I’ve been thinking. Actually.... it’s a given but:
I’m really disappointed. There’s no new pets being released (we’re limited on pets. We need more variety), no new colours, nothing being restocked in the crystal shop (it’s usually full by now), no new and exciting events and no plots. There’s really not a lot of new items being released.
My attention is hard to keep and it’s waning. Is it just me or am I being selfish and unjustified?
I’m not looking to start a fight. I just need to vent. I’m also interested in what others have to say. What are your thoughts?
I keep trying to hold out for a Gelly War and maybe even a mini plot or event... But as the days roll by I slowly give up. But I still ... check the directory and the staff posts from time to time, hoping for something exciting!
If I remember correctly, there was a gelly war not too long ago? I do remember Hydragellos being on the news fairly recently.
I think the powers that be have been more focused on making improvements to the site (and there was that whole problem with the server move earlier in the year) rather than fun things for us to do.
Which are good things, of course - this site needs updating in many ways, and we've already seen some good improvements with more promised in the near future.
But I hear you that it's been kind of boring around here. I too would love something new!
Was it last year or the year before that we had that little Halloween plot with the Dungarde? Either way, it's been a while.
That was 2019 with Dungarde. That was fun and I enjoyed it. To me, the site is kind of dead. Don’t get me wrong, I love that improvements are being done. I actually can’t wait to see the new site layout, but it’s like they’re forgetting about the user base time being.
I don’t remember there being a gelly war, unless they did it before morostide 2019?
Sadly I missed the last Gelly War. I don't remember what month last year it was...
Yes, the site isn't really as active as it used to be, with there usually being one news post per day, and sometimes not even that (not counting the Pet Spotlight and Weekend Quests, of course). But from all the news about the changes in payments and subscriptions and also changing how they manage wearable items, it sounds like things might become active again in the future and they'll be able to focus more on plots and events.
This year, though, there is a very good reason for it not to be very active. In fact, I was told that the reason there haven't been many Crystal Shop items since it cleared was because the staff member who is in charge of that has been busy because she's a medical worker. I don't know if they would have still cleared the shop or not if they knew the virus would complicate things, but at least that's a good reason even if it is disappointing.
I've been disappointed with the lack of new pet colours, especially the "season restricted" ones. I mean, we only had one new Steamwork and Graveyard pet last year, and none this year, and while they could easily release a Graveyard pet during Morostide, I don't see the same for Steamwork. But another staff member said they were behind on pets and are planning on making up for it by releasing some of them off-season. And again, the virus might have caused further delays.
Also, the Dungarde plot was in 2018.
The last gelatin war was July 2019, so it was just a year ago. I think they try and put at least 2 years between wars.
I know staff have said there are staff members that are very involved IRL with the pandemic so that could very well be why things are quieter than normal :(
Hopefully things pick up soon, but at least the site is becoming more functional. I’d normally prefer functional over new events even though it does get a bit slow, but maybe we’ll have something new coming soon. Maybe we’ll finally get another peekaboo
As for new pets and new colors, it seems strange to me to release new varieties when many pets are still missing some of their special colors. I think staff has been trying to catch up on that, but we've had the new Blob and Urubu pets in just the last couple of years, so it's not as if we've had no no new ones at all.
We just had Neugarten with about 100 new items, Vesnali in May with over 150 new items, and Bug Catching was just begun with 10 new bugs to collect. Things are still happening. Granted, I'd love to see a new plot too, but summer is usually slow. I assume staff is busy with all the site updates (as mentioned above), and maybe they just need a break from the hectic pace of the main event season (September-March).
[edit] also hinted there will be a new event featuring the NPC Shanti soon!
I understand where you're coming from, though. It does feel a bit dead lately in between announcements. I think summer would be a great time for users to try and host their own events and try to make things interesting. I've have one that I've been trying to finish the planning for (hopefully that will go up in August!).
I'm not disregarding anything, at least. I know there are a lot of updates coming, but the lack of communication is well... not there especially when it was "promised" after the site fiasco.
I would love to see what event you're hosting! c:
Aeanoids don't have Cherry, Silver and Aqua. I'm pretty sure they don't have Vibrant either, but I don't like Vibrant so...
It's not just you. I've been bored for years. It's almost Neopets level; I just come here to do my dailies, and collect any new collection items (plush, food, etc). We used to have an amazing, active, engaging community. It seems like it's all the same old-timers over and over again on the forums.
With the new non-unique pet name changes, it's finally given me a reason to quit. A unique petname was about the only thing left I was proud about. LOL
After 13 years (1 of them a hiatus), I can finally say I've had my fun and it's time to go.
I felt this way for quite a few years. I've been barely active for around 4-5 years and essentially didn't play at all for the last 1-2. All the new changes recently have brought me back and renewed my interest in the site.
The subscription setup is an excellent deal and let me get into CWs in a super easy way, which I've always found intimidating/way too expensive. I made a new pet, after having slots empty for at least a year, and found that spark. With the removal of unique pet names, I've finally been able to fix pet names that have bothered me for years. I feel so inspired to actually work on my pets and actually be here for the first time in years.
The Aenoid is in need of a revamp, they probably want to do that first before they release those colours. I don't know if it has a new artist yet or not since there was a battle challenger based on it but I don't know if the pet-based challengers are drawn by the same artists who draw those specific pets or not.
I heard some users say that the forums aren't as welcoming to newer users for some reason. For example, there are users who avoid the forums because they have social anxiety and don't want to get involved with drama.
As for new plots, since some of the staff are medical workers I think it's safe to say don't expect much plot wise until the pandemic calms down a bit more. Unless more staff are hired to fill the void left behind by the staff that are busy.

The thing is, the Cherry Potion was released in December 2014. That's a long time. The Silver Potion was released a little later in the month :)
A lot of pets needed, and got revamps since then, and I'd still say the Keeto still needs one.
I think things are heading in the right direction, I think Keith has been making a hell of an effort to communicate better lately. The subscription seems like a great deal so far and I'm looking forward to seeing what the future is for that. I only buy CWs every once and a while, so honestly, I don't have much to say about any of that. Non-unique names were long overdue and I'm really excited to finally start putting tributes to my IRL pets, past and present, on here. Any time I've been on lately there's been a lot less lag and errors in general. and , plus anyone else behind the scenes have been working incredibly hard to get the site modernized and finally tackle the lag that's been persistent over the years.
I'm sure staff want to do more plots, release more pet colours, hold more events, fill the crystal shop more, but the priorities are to modernize and optimize the site to make the things they want to do run smoother for us in the long run. I'm for it. If you're not happy with the site at this moment, maybe you should just take a break from it and come back later to see where things are. Now we don't have to worry about losing our pet names if we need to take extended breaks.
Sorry your leaving and thanks for the items in the DC :)
I would like to see some ore things happening on here too as I get a bit bored at times too
Thank you [Kiss=smilesnz] [Dance=smilesnz] [Flower=smilesnz]
I am the one, who continuously shouted "Don't start another event/plot etc., before you have overcome the site problems!!!!"
So I approve, that they work on the programming and finally try to end the still ongoing 40xs, blank pages, lag and other connection problems, item disappearing and what else is hindering game play. I am sick and tired of Subeta constantly devouring my time due to whatever non functionality for 14 years. What good are the events, if you cannot cope with your dailies, much less participate in the event?
They are getting the (yet again) new wardrobe, which for most users is a huge if not the biggest point of interest, under control and are adding new features to it.
Also understandable: They are trying to develop a system, which will financially enable them to continue running Subeta at all.
Also they have talked about several new plans, once everything is ready.
I for one am content, that I can do the normal things, maybe catch up with battles and other years long neglected tasks.
Personally, I'm happy that staff are working out the functionality issues and that they are revamping some of the basic game mechanics is exciting. I think it shows they are really considering the long term future of the site and how to modernize it to both keep things fresh for older players as well as attract new players.
Summers tend to be a little quieter and I kind of like that. The long stretch of holidays Sept-March is fun but also tiring. I like summer, its a good time to focus on building my collections, training pets, and playing at my own pace. Holidays can be hectic and it can feel like there is a lot to do to keep up with some arbitrary goal post or you are gonna miss out. If they had an event this summer, I'm sure it would be fun but I would be fine without one.
