idk about y'all but it seems like the top ad banners have gotten a lot larger lately, and playing primarily from a laptop means that I have to scroll down on every page just to reach the actual content. Could we maybe go back to the skinnier banners? Or maybe side banners if it's a revenue thing? This just really cuts off a good chunk of the site enjoyment for me.
a common issue it seems :( needs to be addressed
see have the ads gotten bigger for anyone else? ;;

I was meh but okay with the increased ad size, but then today those sobs started to FLOAT and stick to the top while scrolling and I was seriously contemplating learning adblock possibilities for iPad. Bleh.
🎃[tot=Betelgeuze]🎃[/center]
being a hybrid computer/mobile user the fact that the ads can now double and float over the vast majority of the navigation bar is just straight up obnoxious.
Many thanks to both you and Sorcerer.
What's up, staff? Are we not buying enough CSC? First the ads got bigger, now you're adding drop-downs and an extra ad in the middle of my vault?
I just opened the site to 4 giant ads that take up half the screen (I'm on my phone), one of which is both animated AND scrolls down the screen with you. glad it's not just me, I was worried about some buggy/more malicious type nonsense getting into my browser.
An update (OFFICIAL, IN THE NEWS AND NOT JUST ON THE FORUMS LIKE OTHER MAJOR SITE CHANGES PLEASE) even just mentioning this being a new thing and yeah, the site is struggling, sorry, but this is the easiest option, etc etc would be VASTLY PREFERRED over TOTAL RADIO SILENCE, PLEASE.

I know FR was having some issues with their ads redirecting offsite a little while ago, so this might be in a similar vein. :/ Feels really odd that nobody on staff is commenting on this, though. I get that the customCSS is a neat workaround, but there are people who don't mind having the ads because it helps the site.
Considering that someone was asking about it in the Help forum back in August, I'm genuinely surprised (& pretty disappointed) that it's been a full 2 months of absolutely no staff replies about this issue.
Did anyone make a topic in problems & bugs? Weird thing to ask, I know, but I sincerely doubt that Subeta would endorse ads that make the site borderline unplayable.
Another mobile user here, same problem with the ads. The one scrolling at the top is the worst. I’ve also been getting full page ads that I have to click out of. I don’t want to have to block ads here, but the top scrolling ad and the popups are too much for me. Subeta staff have never been particularly transparent, that’s one of the most common criticisms of them, but they need to say something about this.
Of course they're not going to comment on this matter. Their answer would simply be, "Buy CSC and GAs to support the site and the big ads will go away". Jokes on them, I ain't any more motivated to donate money to the site if they're gonna resort to scummy behavior like this. They can put on the whole "we're struggling, and making sacrifices to keep the site alive" act; actions speak louder than words, and I've not seen any actions to prove that they're listening to feedback or ways to improve the site to get more people involved. It's always a "coming soon" matter.

ok
Ads have been going a bit apeshit for the past 2 months, especially for mobile users. Any official word on this? Is this the new normal, or is it an issue with whoever's providing ads for Subeta?
Well, that's a direct approach. Guess we'll see what happens. Hopefully they do respond.

I figured it's more efficient than stewing in a bad mood & blaming staff for not responding to an issue they've not been properly made aware of until this topic.
As far as I can see, there is no topic about this in Problems&Bugs. The only previous topic I've seen is in Help (& has been linked twice so far in this topic).
For anyone who can't wait for it to be fixed, posted a free quick&easy staff-approved adblocker to deal with the issue for the time being. 👌 Nobody's forced to buy GAs just to get around this. You can still enjoy an ad-free Morostide!

They make mobile a lot more obnoxious to use, that's for sure! Half the time I'm using the custom dark layout CSS which includes the adblock code, but when I have it turned off to check my post formatting I've noticed those ads get pretty big, especially on a mobile device where you have to scroll twice as much. I'm hoping staff can do something about it because I really don't mind seeing ads here if it supports Subeta, but if they're effecting my use of the site I'll block 'em no question.
I was curious about how it affects mobile, so I tried it myself, and yeah, I see how bad it is.

From my iPhone, using Safari browser, since it's the default on my phone. Does it look like this for everyone else that uses mobile?

pretty much, yeah. theres also banner ads that cover the top navigation bar(and scroll with you), and sometimes two big ads stack ontop, or wombo combo of a big ad and a scroller.
That sounds annoying. I don't use my phone for Subeta, and the size of the ads really won't help on the occasion that I do. We shouldn't have to rely on custom CSS to get by. =/

i use mobile subeta when i'm lazy or just checking or if I don't have computer access(holidays ect), but yeah the navigation blocker ones are super obnoxious. I could kinda live with the big ones but the ones that cover stuff is a big nope from me.
i feel bad using the css but honestly it made mobile subeta unusable and since i'm going to be without computer access for about a month very soon i'd still like to be able to do my quests.
True. Hopefully the issue will be addressed at least. That's all I'm expecting, just a "we know it's a problem and are working on it". Suppose it'd suffice at least.
I suppose the radio silence is the response we're going to get from staff.

From what I've been reading, they're a bit more understaffed than usual due to health&IRL reasons, and unfortunately it's during one of Subeta's most popular holidays to boot (which is an IRL holiday too). That means extra work and stress to make sure that ToT items, challengers & various other bits go out while juggling lag & holiday bug control. While also juggling IRL responsibilities on top of it. WhichIsFunLemmeTellYou. :/
I'm not saying it's great that a legit issue is getting the silent treatment while topics about less pressing things get a smidgen of staff attention, but I do understand why it's happening. I am still a little sad that we didn't even get a "hey, it's being looked into!". Not even on the bug report topic.
tl;dr - I understand why my ping didn't get an immediate response, but I'm willing to give it another couple of days before I re-ping. Odds are, things got lost in the torrent of holiday-related pings and events. It sucks, but it happens.
Fortunately in this situation, a safe and reliable user-made fix is freely available for the time being, and I'm sure there are users willing to help anyone who's having issues getting it to work.
