The shoutbox has been down for about 2 days now. When I got online the other day and saw it closed, I was like, "Alright, I guess some drama happened, it'll be back later." But then it wasn't, and it still isn't. I really miss seeing everyone there even if I don't always have something to say, I miss the silliness that would sometimes happen. And everyone else misses it enough to have made a forum thread to talk to each other in for now.
I wouldn't be so bothered about it if we had some more information about what's going on, and if we were warned about it before it closed, maybe in one of those things that appears at the top of the page that mentions that staff are aware of site issues or something. But we haven't heard anything, I've looked at the admin posts page and there's been no mention of why it was closed or when they think it will be open again. Some people are saying it's because of site issues, others are saying there was a user being a troll who possibly had their account hacked, but really, we don't know anything and it would be nice to have an explanation or an update on what's happening.
Sorry, I know everyone's probably tired of me complaining about if and when certain things will happen on this site, but the shoutbox is important to a lot of us, and we really didn't expect it to be gone this long, especially not without warning.
I too woke up one day and it was gone, and am now left wondering about the reason to it. Some are saying there were major functionality issues, others are saying it was because of the spammer, maybe it was both combined. Guess all that's left now is to wait and see.

Have staff acknowledged it at all? Even in one of the other threads? It's just odd for it to be gone this long and radio silence about it on their end. We are just left a bit in the dark haha
That's what's making it a bit frustrating, the fact that they haven't given us any signs of them being aware of it. Well, they probably are, what I mean is what if they closed it and forgot to open it? Even if they were too busy to open it, it would still be nice to let us know that they are going to eventually.
I believe it was a temporary measure to help with the lag at a time when the programmers are trying to work on the bigger causes - it will be back! We're all very busy behind the scenes, and also Thanksgiving for many of us is just something we have to work around as best we can.
Thank you for your patience!
I keep forgetting about most of the staff being from the US and therefore celebrating Thanksgiving which I, a British person, don't celebrate. That might be why we've not had much news recently as well even though the month is nearly at an end. (I always saw Fireside as being based on Bonfire Night, especially since it used to have more items to do with fireworks).
I still think maybe there should have been one of those banners that sometimes appears at the top of the page so everyone could see what was going on, not everyone was online when the reason for the closure was stated, I certainly wasn't. I'm not sure exactly what issues caused it to close either, was it something to do with some custom CSS that didn't work for people using it or something? I was there when auto-refresh was brought back and it was delayed a bit but I didn't see that as something serious.
Disappearance of SB= rude awakening for me
Looking for these : x100
I miss everyone on the shoutbox. Hope everyone is well xx
I wish I could go back in time..
I figured it had to do something with the lag.
As long as it being closed helps with solving the lag, I'm okay with it.
it might have been contributing to the lag. I'm wondering if battling is actually the culprit, because we didn't have any lag, or at least I hadn't noticed it, til the event challengers were added. I also just got home, so haven't been on all day.

Now the shoutbox is back and it doesn't feel real because it's been so long X) Also, it's moving very fast. What did you do to fix it?
Sorry, this might be not liked by saying this, but... If the shoutbox is causing site lag and/or errors... then it should be eliminated entirely. I mean people can use the Forums/Comments/sMails, to talk with others. ( and by using those, no one misses what someone says - cause at times it moves really fast, with a bunch of people posting at the same time.
Also, there are times when stuff said in there, just should not be talked about. Like the other day I came on and seen talk of PG-13++. Like wtf o.O Peace![edit]Wow, this loaded, after eror eror Application error
An error occurred in the application and your page could not be served. If you are the application owner, check your logs for details. You can do this from the Heroku CLI with the command heroku logs --tail
Indeed. I won't miss it now I know what it has been used for. I really miss training alerts.
You found a fairy while making a post! Why? Who the fuck even needs these anymore?
I'm in agreement that the SB isn't exactly worth the hassle if its that intensive on site.
if you release 1000 of the faeries you unlock a hidden site theme
Indeed. They need to be released in a way that will be useful to new users. New users who may not be confident in posting at all.
they used to be random events but i think that'd be too taxing for the site right now, though i'm worried it'll become like the forum box epidemic if people are wanting the site theme, though this is deviating from the post at hand.
i'm pretty sure there are dedicated discords for the SB, so if it were to be removed it could very easily be replaced with a way that people can talk about the sordid things that go on. from what i've experienced of the shoutbox, theres been fetish roleplays to stories that shouldnt be shared on a public space at all, and from what i can remember the shoutbox is open on startup of subeta (though this information may be wrong as i signed up 11 years ago, but it was a default option for me at the time) and may not cast subeta in the best light of a new user were to walk in on the uh ... special chats that some folk have quite unabashedly.
The fairies were floating items previously.
There are defiantly discords. ;) I am okay with everything that makes the site run cleaner. I spend a lot of time here. I do direct most of my play money to the site. I don't want the site to pander to a part of the site that doesn't include everyone is all.
Since this came up in the discussion - if you notice anything that breaks the site rules in the Shoutbox, please make sure to file a ticket so staff can deal with the situation.
