don't get the point of him anymore. But maybe lots of folks still buy from that?
Also as to the sales thing - there's been...so much going on and so much promised that I think staff is just trying to keep their heads above water. I'd wager we'll have more going on when things are more stable (after we get the necessary changes to subscription models to offer alternates to the CW packages and the CW rules/pricing change is done - probably not going to see alternate sales until after the new year is my guess).
I do think we're going to keep getting BF sales because they're a good boon for the site, especially as we lead into the big holiday month where folks tend to spend less on themselves and more IRL for things. I can't imagine those going away without warning when staff consistently mentions how much that particular sale actually helps the site income vs the monthly csc sale that was a drain otherwise.
