I have a monstera, which I love. I've only had it for a year and it's so easy to keep and grows very manageably in a little trellis. I wonder if I let it grow wild, whether it will climb up my walls like a jungle plant. I have a pothos, which is in a jar of water and hasn't grown very much in the year that I've had it. Only a couple leaves, and I'm wondering if I should transfer it to soil. I've seen some pretty impressive ones in offices. Also an aloe, which is nice to have around for rashes, and a spider plant.
Anyone else? Are there any you've had an eye on and would like to own someday?
I'd definitely recommend that pothos in soil. :'D I have two and oh man have they grown. I have one draped across an entire wall of my kitchen and it's lovely! I think my favorite is my zz plant. Super low maintenance and kind of unique look. I've been thinking of getting another fittonia in pink, but I have a horrible track record keeping them alive for some reason.
Okok I'll take your advice! My pothos will thank you I'm sure.
I've seen ZZ plants around alot but never knew their name. They always look so healthy because of how their leaves are angled. Very cool. I've seen fittonia around too, but only outdoors. Had no idea they were a houseplant too! The pink is so wild and pretty.
I'm not really into plants that only look nice, I'm more into herbs and other edible stuff (I love my bay laurel – looks nice, doesn't need much and is useful). But I have two Sander's dracaenas from IKEA which I keep in water, they look fine and minimalistic, and are also very easy to maintain, I only change the water once a week or so. And I have a fuchsia which I bought at a very low price because apparently shop staff thought there was no hope for this one – not only I managed to save it, but it keeps blooming over and over again.
I have two monsteras in big pots, and they have a tendency to grow down and not up. As long as you water them periodically, I don't think it is possible to have them die on you. Great plants!
I've managed to keep a Schlumbergera russelliana alive, in spite of my black-thumb, for a good many decades.
Luckily the poor thing thrives on neglect.
I have a little garden in my backyard. There's a purple butterfly bush, some ivy hedges, and a tiny pond with lilypads. I even saw a frog on one lilypad yesterday. :>
I used to have spider plants, but they all died off and I could never figure out why. I watered the way I was supposed to, fed them when I was supposed to, they didn't have any diseases I could see. Same with succulents, including this huuuuge aloe plant I used to have. Right now, I just have pothos plants and they seem to be doing pretty well. I also have some baby cactuses I started from seeds, three of them - it was a kit I got for $1 from Jo-Ann Etc. lol, but they grow suuuuper slow.
My garden outside is a whole other monster, lol. When we were stuck at home, I spent a huge amount of time every day tending it, trees, bushes, flowers, veggies, and all. I repainted all of my little bunnies and frogs and things, and the bird bath and bird houses. Built a second bird house. I guess I have stupid rona to thank for that at least, that my garden looks amazeballs right now. XD
I can confirm that they will absolutely grow that way if you let them do so.

Each of those top leaves is bigger than one of my spread hands.
I've noticed that water suspensions are great for cultivating leaves off of cuttings, but they're best placed near a windowsill with a lot of light. I had one in my bathroom and I used to take 3 foot long cuttings off of it every few months.

I've had my monstera for three years now. It has had one offspring, and is about twice the size as when I got it. I'm extremely fond of it, and I'm very careful in taking care of it too. I also take great pride in my jadeplant army, my pilea family and my countless basil plants. I'm at a point where I can supply both friends and family with plantlets if they need it. My current project is my groundcherry plant. I've grown it from a tiny plantlet to being almost as tall as myself, so I'm excited to see if I can keep it alive to see it bear fruit.
I have one lonely majesty palm, or Ravenea rivularis, so uh, it's also my favorite, lol. I also have a random collection of colorful mosses and lichens that I put into a clear class vase, annnnd my terrarium which has 3 (obviously small) plants, Davallia tyermanii, aka White Rabbit's Foot Fern, pilea involucrata aka Moon Valley, annnd syngonium podophyllum, all of which look kinda sad right now. I've had the terrarium for 3 years. I really want more plants, but want to move into a smaller space soon, so less stuff is better right now.
I just have a few small aloe that live in containers of water. I also have a tiny cactus that is covered with white hair. ^_^
Nice! I've heard that fuchsia is notoriously hard to keep alive so super props to you on that. :D
Those are awesome! I've been calling them Christmas cactus and have one too. It seems they like to flower when the weather changes. I've also seen them get huge, like trailing several feet down from a table. Super impressive.
Sounds like you were productive, that is awesome. Hope you take pictures before winter sets in, if you get winters where you live. It sounds like a total lush haven. I've never heard of growing cactus from seeds, sounds interesting. Also, I've killed my spider plants in the past too! I had a huge plant that ended up smelling like rotten eggs... my poor roommate. Looking back, I must have over watered it xD
So so cool how that works! That's very comforting to know it works. I just made cuttings today... hope it works!
Love love love mosses and lichens. They are so mysterious. There are some really cool plant containers that hang on walls like a picture frame and thus don't take much table space. I'm sure there are some really creative forms of that. Good luck with your moving!
I currently have around 45 houseplants and it's hard to pick a favorite. I love carnivorous plants such as nepenthes and pinguicula, but am also a huge fan of succulents and the classics such as ferns, ficus elastica and spider plants. I just love plants and think that they make any room much more cozy right away :)
Mine keep dying because we can never properly care for them where I live, but I've always loved aloe vera so much.
User since 2012, still not sure what I'm doing. [tot=Sample] // [flower=Sample]
Totally keep us posted on how yours grows. Several spaces in my yard have already been taken over by pothos. Pothos rules my life. I even made the r/PothosPorn (edit: it's safe for work) subreddit about a year back if you're interested in sharing your pothos with our community.

I have a sago palm that I'd love to get rid of. It is way too big for our space and I can't put it on the floor downstairs because they are poisonous to pets.
I have several potted plants from various funerals too.
